Thank you so much for this video, Rich. I read this book and I'm due to try and communicate the key learning points to my team this week. Your presentation and organization of the concepts really helped me solidify my own thoughts on the material. Definitely visiting again to watch the rest of your videos!

The point about explanatory style is incorrect, according to the work of Martin Seligman. It's not that a pervasive, personal, and permanent explanatory style is bad per se, it's got one level of complexity beyond that. Seligman's research found that the poorly-performing salespeople had a permanent, pervasive, personal explanatory style for their *negative* outcomes, and a temporary, specific, external explanation for their positive outcomes. And vice-versa for well-performing salespeople. The idea is that you want to describe the things you do well as a result of permanent things, and the things you do poorly as temporary things. For example "I passed that test because I'm an intelligent, hardworking person", vs "I *failed* that test because I had the flu". Seligman lays this theory out in his book "Learned Optimism".
