George if you read this know that I am a big fan of yours, I‘ve read everything from Dying Light to Fevre Dream, and I‘ve read ASOIAF more than 20 times. Would that I could meet you in person. You and Tolkien and your friend Andrzej Sapkowski are three of my most respected authors.
He has said he really hates it when countless people come up to him to have a selfie taken with him, and that he prefers them asking for autographs instead.
Combined with context of the post this is truly fascinating. I wish I have had some obscure interviews I could look back upon to see how I have changed; or if it wasn't for the change at least to have a snap shot of my life. Then again it might also be beneficial to not be able to do that. Some things are better in memory after idealising it for a while.... ... Nah, screw that. I'm aware that I am not, was not and will not be perfect; so I am assured to get some laughs out of it. Who knows might even have been something insightful and entertaining like Martin said in the interview. Maybe I should arrange an interview; right after Hoverboards arrive. - wait a second shouldn't they've been here already
Telling George to write faster is like telling Einstein to come up faster with his theory of relativity. He's one of a kind, probably one of the biggest geniuses on earth right now. We cant understand what its like to create something like this. I just wished you would let us know what's going on, George. You changed my life. Your true fans will always love you for what you gifted us. But Ive been checking your blog daily for years now and Im just desperate. I just want to know wheter there is still hope or whether youve given up on it, which wouldnt be what I wish for but at least we would know.
My guess is that he has lost his motivation to continue ASOIAF since the show has basically spoiled everything for him. He cannot impress and surprise the reader with all major events of ASOIAF anymore. If Stannis murders his daughter, we will yawn. If Jon betrays Dany for love, we will yawn. Everything is already known and old.
@@larochejaquelein3680 Hm maybe but i would like to think that the books had far more to offer than those two scenes. Im not giving up. George already missed a few deadlines with AFFC and ADWD and he still delivered them in the end.
@@melonenkopf2790 I have read so many books after having seen the movies they were adapted from and yet some went on to be my favorites, much like I read the books after most seasons were aired. I just hope George finishes the story he wanted to write and doesn't let the fact that the show spoiled stuff get to him. But I believe he is writing it since F&B was published, which I am guessing was a cut of old drafts, including TWoW drafts, likely all abandoned after the show outpaced him and also just because he may have changed his mind over time over some plot points. Now he's free form it all and can move on.
@@larochejaquelein3680 I read the novels after the show ended. I didn't yawn during the execution of Ned nor during the Red Wedding. And these are just the climaxes of some of the storylines, these novels have so much more to offer. There's tons of mysteries to be unveiled and set-ups to be paid off. There's Victarion Greyjoy, Arianne Martell, Griff, etcetera etcetera. In addition to all that, it's not just about the destination, but the narrative journey towards it, the character development, worldbuilding, incredible dialogue and so on. And in some ways, it's even more interesting to see how he will make the things that didn't work in the show (Stannis' downfall, the death of Ser Barristan, the Not-So-Long Night) work in the novels. So, even with all the show spoilers, there's much to look forward to. At least for me! :)
I quess this was back in the days when trade shows and cons focused on content instead of messaging. Not surprised to see GRRM skipping worldcon this year.
This is what George looked like when he started writing Winds
George just posted that video on his blog so it seems pretty probable that he read your comment. I wonder how that feels lol
😂😂😂
this is the summer he started writing asoiaf!! I wonder how far along he was when he recorded this
still just as far from finishing
Such a smart, humble man.
Is smart to be humble. It's intelligent!!
@@haSHAH1 Agree. Intelligent and advanced.
Shout out to George for sending me here!

Fevre Dream was dope. Alexander Skarsgaard needs to play Joshua York if they ever adapt it.
No need to brag, I've read it 21+ times
In fact, I have read it 22+ times
WOW!! Can’t believe I found this !
This was great, thanks!
1:03 or a Geroge RR Martin. I wonder how he in this instance would have thought to know he would fall in that caategory.

George Targaryen, the first of his name
0:08 George was considered unremarkable before ASOIAF?! He wrote 'Fevre Dream' and 'Dying of the light'!
This was before social media.
This man changed the good and bad prospectives

His books are good, but don't wash-out the meaning of genius. Those are for Newton and Arkhimedes and the sort.

His series is called a song of ice and fire , not Game of thrones
Yes very good
And who is this aimed at? Nobody said otherwise
Still kinda has that jersey accent lol

George was the secret Targaryen all along.
He was 43 in this interview btw
George Targaryen?
OMG
Who’s watching now that Winds is out?
DRAGON KING GEORGE EXOTIC
It's A Song of Ice and Fire (not fire and ice)
I was about to say how he hasn't aged well but it basically ended up me realising I'm almost 30 😂
GRRM is a white walker.
no its about old europe that
1) you did;t finish
2) two brothers rubbished it
Dude says he doesn't remember this interview at all.
@Anthony I'm scared of the idea that he may have severe writer's block and has actually done jack for the past several years. :-/
@@Mprator It's incredibly likely that he was near to Finishing the Winds of Winter but then scrapped it and started it again from the start.
From so many interviews he's done over his career it's not uncommon to forget a few
I thought it was Chris Chan for a moment omg
yup practically the same brain type too
wtf is that hair
Yeah I don't get it
It was 1991 bruh
Hair of a genius
