His love for Tolkien really shows in his work and was able to add his own touch to the unique world building allowed by such a complex history. But my favorite part of his writing is having a story told from various perspectives... It allows revelations to be staring you right in the face and encapsulates so much more depth than a story edited by the victor!

People seem to be really missing what Martin was doing with Fire and Blood. The amount of people saying this isnt exactly how it happened in the book for House of the Dragon. The entire point of writting as if by an in world Maesters hundreds of years after the events is that it may not be an accurate account. So saying it's not exactly how the book portrays it, makes sense. The book is only supposed to be a historian doing his best to piece together events he wasnt there for. So Martin is flat out telling us this is probably not exactly how it really happend.

I walked into this book with some consternation after what I heard from some readers. But I absolutely loved Fire and Blood and it read brilliantly. That may be because I read a terrible lot of actual history books and it’s written in the style of a historian covering the first half or so of Targaryen rule. I was surprised by how much content is actually in the book. It doesn’t just mention a ton of names and cover a reign in a couple of pages. We get quite an in-depth look at some of the most important events in the history of Westeros.
I personally loved it so much I bough the illustrated companion book The Rise of the Dragon. Although as fantastic as they both are, I still want to see a new ASOIAF book already. Don’t get me wrong, I love the world building, because it brings the world to life and gives you a fresh perspective rereading the original series. Which I haven’t done just yet, but you will obviously know a ton more back story if you read Fire and Blood.
I’ve always gravitated towards House Targaryen, so I couldn’t get enough of this.

So I have the same favorite Targaryen as George R.R. Martin. So what? He creates these characters. His favorite dragon is Balerion which would be my favorite dragon as well. Tyrion Lannister was his favorite from Game of Thrones who was also my favorite. Well, at least up to S4.
Among book readers, Viserys I is not exactly regarded a good king. In fact , many readers blame him for the civil war breaking out. But Paddy added so much layers to him that he raised the character's stock from the TV show. Paddy truly deserves an Emmy.
There is a Blu-ray version that will add some deleted scenes. I believe once this Blu-ray version is out, this longer cut should be the only version that HBO should keep re-airing. The version we just watched is the Make-Daemon-A-Demon cut.
Sick and tired of HBO writers trying to dirty GRRM's favorite Targ that Matt Smith has to come up with improv to prevent them from assassinating his character. I'm aware Daemon isn't good but at least give him a fair shake and stop insulting his fans thinking we are all morons.
Ryan Condal and Sara Hess come off extremely condescending to their viewers. Sorry if Daemon isn't written like Paul Rudd, Sara.

Why do you assume that GRRM has no input on Daemon’s character arc? He works with the writers on nearly every facet of the story, he would provide his input where its needed. No one wants another GoT S8

You start with self-centered, murderous Daemon? "Maegor II to be" if for not the simple fact he loved his brother? Dafuq
Same with Rhaena, she started as a character one feels pity for and hopes for a happy ending, but quickly becomes the self-centered abuser herself.

I'm guessing you're frustrated (like everyone else) because we still haven't seen Winds of Winter, and yet GRRM has spent much of his time on so many "side projects." 😅 I think his procrastination also comes from the fans' disappointment on the latter seasons of the show. We don't know if that was actually GRRM's true ending for ASOIAF, both for books and the show.
But as far as F&B is concerned, "Fire and Blood" is literally the House Targaryen's words. Obviously the book will be about the Targaryens. If you don't like them, then don't read it. Theirs is a legitimately good story, and House Targaryen is a fan favorite. The book will still be profitable.
Also, there's no "wessos" only Westeros and Essos, so... 😅
