Lesson 9 off-roading isn’t just about breaking axles and crawling over rocks and obstacles, it’s also about family, history, our beautiful country, and the quality time seeing it. One of my favorite videos. Great family and inspiration to others.
There are THREE things that i ABSOLUTELY LOVE ... These Vids, your Jeeps, and You and Regena Together !!!!! MUCH love to you BOTH From A Tacoma Owner !!!
I love your positive attitude. When I'm grumpy, I watch your videos and I pull out of it. Thanks and Thank You Regena for your words. Very inspirational.
I woke up just angry this morning. Wishing I had done things differently. Mad at the world and myself. This video reminded me to get back out there who knows! Plus I loved the 392 review, the interaction of your personalities are priceless!
@@Matt02341 I think we all have things we wish we could have done differently. But no matter how much we would like to change the past, we can't...all we do is learn from those moments and apply the lessons to forge a better and brighter future. ☺
brad you are always such a positive person. I've watches the channel for several years now and your addition with your wife and kids has made the channel more family friendly. your words of wisdom I hope other jeepers enjoy. keep posting and we hope to see you maybe in colorado.

Regina hit the nail on the head! get out of your comfort zone do something and enjoy my wife and I had started in these videos are very inspiring thanks guys, keep up the great work.
I think that is truly one of the problems in overlanding, we get so gear oriented in the newest and greatest. That isn't necessarily a problem if you enjoy and nerd out on the gear but don't let it hold you back from going on trips and enjoying the gear you already have. Its awesome to see how far you have come and grown and to see your channel go from a few subscribers to over 484,000 is insane!!!! Love it!
That was a good video Brad! The upbeat happy music and Regina with her food segment. I could definitely see you all enjoying each other while doing something you love to do in the great built jeeps. I hope that 392 stays around. Thank you.
Thanks for another great video. Regina advice is so on point. Getting out of your comfort zone and doing something new and fresh. Reason why I started camping (so far just controlled camp grounds) building up my confidence and courage to hit the trails and discover amazing dispersed camping sites. For an introvert person like me, it’s a big leap! Watching fun, great, educational videos like yours has been very helpful. Thank you!
Thank you so much! It can be really, really hard to push yourself to do new things, but it is so worth it when you do. We are always changing, life is always changing around us, and we all have a choice whether to be swept up in the current of change or to choose our own change and paddle in the direction we want to go. I'd much rather be an active participate in this crazy, wonderful thing called life. ☺

I appreciate you talking about positive attitudes. I get caught up in bad ones when I need to do maintenance or if something breaks and doesn't go my way. It's nice to get a reminder every once and a while. Try to stay positive at home and on the trail!
The trail terrain does change as you discussed as does access to different areas. These things I have enjoyed on the local trails where I live. I also consider vista points along the trail for viewing sun rise or sun sets as well as moon rise or moon sets. Some camp sites I will consider if it has dark skies for star gazing. Thanks for another great video.
As always terrific video. Number one is listen to Regina. Slow down and smell the coffee. :-) I agree wholeheartedly on a positive mental outlook, makes a huge difference not only in yourself but those around you. Time goes way too fast. I retired way back in 1996, where does the time go?
Regena! Thank you for that twist on Mac n cheese. I am saving this episode to use that recipe later. Brad, always love the content & thank you for sharing your wisdom & time with your family.
When I bought my Jeep (12-2019) I thought I would keep it stock because I wasn't going off road. Found a couple local Jeep clubs, went off road and was hooked! Lift, 35's, bumpers, winch....love it!
Great video! So enjoyable to watch, and so cool that your wife is with you on these trips now! (and your son when available!) I really enjoy her cooking. We ranch in Oklahoma, however, my wife and I spend the summers in South Fork, Colorado, and are always looking for quick and easy meal to cook while we are on the trails with our Rubicon. IMHO…Your hard work, humbleness and positive attitude are what makes your videos so successful. Thanks!
Thank you! I love being able to get out on the trail with Brad, especially when any of our boys get to join us. I am a huge fan of quick and easy meals. Probably from my days of working full-time and raising three boys with a husband who was often deployed when quick and easy meant saving time and sanity! 😄
Trail Recon video and a cup of strong coffee on a beautiful Sunday morning. Outstanding views on your family adventure and some PMA reminders that we all need. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences with us. I would wager that mac and cheese was delicious. Thick cut bacon FTW!
We have done that trail a couple of times but the opposite direction then you did. The first time we did it there was a person manning the tower and we were lucky enough to be able to go up and have a tour of it and check out the amazing view. Great trail close to home for us. Once again another great video.
I enjoy running trails in the opposite direction, ads a different twist to them. Maybe when we go next time we'll do that and fingers crossed we'll be lucky like you and the tower will be open!
Great video, love how you went back to how things started for you exploring and the lessons learned alone the way. This was a refreshing video away from "look at this new gear" , love my gear stuff ,but we have lost some perspective of when things where simple and why we wanted to do this in the first place, thxs Brad for returning our focus.
Love the new videos with Regina!!! Trail Recon is one of my favorite RUclips channels. But as a woman it’s nice having a woman’s perspective on overlanding! Keep making awesome videos!
I made that mac and cheese for my family for dinner at home. I'm not really a mac and cheese kind of guy but....WOWZA! Bacon is a game changer. Why didn't I think of that before? I put mine on a bed of baby spinach and added some fresh cracked pepper and a dash of hot red pepper flake. YUMMY! Thanks Regena!
Great vid like ever, I've enjoyed your the memories and the growin learning experience but now talking about the meal: have open my heart when saw the "De Cecco", it's one of top 5 italian pasta, perfect cooking, served like a pro chef, delicious and if you put Parmigiano over like are snowing can call italian citizen!!! 🤩
It is always interesting to revisit a trail and not only see how it has changed but also how your initial perspective of it changed as well. We have a couple of trails that we want to redo because they were fun and also doing them in a different season will change their scenery. Jordan... Pay attention to Mom. It is a shelf road... 2 hands on the wheel, eyes on the road... yeah, all the mom safety things. LOL Until next time... Travel safe.
Agree, trails change over time, so you never know what you might get. It's also fun sometimes to just go do a trail in the opposite direction, can be a completely different experience.
Take the wife up top of the world trail. My wife had her doubts. I went to EJS 5 days before her to “get it out of my system” lol. She flew out and that was the last trail I had to check off. Couldn’t go to Moab without going up there again. Pretty sure I passed brad in the red Jeep on 128 on our way back to town matter of fact. Then spent a day checking out the parks with her and took a trip monument valley and the 4 corners. Also checked out valley of the gods. I can say for sure she gets it now. On the ride home she was asking when and where we’re going jeeping next lol.
@@TrailRecon It’s just a gravel road loop with some pretty scenery and camp spots. I wouldn’t make a special trip just to see it but if driving by it would be a awesome place to camp for a night. Do wish the sites were a bit off the road path for privacy. More of like a campground experience with much better scenery.
Built a ton of guzzlers, for chuckers, (and whatever else needs a drink) out in the west desert, past Delta Utah with my ole man and his group when i was young. Was always awesome to go back out, and see some one had destroyed them, for fun. So, we set them all back up, shake our heads, and move on.
I think it’s cool that you still have your first Jeep after all the ones you’ve been through. I wish I still (or could get back) the first Jeep (1997) I bought in 1996 when stationed in Miramar, Ca. I still remember the dealership, Rancho Jeep.
I think back on my youth in the late 60s and 70s, my dad bought a used F150 and built a homemade camper. We hiked and camped all over the coast range primarily but a bit in the Sierras, even took it to Michigan one summer. No lift, no big tires, heck no offroad tires. We weren't in the middle of nowhere but sometimes we went hours between seeing other cars. Comparing what we had to todays equipment I am lucky to be alive. But we also were careful and did not push what we did have.
I love the vibes in your videos. Great filming, narration and experiences. Great tip about being optimistic. I have been raised spending time in the outdoors and being positive, it amazing what you will learn, how much more empowered you become and the stories you will tell. Thanks for sharing.
Palomar Divide is my next day outing. Looks like you all did this on Friday when the wind was up. I went solo out to Blair Valley and then up to the S22 and dropped into Grapevine Canyon, Yaqui Wells Rd, then up to Anza Borrego so I could get a patch of the state park. Never even aired down. Be careful out there. The rattlers are starting to come out of their dens. I just about stepped on one as I was checking out a view. Little bugger was just sitting there warming up in the sun. BTW, to dispersed camp in Cleveland NF, you have to call the ranger district office and get a free overnight permit. They will email it to you...each peasy. You could also stop at the office to get one. No open fires, unfortunately.
Awesome content, like how you are sharing locations and trail scores. Your engagement over the years as a family that Jeeps together is inspiring. Thank you.
Great video to recap the last 7 years ! It’s great to see you’re able to have the whole family out exploring with you. Such great memories! I remember the earlier years with your stock JK.
Hi, I just joined but have been following your you tube channel a while. Keep up the great work you do for us. Your information is awesome. Thanks again and always looking forward for your next video.
2015….I haven’t been here from the start but almost! There have been times where I did not like what you were doing with the channel and then there were times, like today, that keep me subscribed! In the end, you do you and it’s working! Thanks for taking us along on the incredible journey from the beginning. Stay safe and CHEERS!!
Love it man. Beautiful Jeeps...I've got a 392 as well, but that JK 😍 Love Regena's confidence on camera! You can really tell you guys are just out there having fun!
Brad please tell me that you got to drive the Wrangler Overlook Concept and did a video on it for some reason that concept is by far the one that I want to become reality the most.
I did a short segment on the Overlook Concept when I was at SEMA last year, its a great vehicle. This year our schedule was thrown off a bit and we didn't get to drive all the concepts.
Nice to see you revisit and reflect on that trail. Glad to see Regina more involved in the channel aswell. Maybe a good question for your next Q/A.. are you still planning on visiting all 50 states? Also when's the Cherokee video introduction/walk around coming? Keep up the good work!
Thank you! Yes, all 50 states are on the table, it's just going to take us a bit, but we'll be venturing out of state shortly. I just got the Cherokee back up and running... finally! A few more details and I'll get it out and shoot a video.
Gotta say Brad I am very jealous of the trails you have, especially for being in California. Its unfortunate that not all areas have such great access to off road enjoyment.
Great video; especially since I have family living in the Ramona, CA area. But... I noticed that Regina was driving Your Jeep. There are still a brave few who are driving 2-door Jeeps ... as is Regina.
Can Regena share her recipe for the Bacon Mac & Cheese? Brad & Family -- love the optimism and cheerfulness of this channel. Jeeps and Gear are great, but the perspective on just getting out there and enjoying things is what I like best about your channel. Come for the Jeeps, stay for the message.
I can share it over in the community tab...just give me a day or two so I can make sure I've written it down correctly...it's one of those dishes that I've made so often that I don't actually go by the original recipe anymore. If you noticed in the video, I was measuring the cheese by hand! 😂
We recently went to Merus Adventure park and that was what I would consider my first actual legit off roading adventure. Everything before that just seems like dirt roads and beach sand. Merus definitely gave me a confidence boost. I love GAIA. It is basically all I use. It has everything I need so far. Attitude is the one thing that you have total and complete control over. No matter what happens, you can control how you react to it. Keeping a positive attitude can be challenging at times, but in the long run it will serve you so much better than the alternative. Bacon is never just a "Small Part"...lol...no matter how much you use, it always has a huge impact. I love that you used broth to boil the pasta. I am one of the few people I know that does this but it is a game changer over plain water. Also when making rice!
Haha..your wife enjoys HER TOY the 392 driveing off road looks like..good video with the family though & many more stay safe all of you till the next time
I love your videos because they're not all about extreme rock crawling. Yeah, that JK and your new 392 on 37s could do some awesome stuff if they wanted, but the trails you go on could be done by a stock jeep. Keep it up!
Hey I think the spring was a underground spring and the tub is just to collect the water during the spring time Aminal wouldn’t hesitate to drink it. Thanks for the content.
I think I can safely say that the 392 hast the best stock exhaust note of any Jeep. I love the scenery it’s so different from here in Ontario Canada. I’d love to bring my gladiator here. You may have made a video on this in the past and I’m relatively new to the channel, but what do you look for in a suitable camping spot?
You should plan a trip, the Gladiator is a great overland/road trip truck! I'm not picky about camping spots, generally I just want something flat, can accommodate at least 2 vehicle and some protection from the elements. Time distance on my trips usually dictates what camping spots I select.
Great video! Going to steal your wife's recipe. I've been wheeling nearly 10 years now and too have learned a lot. Out of everything you've learned, is there anything you regret? A trail never taken, honest rookie mistake, etc...? Stay safe
I think my biggest regret is not starting sooner! We rode dirt bikes and atv's for years, but it wasn't the same experience as we are now having today. Lot's of trails on my bucket list, so I'm still working on that! Thanks!
Another fun trail rating vid! We've been on this trail a few times now. It's one that just jumps to the top of the list when we don't want to do a lot of pre-planning and just wanna go get off road. Man... I love the sound of the Magna Flow exhaust and that 392. Wonder if I can get that sound out of my 2.0L LOL

Hi, I just joined but have been following your you tube channel a while. Keep up the great work you do for us. Your information is awesome. Thanks again and always looking forward for your next video.
Thank you for the support, it's greatly appreciated!
From 2015 to today the quality of video has improved immensely.
Thank you for being a long time follower and I hope you continue to enjoy the content moving forward.
Love it man. Beautiful Jeeps...I've got a 392 as well, but that JK 😍 Love Regena's confidence on camera! You can really tell you guys are just out there having fun!
Thank you!
Another beautiful family Jeep video. Love to see this !
Thank you!
Thanks for this Brad, My son is 10 months and I want to take him camping asap. This is inspiring as always.
I agree, I have been waiting a couple years to see that Alaska trip!! Love the content Brad
Love Reginas advice and that Macncheese oh my god . I’m drooling here lol great vid !
I love your videos Brad, it's nice seeing you and your family bonding doing things together.
Thank you!
Love the music on this one. And much thanks for the positive vibes!
Glad you enjoy it!
Great video! The interaction from 10:40 to 11:29 is priceless! I watched that segment three times already!
Thank you! You should see the two of them banter back and forth at home, always a good laugh!
First! I appreciate this video man, we all know you’re well experienced and your advice is valuable greatly!
Thank you, I really appreciate that!
Hugs 🤗 you can do it. I know you can 🤠 nice relaxing video thank you 👍
So many ads now. Hard to enjoy your content with so many stops. At least you are still enjoying the journey.
Great great video and the food... But its so nice to see the Jk along the 392...
Great video as always. Great pair of Wranglers. Great Peeps! Love you guys!!!
…”Don’t wait till you have all the gear. Just go.” You mean I don’t have to get a 392 first??? 😂🤣😂
Thank you!
LOL! 392 not required, but you're have fun some extra if you do grab the keys to one!
Just FYI, even if you can't drive up to the look out you can always walk up. Many hikers do. it is a fairly short walk up from the road.
Great area.
So great you finally made it back there. Digging the exhaust tone!
The exhaust not just brings a smile to my face every time!
Oooh watch out Marco, you have a bit of competition in the camping kitchen :)
We’ll just ordered a 392 in silver two weeks ago, I couldn’t pass up 7% below invoice. If you had the diesel but love the 392 I guess I will too.
You're going to love the 392!
That Magnaflow on the 392 sounds epic. I just dropped off my 5.7 GC Trailhawk at the shop to get a Corsa installed… can’t wait to get it back.
California wilderness, really nice. Great video!
It is and so much to see! Thank you!
Thank you so much for your comment! I can't wait to get back out to Merus, a great place to wheel.
Thanks Brad.
Very welcome
I love Palomar Mountain! Of course I have only done the high performance asphalt method, hopefully the off-road method soon.
Keep it up!
Can you post the Mac and Cheese recipe? Looks amazing!
I think Regena has plans to have it posted up on our blog in the comings weeks: trailrecon.com/blog.asp
Hey I think the spring was a underground spring and the tub is just to collect the water during the spring time Aminal wouldn’t hesitate to drink it. Thanks for the content.
You might be right and I'm sure the local wildlife appreciate that large cistern of water.
Good video with the tips and memories; see ya next time 👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎😎😎
Glad you enjoyed it!
Stay safe
Feel free to steal it and make it your own. It's a very flexible recipe!
Another GREAT video ! And that pasta looked pretty tasty !
Little off topic from the video but the 392 has got to be on of the best off road rigs out there.
