The parallels between Annabeth and Medusa this episode!!! Annabeth defended Athena against Medusa's claims, only for her mother to turn around, and once again, punish her own daughter for the actions of son of Poseidon.
Imo the kid playing baby Percy (who is the cutest ❤) deserves as much praise as the main three actors. Even though he hasn't had as much screentime, I've been really impressed with him, especially at the beginning of this episode. The fear on his face during the dream sequence looked so genuine 😭 Also, this show is dropping Percabeth crumbs like crazy 😂 I wasn't expecting so much this early but Walker and Leah are doing such a good job building up that relationship, they really were perfectly cast together
Insightful commentary, thanks. Just a couple of tiny quibbles - the creature in the carrier IS the Chimera. It stings Percy with its tail (you can see that the tail is a literal snake during the arch scenes). Also, the fight ends in the book the same as it does in the series, with Percy falling out of the arch.
@@DivaQuinzel there's some confusion with the design as to whether they made a Manticore or Chimera cuz a manticore is lion body and scorpion tail and only those 2 levels of danger, but a chimera is lion front half, goat back half WITH FACE ATTACHED and snake head and body as tail that also breathes fire, which is about twice the danger level. It's also about 2x as difficult to draw without it looking terrible. So someone either got them confused or made the executive decision to go more Manticore than Chimera.
[MILD BOOK SPOILER AHEAD] Thing is, the 'stepmother trope' was all in Annabeth's head, as revealed in Book Three "The Titan's Curse". Mrs. Chase is actually a nice woman, but her frustration towards the frequent monster attacks due to Annabeth's presence was read by the latter as directed towards her. This gives her the impression she was a "problem" in her stepmom's eyes, prompting her to leave home. Love watching your reactions, Aisha!
@@BellaStrda I mean, yeah, wasn't it that her stepmom couldn't see that she was attacked (because it weren't normal spiders) and just saw it as her waking up her brothers?
What i found hilarious was annabeth wearing her headscarf to bed... like disney+ really out here trying to protray a black girl as accurate as ever.. like i see u disney+ 😂
I loved that detail! I don't expect race to play a big factor in this series (thankfully the characters have so many other interspecies problems to deal with) but I appreciate the little things that are more intrinsic to the characters traits regardless of ethnicity like Coily hair = needing protective styles and head coverings
love your analysis/review at the end! completely agree with all of the points, even as a book reader the episode was great, we just need to petition Disney for season 2 to have 24 45mins long episodes
12:31 Some of them are, some of them are not In this sense, we can say that mythology is relatively equal in gender terms, they are like "I don't care if it's a male or female, it's still a monster."
Just got caught up with all your pjo reactions. I love your attitude and your vibe. You're very cool. And you're doing a great job of reacting emotively without giving anything away for non-book readers! Probably the best at that out of any of the book reader reactions I've watched tbh. Excited to watch the rest of this series with you!
i genuinely hate cliff hangers so much. and the short episode times. like what? i guess that means it’s good i’m wanting more but ugh waiting a week is so hard
Yeah I agree with Athen being petty a medusa head gets sent to you so you decide that the punishment for that was to let your kid be put in a life or death situation that's pretty extreme btw you are hilarious (ugly monster children and Ms. Jackson Outkast reference)lol
Tv show reactions hit different when a Black person does them. I was so in sync with you. This was a wild episode. Also, glad you understood Percy's reaction to that duppy fish in the water. Too many white folks reactions were like ...just trust the voice. Um, no, I need some verification when a mystery thing comes up to me in the water and says 'breathe.' Like!!

The Greek gods being petty trash is very much consistent with the original Greek mythology.

their chemistry is so amazing for being their age. i love them.
OMG yes young Percy nailed it. The casting directors deserve raises

I thought it was a Scorpions tail?

Sorta like when people call a Wyvern a Dragon.

I think Athena deserves the most blame out of all of Annabeth’s parents.
If you’re posting spoilers you should put a lot of space before writing the spoiler. Give people a choice if they wanna see it or not.

Yeah, This show hired sensitivity readers once Annabeth was cast as a black girl. Rick made sure of it.

19:00 the chimera IS the baby monster. There isn't 2 separate monsters.
