I love that they're putting more emphasis on how the demigods feel neglected by their parents since that's going to have huge payoff later on in the story. Using Medusa's back story to connect to that as well as to strengthen Percy's inner conflict about his dad was a brilliant move. Also the kids did a good job tackling the character work in this episode, getting emotionally meaty material this early on in the season can't have been easy but I thought they pulled it off well. The chemistry among the three of them is wonderful, plus Walker and Leah are really selling the future Percabeth vibe every time they interact 😂
Great reaction ❤️ I’m really enjoying the chemistry of the three main leads, and how this episode set up how each can contribute to the success of this mission! JPK was absolutely amazing as Medusa! Love how threatening and heartbreaking she portrayed Medusa while low key shading the gods lol Can’t wait for the rest of the season!!!
I totally agree with loving the fact their ages are accurate. I’m just kinda worried after seeing current interviews of the trio because they’re hitting puberty HARD asf 😭
Medusa’s story can also be seen as she was SAd by Poseidon and Athena protected her by making it so anyone who looks into her eyes will be turned to stone.
i absolutely love what they did with medusa and her backstory, it reflects how patriarchally her persona was characterized in some of the original myths. if youd like, it might be fun to read up on the mythology behind her character. as a classics major, i always saw her as a victim who acted out later on.... glad they took this path in the show!
In the original mythology Medusa was so devoted to Athena she took a vow of chastity. And Poisedan to get at Athena forced himself on Medusa on Athena's holy temple. Athena cursed Medusa for breaking her chastity vow and because she was jealous of her beauty.
Actually, the rape version was only Roman version. In the Greek version, she was supposedly born that way, before having sexual relations(consensually) with Poseidon. But I like this sort of combination, despite the fact that it sort of erases her reasoning for being a true villain. But this makes her more, personified I suppose.
Loved your reaction to this episode. This episode is definitely my favorite so far, but i think its because the pacing is a bit better than the first two episodes, which had to throw together literally 1/3 of the book, while these next episodes will hopefully go nice and slow with the last two thirds of the book. Looovee how much you appreciate these characters, Annabeth being strong, Percy being (unexpectedly, to most) smart, Grover holding the group together. And your love of future percabeth is soo funny.
Also you gave the perfect description about the Greek gods being far from perfect (probably why I like Greek mythology) and with there are always two sides to the story like with Medusa
What a fun, awesome reaction! It's so great when someone not only knows the actual story but is willing to go with how it is being presented, thank you!!!
It's interesting that Annabeth believes her mother is just and good. If you read any Greek myth, gods are selfish, petty, destroying mortals lives for their own amusement, or pride. Athena just as much as others.
With Annabeth she doesn't have a good relationship with her dad, and in the book at least her mother watched over her and guided her to Luke and Thalia when she ran away when she was 7. Plus the cap was a gift from Athena. I guess she's really the only parent who Annabeth believes at least cares about her.
Kids often idolize their parents while they're young, especially one that's not easily accessible. Not to mention since Annabeth was often told she was like her mother, I'm sure she wanted to believe that was a good thing haha
Medusa and Poseidon have history in another show (the actors), but I don't know if you know who is playing Poseidon so I'll wait to get your permission to tell ya' the tidbit. Really enjoying your reactions to PJ. I haven't read the books or seen the movies, but love mythologies.
I can't recall from the books but is Annabeth dyslexic? Many Greek demigods are, which would explain her indecisiveness with the candy at the gas station. She's struggling to read the labels.
@@jeanmichaelmeme As of recent interviews with Rick Riordan, its not yet been greenlit but Rick and the writing crew have done as much as they can to prep without a greenlight. Current hopes are Disney is waiting until the time around the finale to greenlight season 2.
@@jeanmichaelmeme yeah thats my biggest worry! Having watched some recent interviews, Walker (percys actor) is getting hit by puberty like a bus! His voice is dropping and hes getting broader already and its like omg he was just so little?? wtf happened!! Hopefully they all age gracefully enough that it wont be such a massive deal if they end up being 18 or so for The Last Olympian instead of the 16 theyre supposed to be

My mind briefly forgetting chips mean crisps in the US and wondering why Annabeth wasn't getting fries at a take away XD
The best reactions by far. I am really enjoying this show.
Thanks so much 💕
“Are we going to see some Gods now”? Did you see the name on the box the delivery guy was carrying?

i like grover a lot more in this ep than the first two, i love the middle child energy 😭
Yes, Grover got to shine in this episode. He really was in the background initially

Thanks so much 💕 This episode ranked highest for me so far as well! I'm hoping it'll keep getting better and better!
Loved this episode. they did Medusa very well! Each episode just continues to show that they picked the right actors for the three main leads.
Agreed!
16:43-16:44 i would say that same thing. I ship Percy x Annabeth so much. I cant wait for the next episodes & future seasons.
Lin as Hermes is interesting casting

New Jersey is literally called the garden state lol
Right? Like these kids need to go outside more 🤣🤣😭
Im guessing you probly found it yourself but Percy actor is Walker😊

In the books she is. She couldn't read the Garden Emphorium's sign either.
I loved Medusa in this episode
She was awesome! I'm a bit sad she has such a short run
