Book readers are definitely more disciplined and mature. Because a few days before the episode, Jon snows death was spoiled for me by those who had seen episode early. But then I found out book readers had knew about this for years. It took days for tv viewers to spoil, book readers kept it quiet years. I need to read the books to join the master race.
well the problem is that the tv show watchers are those more casual fans that at the end of the episode go shout in twitter what just happened and forget about it the next day
OneTwoMark It's because the show is more big, I'm not saying it's better than the books just more big. And because it has so many people watching it, and it being on tv, being talked about in interviews, being rated each episode, every scene being on RUclips, it's gonna be hard avoiding spoilers. With books people don't really hold as many interviews and press conferences, there's not as many reviews of books, people don't tend to read chapters of books on RUclips as much as scenes are uploaded.
It has taken him about 6 years now to write his latest book for the series. Considering that there will be 2 more books after this one and his current writing speed it will probably take 12 years to write the next 2 books.
Actually, most of the 6th is done and with some luck, he'll be done by the end of 2017 or early 2018. So that leaves 6 or 7 more years for the 7th book, if he keeps going at the same pace. Still a good bit of time.
He's right his work will eventually fall into these cash mongering asshats in suits and that terrifies me this series deserve the respect they have earned through fire and blood
There needs to be a comic book versions of dunk and egg, asoiaf, and other shorts as well, all of them adapted to comic books, video games, movies, animations, TV show?
Funny he says that no other writers will write in his world even though right now the tv writers are finnishing his story with their own (probably inverior) ending to the song of ice and fire saga....
George, I have read some amazing fanfiction in your work. I can guarantee you that while there is plenty of crap. There are people who genuinely love your work so much to create amazing alternate paths and different stories told in your work. So please to the people who love your work and wish to carry on the legacy do not allow publications. Fair enough but a silent blessing to the inspiring authors who love your work. I have finally began writing my own novel inspired by your work. It has nothing to do with medieval fantasy but is a contemporary current event piece about soldiers. But all the same your style and your writings have given me great insight on how to write characters. I hope you change your mind on fanfiction of your work dear author. Because your work and admittedly writing fiction about your work is what inspired me to one day hopefully become a publsihed novelist.
Well of course it is fan fiction. D&D signed up to adapt the books into television thinking they would get more help from GRRM because they would at least have two books or maybe the whole ASOIAF series. When D&D signed up in 2007, only one book, ONE, has been written. IN 10 years, one book. They were originally adapters not writers. Now they are in the spot GRRM was suppose to be in the whole time. We will get an ending to GoT but we may never get an ending to ASOIAF. D&D have messed up but they were never suppose to write the ending to the ASOIAF universe, and now they are. They are literally fan who took up the role as adapters and the author got lazy and didn't write any more books so then they were pushed into finishing the series, by writing. It literally is fan fiction and it's a shame GRRM will never finish the series but that D&D will. But I'll give them credit for working on a tight schedule, not having the time to write a season every six years, they got less then a year to write a season. Not only that, they have no editor and they have a set budget. Say what you will about the writing but I'll give them credit where it's due. Still, I love the books and show.
well, technically LOTR is sauron striking back. since he was defeated before. but george is right. beginning middle and an end, and fucking leave it forever. your own fan fiction is as legit as that of anyone else. when the writer dies, the story dies. & george lucas died in 1985.
Kaptain Kafir by that logic, which i agree with for some stories, what is your opinion on the grander Mistborn series, whrre there are three trilogies, the third yet to be written, each trilogy taking place hundreds of years or so after the previous, with the third said to be in space (just what ive heard and not bothered to google)
@Stephen Grant never read it. which means I tried to, but I was bored by the writing style. reminded me too much of the young adult category of literature. you can have beginnings, middle's and ends beyond the limitation of a trilogy. my pointed was never to not exceed the nr 3 of books or movies, but things can be worn out really quickly if you stretch them for too long. and if you finish one story and continue as some later point, or in some cases do a prequel, it gets repetitive really fast, and just becomes a rehash, and the quality suffers also. worldbuilding such as the silmarillion is great and all, but just serves as background for the actual LOTR story. a real fleshed out story would be just too painfull and boring to read. and since the author is dead, everything from then on is fanfiction anyways. still on board?
S Camp George was not talking about that. George is saying that he doesn't want his grandkids to allow somebody else to continue writing about Westeros.

With all respect to GRRM, he's literally avoiding finishing the books. He does flicks in anthologies, Wild Cards... but nothing Winds of Winter related. I know, I know, you can't force a writer to write, nor is he our bitch to be commanded around... It's just that we WANT to read the books further, and his procrastination denies the fanbase the opportunity to advance in the story. It'll be rady when it's done, but I fucking hope that he'll find the drive in himself soon.
Seeing all the interviews he does on youtube, traveling and promoting, etc,, I can understand why the books are not finished. If he spent just a little more time at home in his office, perhaps.
Imagine how chaotic his mind is to have all these stories! But fr I hope he stays healthy so he can finish it all and clear out his mind lol also these stories could be all he has, he may never want to stop writing about it
GRRM is so lovely!Okay I know it’s very hard to wait for the next book. But as a fan I just don’t dare to urge him.Every time we urge him I think he will kill some characters.I pray that just leave my favorite characters be there.Biggest wish!
This reminded me of the late Stieg Larson. He passed and before that, he wrote three books of the Millenium series. He did a final that was a close one, no strings were left and all questions were answered. THIS A SPOILER FREE COMMENT, don't want to ruin the stories to anyone. They're the best detective books out there and everyone should enjoy them because they are wonderful, especially the first one. My point in this whole comment is that nowadays, thirteenth of September, there are two more Millenium books written by another Swedish author. I'm not here to criticize the work of the new author, I suppose he's free of guilt, in a way. I HAVEN'T READ the two new books, I will someday. The thing is it's known Stieg had several notes concerning new books he was gonna write before passing but every time this happens the same question arises. Should we continue the stories because we feel like it? Personally, no. Because it seems to me the only reason they want more books is because they want more money of the people who are passionate about the characters because they know they'll make a lot of money. Not a nice thing to do.
Wtf? You're making no sense, how was him talking about Scarlett not clear for you? If the book came before the show, surely he is talking about the show being a bad portrayal of the book..
OK look you do not have to come across so hateful so if you don't like what I said go away its that simple I have better things to worry about than your opinion
Why would the tv show end it so quickly? why are they trying to kill the cash cow? im not up to date with why they actually wont add more content and keep it going longer?
Seems strange to me the biggest epic ever created for television (thats what it is i hate admitting it too) would only be 7 seasons long with only about half a season all up of actual riveting television, the rest is cheap shit you would find in any other political series.
@Jack of Blades 8 seasons is usually the maximum for most series, if they even get that far. Plus, most actors and writers usually want to move to other projects eventually
But he build a well done complicated detailed alternative world. I always thought he gave new universe, life and energy for the literature world for many years to come, and he constructed a new method of professional writing. I mean there are many people who study his books as if it was the Bible! Good writers can follow in his steps and write about people in his world, it could be anyone anywhere in his world in anytime of the history he established, and I don't think crappy writers "who want to milk the cash cow" would risk their career with it since everyone is still crucifying D&D for their shitty fanfiction.
Sadly s8 is gonna be bad atleast we will get a prequel that those two idiots wont write george will be helping with it so i imagine the prequel is gonna be as good as season 1
I have not seen the TV series. But I've talked to people who've seen it and as I have understood it the TV series and the books are so different that you can not talk about any spoilers in relation to the other.
I love George R.R Martin, he's a very very talented writer with much thought and connection to his work. But.. He's gotta get his finger out of his ass and finish the latest book. It's his job. Martin had a deal with D&D to be finished his book by the time the show would catch up with it, there job is only to adapt the source material to T.V this is the second season they have gone on a limb and wrote to the best of their ability with only minor details and character arc directions through notes.
+sunnyDude it is his job, not simply a 'hobby' especially when you take into account that he has had no other work which has earned him a living since at least the early 90s and wrote science fiction books before that which earned him a living before he ever typed one word of ASOIAF. And it should be noted that it is we, his fan base, who have supported him financially by purchasing his books and merchandise over the years, not to mention paying for some type of HBO subscription so we can watch the adaptation- hell yeah, he owes it to us to finish the main narrative. Even after that, we buy Blu-Ray discs for the deleted scenes and director commentary. We buy vinyl figurines, we buy the flags of our favourite houses. We buy blankets and clothing and jewellery for our fellow GoT friends. We couldn't be any more considerate of George's time and effort if we tried. Well, it's a long time past due that George should give us something in return for our unwavering support: The last two books in the series. What I see unfolding here is that Martin loves his world and would rather live there than in this world, who knows? Maybe that's why he can't or won't finish the main series, so he keeps the ending at bay by taking on more projects as nearly every artist looks upon his/her work like a child, and sometimes it's scary to let go of your child's hand but you must do it. That's where I see George now. I hope he can btrak through it.
I cannot for the life of me understand how book readers can expect the show to be as good as the books considering the writers have to write a season in 6 months and George has 5-6 years. Don’t be naive. It will never be as good as the books from here on out. Stop whining and if you don’t like the show then don’t fucking watch it.
I don't think he will ever finish the series, not even Winds of Winter. Not because he will die - he isn't really that old - but because he just has no idea how to collapse the sprawling mess of a narrative he created after Book 3.
I find it hard to understand that smart lawyers cant tie up his work so tightly that no one could use it in any other way. I would prefer there to be no ending to the story than someone else write it. After all the real world doesn't end so why should Got ?
The reason why a "smart lawyer" can't tie it up is because George can't enter into a contract with people who haven't been born yet. At some point in time, somebody will inherit ownership of his copyright, and there will be no contract to force them to treat the intellectual property in any particular way. The only way to get around it, would be for George to get his kids to sign a contract before he dies, then George's kids get their kids to sign contracts before they die and so on, and so on. But any person in the chain might just refuse to ask their kids to sign contracts and there's nothing that George can do about it, because he and his lawyer will be dead.
@@itsbonkerjojo9028 Honestly Tolkien finished his work and more. Some of his lore books like the Silmarillion weren't officially finished, even then the stories and information is there. Even prior to the Silmarillion, Tolkien intentionally included an appendix with the history of Middle Earth in LOTR. He gave us everything we wanted and more. A more accurate example would be Robert Jordan, who died midway through writing his Wheel of Time series. His story had to be finished by another author. George needs to get the book out eventually.

OneTwoMark It's because the show is more big, I'm not saying it's better than the books just more big. Deniz Puolamäki my greatest fear is that he dies before that, even more is if I die before the series ends
I love the heart GRRM show's here, but I worry that he will pass before he finishes his story.
Roberto Valente George has already said he knows how it will end and has told the the writers for the show, so his death won't change anything.
Roberto Valente that's true, but that's what I was talking about. The books, I mean.
He also told people that start speculating his death and health to go and fuck off.
unlikely since he said the books will be released this year or the next and he will live that long I think
the books and show are going to have relatively similar endings for major characters.
He's right his work will eventually fall into these cash mongering asshats in suits and that terrifies me this series deserve the respect they have earned through fire and blood

The show has already hit the fan fiction level. It still looks great though...

'Sauron strikes Back' featuring special guests Donald Trump and Kim Kardashian as Shelob and Galadriel
So would I... had Tolkien written it.
I really liked Tuff Voyaging and The Sand Kings. A song of Ice and Fire is fun but I also enjoy a lot of his short science fiction works.
You also in the book club?
reminds me of Hemingway who asked in his will that all of his unfinished works be destroyed, instead his family published everything

Watch "Sauron Strikes Back", every thursday exclusively on Amazon Prime Video
I mean...technically LOTR is Sauron Strikes Back. He was already defeated in the Second Age and then came back again in the third

That's where I see George now. I hope he can btrak through it.
I can't believe he was in Australia and I missed it.
Positive thing is when his rights expires then maybe someone will finish saga
Dude, if George dies tomorrow, it will take another 70 years for the rights to expire. We'll be lucky if we're still alive by then.
0:55 abominations like game of thrones
I cannot for the life of me understand how book readers can expect the show to be as good as the books considering the writers have to write a season in 6 months and George has 5-6 years. Don’t be naive. It will never be as good as the books from here on out. Stop whining and if you don’t like the show then don’t fucking watch it.
I don't think he will ever finish the series, not even Winds of Winter. Not because he will die - he isn't really that old - but because he just has no idea how to collapse the sprawling mess of a narrative he created after Book 3.
I HOPE THAT BEFore GM passes on we find out what his tax policy is.
Finish the book George.
D&D ruined his story. First 4 seasons were good, 5-7 were awful. Season 8 will be just Hollywood.
5 was the best one I think. But we all have our opinions...
4 was the best
Ruined is too strong a word.....as is awful. While season 7 had problems, it wasn't awful. And it was easily fixed.
Sorry for the typos, I wrote it while driving. :)

Metal Perception season 7 just felt like lotr. I still enjoyed it and all of the ex machina, but it's just not game of thrones.
... And Christopher Tolkien died and boom! The Rings of Power!
Too old...
The pizzas are coming, dont worry they are coming, they are on the way, they gonna be amazyng.
some could say he already said goodby by letting the generic writers ruin the enitre show with season 7 and 8
Dude put an end to this books and the series, move on.
And why would he do that ?
rings of power=sauron strikes back?
Christopher Tolkien milking his father's work
Georgie, you're never gonna finish. Justn accept it
lol that's right george, you get to see the abomination your work has been adapted to whilst you're still alive haha lucky you
Finish the damn books George. Do you want to end up like Talkein who didnt finish his work ?
Who is Talkein & what work of him is incomplete.... if you could share more information
If this Hippie would have write the story instead of crawling stoned from comicon to commicon, we would have a better season 7.
