Well, in regards to this one, I knew it was gonna be great and more emotional when Hamish came out and you got excited by ‘you are not broken’. I’ll be enjoying whatever you enjoy reacting to in the future.
I love this series so much already. It's a lot closer to the books than the movies and the new stuff they added enhances the episodes rather than hinder them. And that goodbye scene was so heartbreaking. I can't imagine what it took for Sally to put so much trust in Grover. I can't wait for more.

I almost teared up when Sally told Percy, "You are not broken". That's _such_ a positive message for kids, especially young kids, with ADHD, and it's something I would have loved to see when I was a kid.
Fr as someone who has adhd my whole life I was that I'm annoying or weird or strange. I also really like how people tell adhd people just pay attention it's not that hard. Yea sure maybe try spending a day in my shoes Jan. Anyway I'm ranting point being this definitely made me tear up because it made me so happy.

I love the way they did Sally in this SO MUCH. Fantastic actress, fantastic writing. Can't remember if this was the same as the books, but I love how she doesn't take shit from Gabe.
Yeah I can't remember if she's exactly like rhe books but I ADORED the way they did her character, like I can UNDERSTAND why a God fell for her!!!
In the books she did everything gabe said and he only let her go because she promised him to make some special dip that he apparently loves. Also, gabe was a lot more abusive and sally only stood up to him if it was about percy. Then she turned him to stone.
@@Grey-the-gey however we don't find out about Gabe's abuse until the end of the book and a victom standing up to their abuser doesn't mean they're not abused, abuse takes many forms and the fact that he answers her phone without consent and she has to even ask for permision to take her son out is already a sign of abuse

I did not mean to say that he's not abusive just because she doesn't take as much shit from him in the first scene they have together. I absolutely agree that he's still an abusive piece of shit

As a serious fan, I can say that this series has nailed the books perfectly!
One huge difference between the movies and the show is the age of the characters, the movies had them looking like college students which kinda took a lot away from the books charm, the show did wonders to fix that and accurately portray Percy as his age

Maybe you don't remember from the books, but blue food was an inside joke between Percy and his mom. That's the reason for the blue candies.
22:28 I first read the books as a kid then re-read them within these last few years, and have also started the sequel series ‘Heroes of Olympus’.
As a big fan of the books I think the show has done an amazing job so far! Just because of the nature of the television medium some scenes have been trimmed out, yet the story still feels very very accurate to the books. And the characters / tone feel pretty much perfect! I think it’s easy to see how closely involved Rick Riordan (the writer of the books) is with this series.
I’m so happy that kids in the current year are getting to experience this series for the first time ☺️

I didn't notice till watching your reaction but the sandwich shop Sally talks about going to is call di angelos, as in nico di Angelo. It has to be an Easter egg since we won't be seeing him for awhile
that was a straight reference to the later characters Nico and Bianca, they even tease the black Pegasus Blackjack, the card game Percy and Grover are playing at the beginning is the Mythos card game Nico plays, they reference Kane from the Kane Chronicles, Riordan even makes an appearance in this episode as the second teacher opposite Mr. Brunner during the expulsion scene.
@@star_stark99 where was the Kane chronicles reference? I thought I was paying pretty good attention to the show and I don't remember there being any reference to the Kane siblings or to that side of the mythology
@@Vinylmelody1517 It might be latter in the series, I can't remember the episode, but someone asked Percy if he wanted to go see Dr. Kane. I may have been mistaken, but I do believe there was a reference to the Kane chronicles. I am also going off a page that stated all the references made in the show so it could have been a simple mistake no sure though.

I don’t know why, but I wasn’t expecting anyone to do Percy Jackson reactions, so I was so excited to see you were! And yes, as a hardcore fan for years, the fandom did finally get what we deserved!! The show is clearly much more accurate, and even the changes they did make were done with love and respect, and they might even expand in places the books didn’t. To say the fandom is screaming is an understatement 😅
(There was a musical that was pretty accurate and awesome, but it is amazing to be getting the live action tv series now)
I read the books for the first time when I was nine or ten (fourth grade, about a decade ago), so as a die-hard fan I can definitely say that this show is exactly what these books deserve in terms of adaptation, I love all the things they added and I have a little freak out every time something comes right off the pages like it was meant to. I can't wait to see the rest of the episodes!!!
I feel like they should have made gabe a bit more mean as 1 the line from the worker person feels off and 2 gabes ending (that I know of in the book) doesn't feel as fulfilling for this characterization of him , if anything it's kind of mean which it's not supposed to feel like that

I wonder if they’ll reveal the worse parts of him in flashbacks, since I recall them saying we’ll be getting flashbacks of Sally with Poseidon and maybe Gabe, and right now everything is from Percy’s perspective so we don’t know what’s going on behind closed doors
If not then I hope they change the ending to sally just dumping him since rn he definitely doesn’t deserve being turned to stone

Omg I really want to watch your reaction, but even though I’ve already read the books I’m trying my best to stay away from spoilers because I’m waiting until I’m with my mom so we can watch it together. She was the one who suggested the series so I want both of us to have the experience of watching it together. But I’m really hopeful for the show and once I finish the two episodes with her I’m definitely coming right back to this reaction!

22:08 5 books in the PJO series, then 5 Heroes of Olympus, 5 more Trials of Apollo, one of a trilogy of Percy doing college prep quests is out, and I think a one-off focused on Nico and Will. Also, two other trilogies set in the same world, but focused on Egyptian (The Kane Chronicles) and Norse (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard) mythology respectively.

Omg, I finished watching the two of the episodes with my mom yesterday and it was amazing! We had a fun discussion about Percy’s pen bc she forgot it was a ballpoint pen in the books lol. Also the transition of Mrs. Dodds wings was awesome, we both loved it! Him pushing Nancy was weird to me, like he didn’t seem like he did anything with the water like in the book. It’s just a weird choice, but I digress. Anyway, I’m going to hold off my thoughts until the next reaction of episode 2 is posted but so far I’m really enjoying the show and can’t wait for more!

Cool thing to know is that Logan Lerman, original live action Percy Jackson for the movies, has actually been quoted as supporting the new cast and saying: "You're making a lot of people happy bringing these characters to life!" and I just think that sort of thing is always great to see.
One thing I will always love about the Percy Jackson books(and now this live action) is the fact that it goes against the usual "Oh, you should fantasize about being this special and having awesome powers!" and instead start with the main character saying "No, you don't want this life." lol

Hi, resident PJO fanatic. The two big things I was looking forward to this year were the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie and this show. And I have to say, this show so far is one of the greatest things I’ve seen. I’m so happy we got a proper adaptation. I also love the quote from Sally (Percy’s mom). “Not everyone who looks like a hero is a hero, and not everyone that looks like a monster is a monster.”
Im so excited to see more. Me and my best friend are obsessed with mythology and we owe it all to Rick Riordan and his amazing book series. We’re watching the episodes together as they air each week, but I’m so excited.
I’m so glad you’re watching this, the books mean so much to me and so far we have a neat perfect adaptation. Certain things have been cut in the first two episodes but that’s probably for time constraints and maybe budget since during production, the special effects team (Industrial Light and Magic) were stretched across all of Disney’s major franchises to work on things like Loki and Ahsoka. And from the first two episodes and the trailers, the CGI is really good.
Tl;dr: This show means so much to us book fans and I’m just so happy Riordan had a role in creating it since he’s the author of the books.

Highly recommend picking the books back up. There's so much there. The first series Percy Jackson & The Olympians, Heroes Of Olympus, Trials Of Apollo. Then there's the Kane Chronicles, which deals with Egyptian gods. Then Magnus Chase & The Gods Of Asgard, which is being adapted into a film over at Netflix btw. Then there's Rick Riordan Presents, which is an imprint series where other authors write series about different gods. There are like 10 different book series that are a part of that and tons more on the way.

I love PJO, yes the first season will be the lightning thief. A lot of recent live action TV shows that use CGI a lot have been shot dark, it's harder to see mistakes in CGI if it's in the dark.
As someone who didn't get into the books until a few months ago I totally understand where you're coming from. I think a lot of the reason I like percy jackson now is because I know I would've loved it as a kid, and seeing that kind of adhd representation might've really helped me work out my own issues. I'm no long time fan but this first episode did make me tear up a bit.

I adore this series and its sequels and spinoffs. I got the Lightning Thief as a birthday present from family friends when I turned 15. I devoured it, bought the sequels that were out at the time and I was even inspired to buy a book about the actual myths that inspired the story. I can say I’ve loved camp half blood for almost half my life now.

Rick Riordan is my absolute favorite author and I've read almost all of the books in the percy Jackson extended universe.
I don't even know anything about lighting and shooting angles, but the lighting in this episode blew me away from the beginning. It's so cinematic and it's clear that they're using backlit scenes a lot, and it's just gorgeous. I hadn't previously associated the amount of light with Percy's mood, but it's really interesting!

The part where percy pushes Nancy and they talk to the principal wasn't on the book, originally they just expelled him bc of bad grades I think
The author made dislexia and ADHD as heroic traits bc his son has those
Percy being able to see magical creatures since young also wasn't on the books, but I think it's a nice touch
I think that they cold've done the scene at the hill a bit better, if they run they could've totally get to camp and his mom could've ran away. Like the message she gave to him was nice and the acting was cool, but I felt like there was no sense of urgency bc of how long the minotaur took
percy pushing nancy into the fountain is actually in the book, but yeah he's actually EXPELLED bc his grades got really bad plus he insulted a teacher (which was the last straw)

I'm a long-term, hardcore fan of these books. They changed my life. So to answer your question: I'm in love with this adaptation. The actors are phenomenal. The script and special effects are mind blowing. Even when they change things to fit this new medium, the soul of Percy Jackson shines through above everything else. It's truly inspired. I'm sure that's because Rick Riordan, the author, was a co-writer for the script. This is glorious. I'm so excited.
I read all the books. They were my childhood obsession . And this is perfect so glad the author is deeply involved he picked the perfect cast.😭 I can't wait to meet future characters and gods. Also the book this season is following has a musical its worth a listen.

All the night scenes in this series were filmed on the special sound stages up in Canada used to film The Mandalorian. They're used very well here.
Walker Scobell (Percy) is a younger clone of Ryan Reynolds. You cannot convince me otherwise, considering their chemistry from "The Adam Project."
Plus, he's seen Deadpool 2 almost more than he's been outside. He said that, and he can quote the movie from heart. XD

I saw the movie first and thought it was good enough to read the books, and never looked back. I've read nearly all the books now.
9:24 9:28: Yeah, that’s another reason why I don’t like the movies, they didn’t follow the book. Like Percy, Grover and Annabeth were all like 15 or 16. When he got to Camp Half-Blood, Chiron straight up told him he was Poseidon’s son. They made it all the way to Half-Blood Hill before the Minotaur found them, with Percy even trying to pull Sally in. Also he acted like he had a crush on Annabeth when he was watching her train, none of that actually happened in the book. So I’m super glad that Disney actually worked with Rick on this.

They don’t have golden drachma for Iris messaging and cell phones in the books, sent up a homing signal to monsters to hunt them down quicker. So that’s not advised.
There is 5 Percy Jackson books, 5 Heroes of Olympus books. Then there’s a series about Hermes being an outcast and mortal, which I haven’t read yet.

I was so excited to see this video pop up on my RUclips feed! I’ve read the books multiple times, as well as the related series, and needless to say this show is definitely living up to expectations! Definitely excited to see how the rest of the season goes
ALSO: the author Rick Riordan makes a cameo appearance in the scene with Percy and Grover in the Headmaster’s office! He was the person on the left side of the headmaster when the camera is pointed at him.

I've been listening to audiobooks of the series as of late, as I hadn't read the full original series since I was a kid, and yeah I'm so happy with how the first two episodes have been so far, they've been a lot closer to the books than the movie and generally speaking they feel like they've had a lot of love and care put into them :) I also feel like the pacing for the first two episodes has been pretty strong, it feels like they're taking their time with things which I appreciate. I really hope the rest of the series is at least as good as these episodes have been :)
There are 5 books in the original series and each season is going to be a book so season 1 is book 1 The Lighting Thief (then book wise there’s a spin off series called Heroes of Olympus which has another 5 books, then there’s Trials of Apollo also with 5 books which I believe has a lot less to do with the main characters from the past books, and there are a lot of books with more world building and short stories like: Demigod diaries, Camp half blood confidential, etc., and then there’s the Kane chronicles, and Magnus Chase and the gods of Asgard which take place in the same universe and you occasionally see some of the characters from the other books, and Magnus is Annabeth’s cousin, they probably won’t get to do Heroes of Olympus cause of the ages since that entire series happens within a year apparently, Personally I’ve only read the first 2 books and half of the 3rd in the original series and the first Magnus chase book and the first story of Demigod diaries and the first story of Percy Jackson’s Greek heroes and I’ve started the first Kane chronicles book)

In the book Sally Jackson took all the crap from her husband because she did it for her son. And as soon as Percy could protect himself Sally turn her husband into a garden nome. 😂
I must say your really pretty and love the accent
As someone who read the books back in the day, I admittedly had high hopes. This show is definitely orders of magnitude better than the 🗑 movies, *BUT* I find the acting to be very stiff, and the pacing to be wayyyyy too fast! I'm really hoping they pump the breaks in season 2. If they can fix those two things (or even just the pacing issue, as I understand new/young actors take time to perfect their craft) this show would get straight A's across the board!
Alright let's try for a fake spoiler as a long time fan of the books. So here it goes: About 4 or 5 episodes in we should learn the truth about Percy, that he is actually just a fish gills and all.

When the movie was coming out, I picked up a book 'cuz the trailer looked cool. Read the first chapter and immediately put it back down. I loved it instantly, but wanted to hold off because I knew if I read the book first, I'd wind up hating the movie. But, yeah, the books were fantastic and the first two episodes alone are WAY more accurate to them.

I will admit I like that the series has done so much more with keeping true to the books. But I absolutely hate what they did with grover.
You should read or listen to the books in later on you can pick up hints of lgbtq stuff in books three

At the very least she will be watching it but I don't know if she will react, she's never read the books or anything but she LOVES Greek mythology. The only issue is that reactions for this show just aren't doing well, especially not for a brand newly released show. And because the episodes are longer it makes it not really worthwhile to do as a reaction series. I'm going to be finishing s1 and see how it performs overall before I decide if I'm touching s2 when it airs

Seemed like Gabe was toned down for this series.
My only thing that I know about Percy Jackson is the crappy first movie! But I did like it for a little mindless fun. Seeing you watch this was hard cause I don't like seeing people crying or worried or anything. I want to help those people to laugh and smile and it is so hard watching something where I know they really are going to lose it. If I had mony (like alot of it) I'd buy you a real Hammish and a big stuffed one too!
