      Ice cube trays?

    • @NorthwestOpenSeason
      @NorthwestOpenSeason  6 лет назад

      35qantwine - Not ice cube trays, but silicone ice cube molds and silicone popsicle molds. The one in the video was a mold for a big ice ball that’s used for putting in your drinks

    How does the eye hold up to repeated casting? Do they break out easily?

    • @NorthwestOpenSeason
      @NorthwestOpenSeason  3 года назад +1

      Never had one break. You bury the paper clip down so just the tip is exposed. We cast them and let them sit on the bottom for sturgeon. You could always create even more bends and twists in the paper clip if you’re concerned about it though.

  • @MooMooOutdoors
    @MooMooOutdoors 5 лет назад +1

    Great diy sinkers. How do they hold up? Does the paper clips ever break?

    • @NorthwestOpenSeason
      @NorthwestOpenSeason  5 лет назад +2

      Thanks Moo! They hold up pretty well, they will definitely chip over time if banging against rocks. Never had a paper clip break. We use these for sturgeon in snaggy areas, so usually if they hang up, they break off anyway

    Where did u get the cone shaped silicon popsicle molds? I see the pinched bottoms everywhere online, but I can not find the ones you got. And those are perfect bank fishing weights and if they are 8 oz that is exactly what we need down here in Cali around the bay, delta and river in the spring and summer months

    • @roycie1282
      @roycie1282 5 лет назад

      Now that I'm watching it again, u actually have the pinched bottom correct?

    • @NorthwestOpenSeason
      @NorthwestOpenSeason  5 лет назад +1

      Royce Osentowski - We bought our molds from different vendors, seems like everyone has different options. Check Bed Bath & Beyond, and Amazon, I think that’s where we got them

    • @roycie1282
      @roycie1282 5 лет назад

      What is the dimensions of the popsicle mold? mostly the length is what I'm interested in

    • @roycie1282
      @roycie1282 5 лет назад

      For anyone reading this the popsicle molds are called "Zing silicone ice pop molds". They are 7.25" in length or about 200mm. I searched around and believe that they are no longer made, I found them on Amazon over $4 for 1 (which is to much in my opinion). I will go and check my local BBB maybe they will have them although they don't have it listed on their website

    So these things are kinda large. Is that because the cement is a lot less dense than lead and so the sinkers have to be larger?

    • @NorthwestOpenSeason
      @NorthwestOpenSeason  4 года назад +2

      Yeah. It’s not as dense as lead. Not ideal for all fishing, but for some it’s ok

  • @CaioViannaPesca

    Where did you buy those popsicle silicone molds? I am having a hard time finding there this size... I can only find smaller ones :/ Thanks!

    • @NorthwestOpenSeason
      @NorthwestOpenSeason  3 года назад +1

      Bed Bath and Beyond had them a couple years ago. That’s where we bought them.

  • @celticwarrior777
    @celticwarrior777 4 года назад +2

    those worked out good. what was the weight on them?

    • @NorthwestOpenSeason
      @NorthwestOpenSeason  4 года назад +1

      Celtic Highlander&AHook - the long popsicle style ends up being about 9 ounces. We had several different kinds of molds to make anything from about 6-10 ounces

  • @SK_CrappieCatching
    @SK_CrappieCatching 6 лет назад

    EXCELLENT how too.... have you made any smaller versions of those?

    • @NorthwestOpenSeason
      @NorthwestOpenSeason  6 лет назад +1

      SK's CRAPPIE Catchn Adventures - we have poured a little smaller, but all we use them for is sturgeon. There are many types and sizes of silicone molds that would work also though.

      SK's CRAPPIE Catchn Adventures- Thanks for the support!

  • @celticwarrior777

    not sure a paperclip is strong enough maybe better using swivels and imbedding them

    • @NorthwestOpenSeason
      @NorthwestOpenSeason  4 года назад

      Celtic Highlander&AHook - we never had any issues with the paper clip failing before our line would break. Swivels would definitely work and we thought about that, but we ended up just trying to keep it cheap

    I hope you use a very special cement because ordinary cement is toxic for fish.

    • @NorthwestOpenSeason
      @NorthwestOpenSeason  4 года назад +1

      Nikolaj C - You can see what cement we are using in the thumbnail pic. We were most interested in finding an alternative to lead which can be extremely harmful to our waters and fish.

      Adventures with Frodo - it’s not perfect but it’s not as bad as leaving lead in the river. What kind of epoxy do you use?

      Miguel Salami - Thanks for watching. Just an update, we are almost exclusively using silicone molds which can be poured repeatedly with very little or no damage which means the molds will last for a very long time eliminating waste.
