  • We are gonna give up a secret, an alpine loop in Colorado that we can almost guarantee you've never heard of and climb a hill that equals the steepness of the recovery we did with Matt's Off Road Recovery in Utah. This isn't the alpine loop near Silverton and Ouray that 99% of every off roader knows about. We will also bring you along onto Mount Antero as we hunt for a great camping spot and then onto one of Colorado's Deadliest Trails in Grizzly Lake.

We haven’t been on Mount Antero in over 20 years. I hope while you were in Saint Elmo you did take time to feed the chipmunks. Bonanza that’s another place that feels like home. The last time we were in Bonanza and went over the old toll road my wife said never again. Something about the wheels on the suburban hanging over the edge and our grandchildren we’re inside. Next time you’re in Pueblo go to a restaurant called the Mill Stop you won’t regret it. Lord I miss all those places now that I live in Cheyenne. Thank you sir I love seeing home

I love camping on grizzly. The gate keeper keeps the traffic to a minimum. I see more hikers than I do vehicles usually.
My favorite spot to camp is that little spot right there in the trees just before that creek crossing love it.
Really enjoying the series, I’ve been on every trail in you’re series so far.

With no bypass of that first obstacle it will keep those best not going there away. Pity about the mechanical issues as it makes you extra cautious or not keep going onwards in case you end up totally broke down. Views up top are one of my favourite things whether it's a peak, ridge wide flat expanse. Seeing a big panorama always makes me go wow. When it's good weather & at sunrise or sunset that's the most magic time of all for me. Thanks for your clips showing us places some like me off in Australia may never see in person.

St Elmo is the beginning and end of another alpine loop out there that doesn’t get as much attention, Hancock Pass, Alpine Tunnel Road, Cumberland Pass to Tincup and Tincup Pass back to St Elmo. If you want more challenge than Cumberland, you do Napoleon Pass into Tincup. Nothing too dangerous, just a great day of scenery and wheeling.

The 1 time I went to Colorado, I felt that quite a few roads there were Sketchy as you say,up to and including their paved roads up in the mountains, super Narrow, No Guard Rails, and very steep and deep cliffs, along with having to pull off to the edge close to the cliff to let cars coming down the Mountain pass pass you, they actually had pull outs next to a very steep drop to park so cars could get down and pass you!, Craziest Think I've ever experienced while on a mountain road!

Thanks Bleepin Jeep, I drove Grizzly lake back in 1984, it was great back then. The gate keeper in your video was not like that then. I did it in a stock 1980 Toyota 4X4 pick up. I loved driving that road. Go to upper lake Pomeroy and you can hike over to the ridge and look down on. Grizzly lake. Thanks for the series. Also where you were talking about the rock sticking out on the trail, there was a vehicle frame at the bottom of that cliff when I did the road..

Love that area! That's one of my main stomping grounds (literally) in Colorado. I love it more every year--last year I did 4 days of ~20 mile hikes out and around Salida and Buena Vista, and of course, got some great green chili at the Patio Pancake Place right there on Hwy 50. Also drove up to St Elmo, and started up one of the trails in my Murano! Very quickly decided to nope right out of that, and was able to back out of the way for a group coming down while turning around. btw that stuff up over Leadville, I think you might have found the area where I hiked (with a group) when I was a kid (maybe I'll have to head back next year, = ~40 years later) Pretty outstanding places!
