Replacing a smurf door with a full size door
Looks good but dude am I the only one that thingks those screws look like garbage? Maybe because its four years ago, they hjave hidden screws that blend in, your screws even don't look flush. Deck looks good though
Thanks ao much for this.
Don’t build a composite deck. I have had a wooden deck for 31 years. my wife put 2 coats of paint on it 15 years ago and it still has not rotted away. I just stripped. It down and all the boards are sound except for 2 which I am about to replace and then repaint. The trex decking has its own set of problems. At a cost of 4 times more this is a no brainer since you use the same wooden joists no matter what decking you use. The trex even scratches easily and you can’t sand it out as on a wood deck.
Pretty sure u can use math. Its just like a hip rafter. Substitute 17 instead of 12 fir diagonal number.
Hello! Do I need to buy ALL the books? I have the 2024 IRC book. Is this OK? I already passed the law portion.
I wish I could find more videos about expanding a deck outwards away from a house. This is the only one I’ve seen.
Nice work guys.Iim about to put the same railing up .lDid you guys build your deck to match the length llllf railing 😂. I noticed that nothing was cut.
@@CurtAllen-fn5gr been awhile so I can’t remember honestly. I don’t think so tho. When I cut these rails I use a metal blade in my miter saw but I saw all with a metal blade will work also. Just put some tape around the area you’ll be cutting to protect from scratching it
Nice water holder
The joists are basically on blocking lol. Why would the picture frame act any different ?
Nice worck
Is a bamboo deck considered wood? Would you still choose composite over bamboo? I live in Northern CA. It does get hot in the summer, but no humidity.
Didn't cover the floors, didn't cover floor vent, outswing door would be better, use PVC board instead of wood again to rot. Dude i hope you improve your skills since then.

Thinking on the fly sets apart the pros from the rest great job
Irritating video guys
Why would anyone want to build a composite deck that your dog can't even walk on in August?
Such an honest and cool guy...
You need to be very careful what you say because some idiots my catch you and do something to you
I can not tell you enough how helpful this video is. Thank you, thank you, thank you for taking the time out of your day to make this.
That's not the right way to lay trex. Your butting round edges to squared edges
Good evening. Do you have an email so I can ask you some questions about the South Carolina residential building exam.
Funny thing im going to replace 2 sets of French doors like that a set on each side of a fire place just like that , I'm going to try to use 72" door in a 60" opining i think i can do it
Thanks for including the difficulty you had near the end. It's real.
Do you have to pay every time you retake the test?
I really can’t remove
Thank you
Good work
Thanks!
Your friend who lent you the John Deer is the real MVP 😅 Looking forward to seeing the garden progress!
For sure! If I can ever get my girls thru college I’ll have one of my own 🥴
Started a trex repair recently, never again, I’d say 4x price for material, 3x time to install time and everything has to be perfect under that “dumb tech” or your Guna have a wavy ass deck, oh lol…. And let’s not forget the time you spend plugging holes…. If a costumer wats trex everyone over quote so we can all go back to using wood like God intended
What books did you refer to for the business and law test?
Man I’d have to look. Seems like it was specific to South Carolina. I let a friend borrow the books. I check with him
I'm getting ready to take this test in a couple of days. Your insights have confirmed what I've heard from others about it, that its mostly about the code book. Hope I can do it one and done. Thanks buddy
Good luck!
How’d it go?
have a double door going from kitchen to sunroom with one door being fixed. already removed door that opens. is it possible to remove fixed door without removing entire frame? Thanks!
I live in Michigan and I am about to take this test with PSI, so far best information I have gotten. Appreciate it man.
Existing deck poorly built. Start over. Use 6x6 and notch. Those little 2x4 attached to 4x4 doesn't cut it.
Thanks for the transparency. This was really helpful
Hey there! I commented on a few other videos; welcome back!!! I'm also here in SC and I am looking for help finding the right test to take and some other quick general questions. Would you be up for a call/email/text/etc? Thank you!!!
Sure. Let’s start with email. Jmjackson911@yahoo.com
@@adventuresofahandyman4446sent!Thank you
Definitely like)). This video is 10% to succeed in the test. Load of very positive information...
Did you have to add wood blocking underneath the composite deck where those aluminum posts are mounted? Did not notice in the video…
is there a way i can connect with you via email or something. i dont use facebook. i live (born and raised)in the upstate of SC and have had my business like you had for about 9 months, doing well. I have clients asking for bigger jobs now and would like to ask you some questions regarding operating in SC pertaining to LLR and what limitations you ran into. i would really apprecaite it. im not nervous about the work itself, im confident in that. im concerned about LLR, permiting etc. would really really appreciate it.
i do have acess to facebook through family members if we need to initiate that way. i know nobody wants to post a number or email on a YT comment
Your video was perfect for a seasoned carpenter. But for a novice, I would have liked to see the holes drilled to mount the posts, and the bolts used to secure them to the deck. Wouldn't you need a drywall type anchor in the hole before attaching the lag bolt? I never understood how these posts could be secured properly into fake wood, without a bolt through the top with a nut attached under the deck.
The fake wood is not structural. The screws are long enough to go directly into the joists underneath, which are typically 2X8. The deck needs to be designed to have joists exactly where those four screws line up.
Thanks for all your videos; they have been very helpful. Do you have a Facebook handyman or inspection platform?
I can't believe 2 years has gone by. Thanks for the update.
Been in construction 30 years. How can i get into inspections?
Awesome update! Thanks for sharing. Seems like just yesterday you were taking the leap to going on your own as a Handyman...can't believe you're "Two years as a home inspector". Time flies.
So good to see you again! I was always just a lurker on your videos but I loved following you and have missed you for sure! Glad you are doing well! Thanks for getting us caught up! Blessings to you and your family!
Dude!! It’s great to see you again!!!! New idea for the channel-video document your inspections. It’s always good to know what to look out for. Adventures of a Home Inspector!!!!
As a former small business owner I can tell you nobody, but nobody wants to work they want TOP $$$ and not only refuse to do the work but they just don’t show up!! Nobody wants to work their way up anymore!
There are no young people eager to learn a trade. Most of them will end up living in parents basement and work part time as an elevator operator pushing buttons😂😂😂
Not even close. Go ahead and keep thinkin that though! lmaoo
I miss your handyman videos. I am happy to see how well you are doing. Maybe you can do some home inspection videos down the road.
I became a home inspector, as well after starting down the handyman path. I love it.
glad to hear from you! Super glad you’ve made it through the last year!
