Your video was perfect for a seasoned carpenter. But for a novice, I would have liked to see the holes drilled to mount the posts, and the bolts used to secure them to the deck. Wouldn't you need a drywall type anchor in the hole before attaching the lag bolt? I never understood how these posts could be secured properly into fake wood, without a bolt through the top with a nut attached under the deck.
The fake wood is not structural. The screws are long enough to go directly into the joists underneath, which are typically 2X8. The deck needs to be designed to have joists exactly where those four screws line up.
Nice work guys.Iim about to put the same railing up .lDid you guys build your deck to match the length llllf railing 😂. I noticed that nothing was cut.
@@CurtAllen-fn5gr been awhile so I can’t remember honestly. I don’t think so tho. When I cut these rails I use a metal blade in my miter saw but I saw all with a metal blade will work also. Just put some tape around the area you’ll be cutting to protect from scratching it
Can you use a strap or tie down to keep the railings together. Wrap each side and ratchet it until in place then remove strap. It might work. Nice job guys!!
Do you travel? Like to PA, 30 miles N of Philly? I and putting down 650 sq.ft Trex Foggy Wharf and 32' of railing. Material arrived in 2 weeks. You available?
@@adventuresofahandyman4446 I will pay travel, expenses and put you both up. One day travel up$$, 2-3 days work$$$ one day travel back$$$. Deck is stripped, I am looking at frame. All trex will be on site delivered along with railings. It might be a good job!
These are called Afco series 100 but I think I'm going to start trying to sell rails from home fortress. These rails are nice bit scratch to easily in my opinion and the home fortress are much easy to install. Especially the stair rails. I put blocking under the post so that all bolts are secured in 2 by material. Thanks for watching!
great video. i have a similar situation @3:08 of your video where my post lands on the split of my picture framing. Is that safe and okay to drill the screws there for the post? Does it still have a good support on the post? Appreciate your feedback. Thanks
@@adventuresofahandyman4446 thanks a lot for your reply. i wasn't too sure when i tried installing my railings yesterday so when i stumbled upon your video, it gave me hope that I can install them in that split section of picture framing. i thought it woudn't have enough bite to it or might ruin the edge of the board. I do have a 6x6 as blocking underneath but it seems to me that you are landing the first post screw on the rim board itself right? 3/4" from the corner? not in the blocking after the rim? thanks again for your support.
@@adventuresofahandyman4446 What does your states Labor and Industry compliance officers say about Tying off? OSHA? Anything greater than 6 ft. you must tie-off? Tie or die!!

Definitely. Thats the 1st time I've had 1 come apart like that actually. Thanks!
Did you have to add wood blocking underneath the composite deck where those aluminum posts are mounted? Did not notice in the video…
What Post are you using and where can I find them? Been looking for aluminum post instead of sleeve and not having any luck.
Great Video. Nice Job!

Sweet deck sir!!! We are installing those rails currently as well on our deck project!!!
Awesome! Good luck
Hey man, you won the hat! Send me your address to jmjackson911@yahoo.com and I'll get it to you.
Finally uninstalled video that shows how you actually attached the posts!
What kind of railings do you use? Do you have to have a joist under all 4 corner screw holes of the post to secure the posts?

@@adventuresofahandyman4446 thank you for that Detail no other videos I can find show how those are actually attached they skip right over it
I use straps on the handrails before standing them in place its always worked
Thanks for including the difficulty you had near the end. It's real.

Thanks. It’s fine to attach the post there. There is 2x material beneath the deck birds that give the strength

WHAT BRAND RAILING IS THIS
Quality work, it nice to get jobs next door to each other. Did you get the job through property management company or by customer ?
Thanks. The 1st customer referred me to the 2 neighbors. We've built 7 in this neighborhood now. Word spreads fast
I’m sad.
Saw this about a year after posted. But still helped me in learning how to install rail on my deck. 👍🏻
You worried me walking on the unprotected deck. You really need fall protection.
True but I promise it looks alot worse on camera

Referrals ,testament to quality work at a fair price, no doubt !
Yep. We must be doing something right. That was #7 in that neighborhood

Got it. Thanks!
Pretty work!
Thanks!
Is this for the hat giveaway?
Nice job!
Thanks!
You don’t show the actual construction of the rails
I had the same thought about using a ratchet strap. Good looking railing!
Thanks!
Great job !!!
Thanks!
Love that hat
Thanks!
I thought code was no more then 6 feet between posts?
At least not in my area. I’ve had them inspected at 10’
Depends on the rating of the railing.
I’ll pretend like Sawyer didn’t hurt my feelings...
Hope you are paying Sawyer!! She is great!!!
