I'm honestly super happy for GRRM. He seems very hyper and passionate again. The past few years were not good to him. Not only due to GoT ending in disaster but also the lockdown, and losing several of his friends to COVID. It looks like HotD really helped boost his confidence and self-esteem. It's actually really heartwarming.
Yep, he's really getting excited about writing more side novels instead of the Winds of Winter!!!
I love seeing him hyper and in better spirits 😊
@@hamzamahmood9565 bruh
@@hamzamahmood9565 that's his choice
right and he sometimes brings up TWoW, asoiaf characters unprovoked too 😭 this is his life's work and to see people tuning in for HOTD is all the assurance he needs. Also the interviewers they've been choosing for book tour have been so calming and passionate themselves
Question - “would u rather have a dire wolf or a dragon?”

The fact that he still remembers shagga son of dolf after 20 yrs
He remembers all the minor characters, in another interview he mentioned it being one of his unique talents
I mean he does see the characters he has made sort of like his children.
Dude who would forget Shagga son of Dolf??
Shagga likes axes!
Back in season 1 they included all the minor characters. In season 5 they did the even include young griff
I love how he gives these questions his full attention and provides his logic behind the answers.
He didn't explain why he picked Tywin over Otto.
@@manthe3711 The exception that proves the rule.
@@MrBrock314 He kind of dodged the Dragon vs Direwolf question by stating that there are advantages to both, then moving on to the next question.

imagining Gregor Clegane get foul after foul is pretty god damn funny lmao
Does to a ref what he does to Oberyn 😂
Kills another mascot... but damn can he block 😂
GRRM should be a maester in HotD just for fun
In the GoT game in PS3 he had a cameo and voiced one of the maesters and he even had glasses lol

@@jonathanjoestar3923 I can't imagine GRRM having a HotD cameo and it not feeling forced. Maybe a very brief non-speaking role. It's a very serious show. George would destroy immersion, and inserting himself would do a disservice to everyone else involved.

The man loves Tyrion. Found a way to involve him in 2 questions that had nothing to do with him. Can't say I blame you George. Tyrion is a real one
I think of all the characters, Tyrion and Sam are written the most like him. He isn’t a brave fighter, or an especially handsome man, and he knows it. But he’s a smart guy with a talent for reading and writing, and he knows that too.
He loves his Tyrion. He never goes with out mentioning him somewhere in his discussion. I love that about him and always get a simple joy when he drops Tyrions name. That’s his baby and he’s not afraid to show it. So happy to see George excited and engaging again. ❤ book or no book his stories have been such a joy in my life. And his character will live with me forever. It is known.
I also really like his fondness for Tyrion. I think it may be pretty much based on himself. Or at least Tyrion is how he'd like to be viewed as. I'm very happy for him, TWOW being released or no, this man keeps giving me joy wherever I get immersed in his world. He has given me some of my most beautiful memories in life reading his books. I have a lot to thank him for.
He sucks tyrion
I am laughing my ass off picturing George going to his security cameras or something and seeing raccoons feasting on his fish.
George R. R. Martin seems like a decent down to earth guy. He deserves being in the Spotlight for very Successfully Writing Great Book Series and having them adapted into hit T.V. shows. I enjoy these RUclips Interactions with him.
If only George really could live forever...
"Can I just live forever?"
YES PLEASE, George!! 🤩🤩😉
Also the mountain would fail any drug test
The hound would be shit faced drunk though not sure that is allowed.
The mountain would kill one of his own teammates for snoring too loud.
I love GRRM's responses here 😂😂
lol love that old man can I die the way Tyrion wanted to die. I just hope one day we get to see GRR cameo on one of The Westeros shows or if they ever did a future Game of Thrones could see him, Cameo, as Grand Maester Sam Tarly reading the events of a song of Ice and Fire to his and Gillys Grandchildren.
A quote from George: "I did do a cameo in the original pilot of Game of Thrones but they reshot most of that so I wound up on the cutting room floor," he said. "I was also supposed to be a severed head. In the scene where Joffrey shows Sansa the heads one was supposed to be mine. Then they found out how expensive it was to make a severed head so they just bought a box of severed heads. One of them turned out to be George W. Bush, and they got in a lot of trouble. Who knows? Maybe I can yet become a severed head."
@@viniciusbaeta7997 So he was willing to do a cameo but the showrunners were too cheap to let him do so, even over the course of 8 seasons? Wow..
@@essayedgar Not really, they likely thought it wasn't worth the effort to make a specific head out of one character. And if they really wanted a cameo from him, seeing how he produced and even wrote some of the episodes from seasons 1-4, it wouldn't have been that hard. They likely thought he had better things to do with his time. There's a lot of reasons to be angry at D&D, but this ain't one of them
This man deserves the world he is a national treasure
”I could write all day”.
Funny.
“Would you rather join the King’s Gaurd or Be a Maester?”
We already knew what his answer to that would be, next question.
GRRM: "And being able to burn the hell out of my enemies" Interviewer: "Ha ha..." GRRM: "It was not a joke"
I love GRRM taking all the third options 😂😂
Please take care of your health Sir! We’re still waiting for the next books

Winds of winter, Fire and Blood 2 then he can go. The rate this dude writes we will be lucky to get winds of winter
@@apomtaylor8054 no dream of spring?
The thing is. Freezing to death depends if you freeze peacefully in your sleep or if you have to watch every part of your body die to frostbite. On the other hand, dragonfire is almost instant. When the tarlys were roasted alive or even their army, it was not even a second until they were ash.
« Can i die the way Tyrion wanted to die ? » 😂
Dragon fire is the only time id pick dying to fire. Reason being its so hot you get carbonized and turned to ash instantly, so its actually a pretty painless death. Your nerves would probably go into shock from the trauma and you wouldnt feel anything.
Indeed, freezing may be even more painful than burning alive by dragonfire, it's a very slow and agonizing death
And freezing cold also can give you the same thermal injury as fire
Freezing is extremely painful and uncomfortable and slow. I would also choose dragon fire
@@CatherineAaBb tf you guys talking about, freezing is as painless as it gets. You lose energy, your body goes numb and you stop feeling anything. It's best compared to falling under anesthesia. As you slowly lose consciousness and start slipping into the darkness, you may not even realize that you've fallen into a sleep that you'll never wake up from.
Freezing can only be painful if you get rescued and you have to deal with your body thawing out, your cells with ruptured walls, screaming at your nervous system, your veins overloaded with fluids that first stretched them to their limits and then put additional pressure on them after the blood started flowing freely again. That's the painful part, not dying of cold but surviving it.
@@vassalofthenight9945 "That's the painful part, not dying of cold but surviving it." This could almost be a passage from the books
@@vassalofthenight9945 you are right, but I'd still choose dragonfire, you die in 2 seconds.
Tywin and Otto are both monsters, but Tywin served loyally until Aerys betrayed him, Otto schemed against Jaehaerys, and Viserys from the start, using his daughter as a pawn.
I don't think he necessarily schemed against them, definitely not Jaehaeys. He just did what pretty much any lord in his position would do. Tywin would've done the same, and almost certainly would have married Cersei off to whoever that Targaryen king was at the time. The problem was that it was the Mad King Aerys, and not someone decent.
Is Mace Tyrell also evil in your book as he schemes to make Margaery queen? It seems anyone who tries to marry his house with the one on the iron throne is "evil" now.
@@kenmasters1803 youre like right on the cusp of understanding what the entire series is about
@@kenmasters1803 The Tyrells are evil yes. Idk with the books how complicit Mace was but the Tyrells schemed and succeeded in killing the king of the seven kingdoms. Sure it was Joffreys and he’s shit but they’re just as vile as the others
@@Al-ji4gd i dont see pretty much any lord sending their 15 year old daughter to seduce a disabled dementia patient, nor marry an obese alchoholic grieving widower. Tywin wanted a royal marriage but didnt start a war over it. Also its a lot more understandable for Tywin to want a royal marriage because the crown is so weak with Aerys as king and no dragons, that a Lannister marriage genuinely wouldve helped the Targaryens. The same is not true for Otto Hightower. When the Targaryens still had money, power, and dragons, Otto divided the realms resources by offering Alicent. Wheras marriage to a Velaryon, would actually offer something, like dragons and a fleet. Otto undermines the king and starts a war for his own ambition, Tywin wouldve financed the realm if Cersei had married Rhaegar.
Been seeing a lot of George recently and I like it!
Tywin is more agreeable, he still has ambitions like Otto and uses force more than the pen compared to Otto is strictly diplomatic. At the beginning of Aerys reign, he simply applied himself and did nothing but helped the realm and has his own issues but it doesn't get in the way of the job. Otto on the other hand furthers his own agenda and discretely encourages Viserys' reputation and relationship with his family to be ruined in order to supplant his own blood in his place as his endgame. We wouldn't know what it would be like if Tywin and Aerys remained amiable or if it would devolve into another Dance but the clear evidence that Tywin is better is because he was close friends with Aerys and wouldn't have any more ambition to supplant his friend yet so long as Joanna was alive to bind him. Otto and Viserys were on a strict professional relationship that only spiraled down to manipulation.
Dying by fire is a bad way to go, but I feel dragonfire is a different story. That thing can dismantle walls and melt bones, I think it'll be like being hit by artillery, maybe painful for a second, but you'd be atomized right after.
Would you rather:
Finish Winds of Winter or
Do everything else
Don't ever die, George! We need you to finish those books.
I love this guy
Love this
Aww George, we would love for you to live forever. ❤️
Yeah maybe then we'd see books 6 and 7 actually come out
I would 100% choose Tywin over Otto, he was really good as hand for Aerys until he went mad
Happiest I've seen him in an interview in whhhhile
Yesss, agree sir, I wish you could live forever
aww grrm loves his tyrion
Interviewer: Would you rather have a Dragon or a Direwolf?
George: So I have this Kio pond in my house
now i’m imagining the Hound busting around the tackle and just leveling dudes 😂
George actually portrayed himself as a maester in the GOT rpg game
The interviewer, David Anthony Durham, wrote a very good trilogy himself called Acacia that I really enjoyed.
yes live forever
Why he isn't my grandpa 😭 i love this guy so much 😭😭😭
I could listen to him talk all day…after he finishes Winds of Winter
Would you rather focus on one job and finish the book everybody's waiting for or do anything but that?
Really interested to know what he really thinks or says about the dragon because of this whole thing about whether the Targs really control the dragons.
He'll never say it. Kinda like how valyrian steel is made. It's better to remain a mystery.
@@TJ-fe7rr I also suspect that there is some secret magic and purpose to why dragons bonded with the Targs, why they disappeared and reappeared with Danny.
The only clue thus far is Martin being really pissed with Dave and Dan when they showed Danny surviving the fire in the Dothraki city. He said that that the ability cannot be conjured at will and happened only once for a very special purpose (i.e the birth of her dragons)
@@rishabhaniket1952 There are hints that the dragons also have some primate DNA.
Human/dragon relationships seem more like a human bond or partnership, like you can never truly know the others mind. Whereas a warg can almost completely dominate the mind of other animals.
If I had to guess about the fire resistance during the dragon hatching ritual, it probably has something to do with the comets appearance providing power and protection. What exactly the relationship is, wether Danys actions influenced it's appearance or its appearance influenced Danys actions idk.
I'm very intrigued by the tywin otto question and answer.
I love how fast he thought about his answers haha.
Hearing GRRM talk about football was so cool 😎
Tywin betrayed his king. Otto, to his credit, never betrayed Viserys.
Great to hear he loves writing… wish he would get down with a Certain book the world has been waiting for
Freezing to death is slower, but a lot less painful. Once the frostbite gets your nerve endings, you just feel warm and tired and eventually just fall asleep forever
Give us Winds of Winter
Tywin has it all: he’s as clever (if not more), far more able as a warrior and battle commander, and he’s actually a loyal hand. It took a great deal of personal offence and insult before he turned against Aerys Targaryen.
Goerge : "I can't have Tyrion? Hahaha 😄"
"No. That was not one of the options. 😐"
George : "Can't I just live forever? hahaha 😄"
"mNo 😑."
George seems so playful and engaged and the interviewer wants none of it
Freezing on the wall would be much slower than being burned by dragon. Dragon fire runs extremally hot, I guess if it's focused on one person it burns through nerves and spinal chord in a manner of seconds. On the show we would see the bodies being practically disintegrated.
*insert winds of winter question*
Dragon would be first choice, Otto would be my choice of hand (less dangerous/evil then Tywin) choice of death would be to freeze. A good question for him, would he rather remake season 8 or keep it the same.
I would definitely have Tywin as my hand
3:32 George is an older Peter Griffin confirmed lmao
😂😂
For Me: Meister, Dragon, I don't know anything about sports so I'll steal his answer and say the hound, Tywin as my hand, burn alive by dragonfire if it's instant. I think when you freeze you get real hot anyways so that sounds terrible and slow. Loved this interview with him, wish there were more questions!
I imagine Tywin would be good to have in times of war, but he's also very obnoxious and I'd reckon he'd patronize me at every turn. Hahaha
The way Tyrion wanted to die is definitely better than freezing or burning.
But dying with the dragon fire is so much quicker
The poor coys tho...
Poor martin... 😅😭
Everyone would like a dragon until they have it, yeah, good luck with that pal.
Would you rather finish your most loved series and be respected and loved by your loyal fans or write anything else and annoy and disappoint everyone before you die leaving your best work unfinished?
Would you rather? Finish Winds of Winter? Continue not doing that?
To play for the NY giants, I'd choose the mountain. Before tyrions second trial by combat because when he was living, Gregor had that goliath like fury. Post trial by combat doesn't make it much fun
"Would you rather have a Dragon or a Direwolf?"
Now that, THAT is a difficult question!
The publishing company probably concerned they wont get their book before he dyes, "Let's get the most outta him first"
He loves Tyrion so much😂🥰
Would you rather finish the books or just abandon them?
@3:33 Yes, I remember / know how Tyrion described his ideal death. I am quite a big GOT fan, but I don't remember the name of such a minor character like Shagga son of Dolf. How can George R. R. Martin remember Shagga son of Dolf? That's soo awesome.
Would you rather finish winds or push out a dragon picture book?
That's awesome that he remembers whag Tyrion's way to go is, and who asked him.
I too, would like to go out how Tyrion had always wanted. I’d have to agree it sounds wayyy better than either of those options😂
Glad to see that Mr Martin is as astute and violent as ever
Would you rather finish the Song of Ice and fire or write scripts for TV series and movies?
Would you rather finish the 6th book or.... there is no other choice. Finish the 6th book
"Write all day"..... are you sure George?
Would you rather finish Winds of Winter or Sleep?
Freeze of burn? Freeze
The interviewer has the personality of a rock here
literally what I would say in all of them, icon
I can't believe he had a hard time choosing between Tywin and Otto lajhdjskah Tywin always!
Missed opportunity to guess his answers and make him drink whenever you guessed correctly
Ele é fofo
Would you rather finish your series or make another HBO show?
I would have actually died of laughter if the guy asked him whether he would rather finish his book after a dozen years OR continue doing the stuff he actually does these days.
Lmao
Freeze to death, no question.
Even summer is too bloody hot.
Maester would probably be preferable overall (if you have to be chaste, being absorbed in the histories is probably the best way to be) but ygotta tip your cap to the fellahs who embody martial honour.
As a bit of an aside, Though, while i do understand that the theme of 'love being the death of duty' is a central one in this series, it does seem that - especially being as we're talking about a world in which heredity, kin, ancestry; being heir to legacies and striving to live up to them, etc - restricting the Kingsguard and the Watch from siring children is missing an opportunity. Why not have like lifelong martial colleges, where these warriors can sire sons who'll be raised to be warriors in turn. I'd certainly be open to greenlighting that kind of project were i a westerosi bigwhig.
Tywin is a no brainer…he is unquestionably the greatest character in the GOT universe..let’s be honest he was the greatest king that never was
As much as I'd like to have a dragon, I feel like it'd drive me into the poor house to keep it alive, and it'd eat me once I couldn't afford to take care of it anymore lol. I guess one could let the Dragon go free range, but uhh... Not sure I'd last long with a country of pissed off humans looking for my head, dragon or not. I'd pick Direwolf for the long term stability, assuming no one else in the world is offered a Dragon or Direwolf, of course.
A fellow man of culture.
Unlike in his works, here he goes straight to the points. GRRM has refused to tell us whether Robert's Rebellion was justified but we love you George.
Fire is quicker, freezing is slower. Plus death by fire is the purest death 🤪
Someone please help what does maiden of 3 and 10 mean? Brianne said she is looking for a maid of 3 and 10.. what are the numbers referring to?
