- We take a look at the Skydio 2 autonomous drone. This drone is amazing and easily follows you without running into obstacles. The Skydio 2 is the best drone for video on the market today for a individual RUclipsrs or people looking to capture video, like myself. I'm riding my electric unicycle in this video with some friends.

It does a really great job, and seems to be very easy to use. Skydio is a great option for people who do not have the time or money to hire a Profesional Drone Pilot, like me. However, if what you want is the best possible footage, then you will still need a Professional Drone Pilot. But, this is a great consumer product that preforms very well, and gives great footage. 🤠👍
I totally agree that drone pilots still get the best footage, and the FPV stuff is just awe inspiring. I hope to link up with some the bay area quad squad folks soon, but I'll definitely be doing a lot with skydio for future videos. Overall I hope this just means more drone content and interest in drones to help ease regulations in the future.

Hah, I text sometimes, but this was mostly controlling the drone. Definitely pay attention to the road!
i never go more than 64gb for drones. this way when the cards fail i do not lose tons of footage and have a huge bill getting a new memory card. i do 128gb for 360 cameras for the same reason.
Yeah, I guess I got lucky on SD cards on some black friday sales, 64GB is probably plenty for most uses.
Listening to the design improvement you want for the Skydio, I think you out to go to work for them, and show them how to design such a drone.

Haha yeah, two of us were lucky enough to get them at the same time and we went on a first test flight together. I actually wanted to get more shots of both skydios in the air, just hard to coordinate that. Next time!

Thanks! You can have the skydio positioned at any angle, but it's very easy to lose it if you're riding too fast. It's an awesome drone.

Thanks, both are awesome toys, and it's amazing how fast technology changes. There's many different electric unicycles out there, and they are super portable and fast ways of getting around. I would think that the odds of that are 1 in a million... Which makes me believe this was a Skydio "event" where they handed out some drones and people act as if they own one. Anyhow. I don't really care.😊 I'm just sitting here waiting for my own to show up... I am in the first batch so let's see how much longer I have to wait... Having said that, the footage looks really good. The framing looks way better than what I have seen in earlier posted Skydio videos. Thanks for posting.

Nice video dude! I love the capabilities of this drone, but I have a question: can it track you closer? most of these shots are so far away.
Yeah, the Skydio following capabilities are really amazing. It can track you a little bit closer, but not super close up like a FPV pilot. I'll try to shoot some more videos with it soon with the closest following mode.

It is sweet! I believe it's true 60fps. I didn't realize the GoPros didn't have true 60fps? I need to research that further.
Want one but cant get one for love nor money. I would sell my Mavic 2 to get one but to be Honest I would prefer to keep my Mavic Zoom, but ive watched all your video's and one in particular where you and a friend go off and the skydio 2 goes in and out of these concrete post that hold some sort of building that alone I know any DJI can't do hence why I want one. great video , Many thanks Ray K. Yeah, nothing really beats the Skydio 2 right now for self tracking. The DJI drones do have a better image quality though I think. Hopefully these become more widely available soon.

can you adjust the altitude? would be nice if it can hover 4ft off the ground as if you are holding a selfie stick but not actually holding a selfie stick
I believe there's some settings for max and min altitude, and you can drag the drone to be very close to the ground - I'm not sure if it will stay there though. We'll have to test this in a future video. Some low-altitude drone shots would be really cool, but that still might be only FPV pilot specialty.
first thanks for the video review! my comments have to do with IQ. ive seen quite a variance in IQ so far with this drone. obviously 1080 looks crappy as expected but 4k has varied as well. not trying to be critical but i have to ask about the IQ on this video. it looks over-sharpened on the people somewhat and the detail in the trees and grass is mushy as mushy can be. was this shot in 1080 then uprezzed to 4k? did you play with the default settings for the image? did you export from your video editor with too much compression? again not trying to be critical but rather trying to get a handle on the Skydio's IQ. p.s. im on a 42.5" Dell 4k display with a Titan X 12gb card.
Great questions. As this was my first video with the Skydio 2, I may have some more work to do in post production. I typically adjust lighting a bit, up saturation, and apply a slight sharpen to the image. I do this on other cameras, so I just brought my same settings over to the Skydio footage. Looking back at it, I probably should've spent some more time with the colors though.
For the skydio settings, it was shot at 4k 60fps HDR. I think for my next video I'll try comparing image quality of HDR vs non-HDR. I'm sure that's doing something to the quality. RUclips also definitely compresses stuff a bit compared to the raw file. Check out MKBHD's compression test.
@@AlienRides i just checked out the compression test video. pretty entertaining for sure. as expected youtube is typically far less quality than the original on my computer. argh!! i sometimes dont feel like i achieve the best IQ with my P4P as i sometimes see on youtube. honestly im not always sure why. as with the Skydio 2 i expect the similar results and variances. i have the Skydio 2 pre-ordered and will probably buy it if im not dead by the time they notify me. overall i think its great but find myself being less that fully sold on its IQ...but i will say the same for my P4P as it leaves me wanting much of the time. thanks for the reply!!
formattester6 sounds good. I do like the IQ, but ive heard that Mavic still wins in that department. Hope you enjoy it when you finally get it, it’s a lot of fun for sure.
@@AlienRides i agree that the Mavic might have a slight edge in IQ. still this makes up for it in obvious ways. i think on a phone or iPad the IQ is not such a big deal. what are your impressions of battery life?
formattester6 I haven’t run a battery out yet, but I’ve only shot with it once so far. I’ll take it out again soon and see, but it feels like about 20 mins of flight time per battery. Seems reasonable to me.
Not everyone wants selfies. What about filming sunrises and sunsets and over water? The controller is not well made and if a joy stick breaks, that's over. So can I fly manual using the beacon and a phone? Is it controllable enough?
I wish people would do something on non-selfies. it isn't everything.
Yeah, that’s a good point. Tbh I think for those kinds of shots the Mavic is currently better, due to the better controller like you said, and image quality. I don’t have my controller yet so I can’t do those kinds of shots, but I’ll try when I get it.

It is legal to fly a drone in most parts of San Francisco actually! The hard part is obeying the law saying that you can't fly over people and vehicles. I've got a few places and times in mind where I can follow that though, and might end up doing some sunrise rides with the drone to follow that.

Thanks, it’s an awesome drone for sure! I swapped batteries here, but it felt like each battery was good for 20 mins or so.
Great video! Was that flight with your phone only? Or was the beacon being used?
It was a mix of both actually. Mostly with the beacon, but when it was following my skateboarder friend for example it was only relying on visual tracking. The beacon is definitely awesome though and I'll probably always use it.

A lot of the footage from the Skydio 2 we keep seeing on RUclips looks pretty choppy. Is that how it looks when you look at it on your phone or computer? Is it just RUclips's compression? Have mine reserved just been getting kind of nervous with the footage I've been seeing. Want to know if its founded or not.
Interesting. I'm going to play with the settings, and perhaps try uploading a 30fps skydio video as well. Have you viewed other 60fps videos on RUclips? Sometimes it can take a lot to process all those frames, and I'm wondering if 30fps is a better format to use. 4k 60 FPS could just be a bit choppy on normal computers/internet potentially.
@@AlienRides Whatever the fps, it shouldn´t be choppy. That choppyness can be the shutterspeed settings is set wrong (don´t have a skydio 2 camera so I don´t know what you can do in settings). 24-30fps are good for "cinematic" stuff. 60fps for "hi-action" in my book. Would love to see what that autonomous flight and what that camera can do...looks awesome from what Ive seen from YT. Thumbs up from Sweden!
Allen, just so you know, it's illegal to fly over moving traffic. It's also illegal to fly over other people without their consent. Just a heads up. We don't need the FAA cracking down on us even harder...

Nope, a friend and myself went out to shoot with them together :) I had hoped to get shots of both skydios, but it was hard to coordinate that, hopefully next time.

Nope, definitely won't as I was flying improperly once and a car hit it 😅
Alien Rides But they claim that it has sensors on every direction and can detect objects and avoid collisions. I thought it might save itself. Maybe need software improvement to let the drone know that always to push itself up or down, left or right of if any object is moving toward it and not to runaway from fast moving incoming objects. 😊

May be i am wrong but you can compare, the most problem skydio, you can find on the wood and grass, and dynamic range is not big from the small sensor

Actually I think you're right! I thought it just lost me there, but it looks like I pass someone and it tracks them momentarily. I suppose it catches back up to me with the GPS tracking from the beacon though. I'm hoping that with some software updates in the future it gets better at these kinds of cases.

why have none of the established drone reviewers like AndyRC and Joshua Bardwell reviews this drone? YT has been full of these videos by reviewers most people have never heard of, hard to believe any of this hype until one of them gets a model to test, wouldn't touch it with a bargepole until then.
That’s fair, I definitely respect the established drone reviewers. I think the reason you’re seeing so many others review it, like myself, is because the AI features are so amazing. It made a lot of people who normally aren’t into drones, buy this drone. It’s actually my first drone I own, and I’ll probably be doing more drone videos and reviews in the future.
Another thing is that these action sports people who are buying this drone will probably praise is, due to it's autonomous following ability. My hunch is that most traditional drone pilots will not like it as much, due to poor manual control and not as great image quality. Just a hunch, but we will see.

@@rogerunderhill4267 still no one I have heard of in the drone world, just saying, happy to be wrong about the product, but am always cautious with new tech and the hype machine.
I just got a scooter that does 30, there are more innovations every day, all of my money is going to be gone, those unicycles seem pretty cool, and i do like the dualtron X, ill stick with mine until i master it. the trick with the scooters is to learn to use your body and not the stem to stop go and steer.

@@AlienRides i do want to see your body armor kit, ive been looking there are a few tactical sites that offer "near riot gear" items that seem like it might work for ppe, the motocross helmet looks like a good option, but your padding is covered

I mostly use motorcycle gear, just because a padded jacket and pants is easy to put on I find. Any Motocross helmet is also probably fine.

Starts at $1k USD, but the accessories like the batteries and beacon can add a bit onto that. Worth it for me for the awesome content I plan on capturing with it.

The drone is registered! After looking at some airspace maps though, there’s really not a lot of places you can fly this thing!
Alien Rides the city of San Francisco legally requires you to fill out a permit request with filming with drones within city limits or for use on RUclips with your monetization set on. Just don’t get popped by anyone from the city vehicles. I do a lot of 107 commercial stuff in the city all the time and am familiar with the permitting process.

Alien Rides most don’t know; it’s a crazy city requirement. I’m just letting you know. Cops don’t worry too much about it, but the city vehicles will certainly make a big deal about it. Fine you, confiscate your drone; it’s actually happened to a colleague of mine who thought he could get by without any permits. He did for a while, but he got popped eventually.

Good video, but what a risky flight and many rules broke, I wonder do you even know skydio will not avoid moving objects, and what can I say about flying over people, you just give drone users a really bad name.
Thanks for the feedback, we'll consider that for future videos. I think this kind of thing is just going to get more and more common with how prevalent the Skydio is going to be.
I think your right, but if a skydio smashes into a car or someone’s face, we might see very few skydios around, I would like to see some nice controlled video with skydio, it just seems so jumpy and continues to lose subject when filiming or at least fails to Centre the subject, looking at it avoiding obstacles is very impressive but skydio when skydio does this the film goes south .
