I don’t think that Niao Niao forgives her, just the way she mourns the empress. She doesn’t actually talks to her mom, and her mother touches her hand on episode 54, or 55.
Never have I seen a drama where the FL stands up for herself when she knows she's in the right and has done nothing wrong, especially towards parents. This is what needs to be shown and celebrated. It was quite empowering to see her honesty and her analysis of the situation, and to see her brothers and the Third Aunt support her too. If we weren't shown in earlier episodes that Niao Niao really is her mother's daughter, I seriously would have believed Yang Yang's the actual daughter and they got swapped or sth. 😠
a big salute to NN for backing up her maidservant with her verbal analysis. it shows how mature she is for a 15 years old lady. i do not like the mother at all. she treats her own blood worse than treating a stepdaughter. she might love her but all the executions are absolutely wrong. she needs to take mother-love 101 training multiple times. yike... the cousin's maids are bloody vile.

And that is why she doesn't like Niao Niao. Which is sad, because as her father said, she is clever like her mother.
I love how Niao Niao stood up for herself & how her aunt & brothers defended her.🥰The aunt is my new favorite character. I love how she saved the day with her "stomachache" & leveled with her mom. She knows how to resolve the situation peacefully while saving face for the mom. She's kind and intelligent. 30:57 How dare those ladies call Niao Niao uneducated, yet she was solving riddles while they stood there, perplexed like clowns.
I'm glad she at least have her brothers to stand up for her now. If they weren't there, the mom wouldn't listen to anything Niao Niao says and blame her for the desk. The mom even let the Yang Yang's servant go without punishment. When Niao Niao speaks the truth about how the mom plays favorites the mom wanted to shut her up with punishment. They need to get rid of the cousin's servants
I agree. Her brothers were fantastic...they called her out on all her crap...and she couldn't stand it. She didn't think she was going to have any opposition to her unfair treatment of Niao Niao...the best part is watching Niao Niao defending herself...and shutting her down. I can't stand this woman. She hasn't treated her daughter fairly since she returned. She knowingly allowed her own daughter to suffer so she could use it as leverage in order to drive a wedge between mother and son. Now she's opening punishing her daughter...and blaming the actions of her maidservant on her...while excusing the actions of Yang Yang's maidservants...and refusing to allow Yang Yang to take responsibility for their actions. The mother from hell has already lost her daughter's respect at this point.

This show is breaking all kinds of records...and that's because of her/Leo Wu....it wouldn't have been the same without her as the lead. I definitely understand your opinion....I love her...so I will watch any series she's in.
Every time Niao Niao's mother ignored her and gave attention to her cousin's sister, idk why my heart felt the pain. I am happy that she stood up for herself and other family members were with her!!!
This mother is getting on my last nerve. The fact that she knows that her daughter was mistreated and wasn't taught anything but still criticize her for not knowing is bs.
She did punish the second aunt by making her housebound so she could never go anywhere without her permission. But yeah, it is irritating the hell out of me that she keeps favoring Yang Yang and finding fault with Niao Niao. Niao Niao is acting the way she is because she is love starved after being a virtual prisoner for years and she is defensive and goes against her mother because her own mother literally won't defend her so she has to defend herself.
I already really liked Niao Niao but this episode made me absolutely love her! The way she stood up for herself and pointed out the unfair treatment of her mother was so satisfying and brilliant! Thank god she has her brothers and aunt to finally give her some love now because how she's grown up so far is so sad. Her mother infuriates me, how badly she treats her own daughter after being away from her her whole life and the blatant favouritism she shows Yang Yang. Ugh, I don't know what she could do at this point to redeem herself. Also, I love how she basically made three guys all fall for her in one night haha. Can't wait to see more of her with each of them, especially the main guy!
Niao Niao already had Buyi's love but she made the other 2 guys fall head over heels in love with her. I love the fact despite Niao Niao's mother favoritism toward Yang Yang. Niao Niao loves her and protects her at all costs.
I agree. The mother from hell couldn't stand hearing the truth. Niao Niao wasn't holding back...she's done trying to please her mother especially since she knows nothing she does will ever be good enough for her. The best part is when she called her out on her favoritism...being disguised as fairness....from that moment on she had no leg to stand on.

The part where Niao Niao’s so-called mom decided to take Yang Yang around the Lantern Festival and offered to get the hairpin as well, was my breaking point 😢💔Because I could sadly relate to that so much and that part just hit me and hurt so bad. I’m just glad that Niao Niao’s brothers noticed and cared for her!!
It's extra sad when you remember it's NN's first lantern festival too, and her mother knows that and still did that right in front of her. I'm so happy her brothers are there for her! Her 3rd Aunt is the heroine in this tale too, I adore her character throughout the entire show.
The mom thinks she is being fair. Mom does not have a concept of fairness, especially when she did it because it is Yangyang's first time st the Lantern festival, which in iincidentally is also Shaoshang's, yet she only asked Yangyang.
Yang Yang grew up with a bad mom like that but was treasured and well loved by her father and maternal extended family and happened to never go to the lantern festival. Niao Niao was neglected and abused and starved for affection, knowledge and food and that was why she had never been to the lantern festival. Her mom’s reasoning is wrong and it was so heartbreaking that everyone can understand Niao Niao here but her mom
I love how this scene comes back to bite her later in the series. The writers of this series deserve a bow. How they draw the parallel and make the mom realise her mistakes!
I envy Niao Niao's ability to speak her mind in an eloquent manner against her mother. For me I would just let my emotions take over and end up stuttering or crying over something that i'm wrongly accused for. I wish I had her way of thinking and ability to speak it.
I can sense the first time Zisheng met Naioniao and he saw her hand pointing at the hay, Zisheng already caught his attention. Now, Zishen clearly sees Niaoniao's beautiful face, and he was mesmerized by her. How sweet. 🥰
Am I the only one who gets goosebumps at 45:24 , when Ling Buyi slowly turns back to look at shaoshang, while everything is ON FIRE, BURNING DOWN behind him (also with the background music). Kind of signifies Ling Buyi's personality and his burning vengeance, yet how his expression softens when he looks at the girl he loves. The exact moment he decided that there would be no one in his life other than her (he tells this later). The cinematography here is excellent because this - saving the girl from fire - kind of scenes are common in love stories yet somehow this doesn't look cheesy like the others. Fire blazing, snow falling, calm Ling buyi with his cape blowing out. sufficiently dramatic and Very picturesque. Can't help re-watching.
it was seconds of their meeting but it felt like an eternity, I repeated that scene so many times I cant count because I cant get enough of the main couple together omg it was beautiful, I can’t wait for them to be together !!!
Yes I rewatch it many times as well, even though she did not see him but the way he looks and watch her is so beautiful, Leo Wu really brings that scene to life it makes you feel how he feels, so sweet.

24:55 the way he stares at her, he's already enamored and enraptured by her giddy skipping around. Its so nice to see NN having a good time for once! If you watch closely from the time he looks at her to when it shows her and then back to him, his eyebrows slowly relax and his eyes soften 🥰 That's some great acting cause you know the two of them weren't even on the same set at the same time!!
Their "first" official meeting at the lantern festival is so beautiful. Will always be one of the best scenes in this series. Glad that I started this drama!
I like that Niao Niao is still kind and caring to her cousin. Most children in life and movies start to hate not only the parent but also the 1 the parent favors. Niao's mother reminds me so much of my mother, I couldn't get close to my father for nothing, she used to call me all kinds of bad things, every time she would tell me (you want a whipping or kneeling down in the corner), I always pick azz whopping because even though they were brutal at times they only lasted less than 5 minutes and then the bruises would fade and the stinging of the switches would go away after a day...
24:33 General Li forgot to breath when he finally saw Fourth Lady Cheng since he only got to see her hand at first meeting. 45:23 when he realized that he just found "the one" and got to carry her close to his heart.
No wonder he stops breathing. He sees a young, playful creature, sincerely rejoicing in the surrounding holiday, looking with curiosity at the world around him. Her appearance and behavior do not match the level of intelligence, pragmatism and prudence that she has demonstrated before. He really liked their correspondence interaction - she is his equal/challenging. This contrasts so much with those cutesy, arrogant and narrow-minded (for all their education and upbringing) girls with whom he is familiar. And the fact that she exposes the trick of his "bride" is an additional bonus.
Zhao LuSi has become an amazing actress. Her ability to actually change character for the role really stands out on this performance. Her smile lights up the stage regardless of what role she plays.
Niao Niao's fierce defense of herself was epic. The best part was watching her brothers defend her. The mother from hell wasn't expecting any resistance from them...she thought they were going to just sit back and accept her unfair treatment. I'm glad Niao Niao called her out....and exposed her favoritism that she was trying to disguise as fairness. Once Niao Niao figured out that she couldn't depend on her mother...it was a wrap she wasn't going to tolerate her mother's unfair treatment especially after she found out that her mother cose to let her suffer at the hands of her grandmother and aunt...so she could use it as leverage to drive a wedge between mother and son. Niao Niao isn't going to buckle under pressure...and she isn't going to allow her mother to suppress her. The mother from hell strikes again. She openly rebukes her daughter..and blames her for the actions of her maidservant...while shielding Yang Yang from responsibility for her maidservants actions. When Niao Niao calls her out...she wants to get upset. She didn't mind punishing her openly...to prove a point....yet she wants to punish Yang Yang's maidservants in private to protect Yang Yang's reputation. Niao Niao calling her out was the only thing she could do at this point....because she's never going to admit she's wrong...and she's never going to stop trying to belittle her. The third aunt is a rock star...she called her out big time and had the nerve to tell her that she deserved to be scolded by her children. She was right....the mother from hell was all types of wrong..and she deserved to be called out in public...since she wanted to humiliate Niao Niao in public it's only right that she returned the favor...with Niao Niao's personality if her mother doesn't change her approach...she's never going to forgive her...and it's exactly what needs to happen because she doesn't deserve Niao Niao's forgiveness.

There are mothers that are far worse, so while you think she's super evil, I think she's trying albeit wrongly but there's room for improvement. And her mom is smart she will figure it out, niao niao is a handful.

She wasn't trying to save Yang Yang...if she wanted to save face for Yang Yang...she could've handled things differently. She already admitted that she knew Yang Yang's maidservants were in the wrong...so she should've punished them directly instead of trying to do it privately. This way she would've been fair to Yang Yang and Niao Niao. She openly blamed Niao Niao for the actions of her maidservants...but when Yang Yang tried to take responsibility for the actions of her maidservants...she told her that it wasn't her fault. This little act was designed to punish Naio Niao...she wasn't expecting Niao Niao to defend herself or that her brothers would also defend her. Instead of being fair...she chose to show favoritism towards Yang Yang...which is something she's been doing for a while now...which is why Yang Yang's servants had no misgivings about the stunt they pulled...they knew she would protect their little miss. This woman is bound and determined to crush Niao Niao's spirit...and she's using military tactics to do it. She claims that she's being fair...but yet she openly rebuked her daughter but she decided to punish the maidservants in private....How is that fair? She knowingly left her daughter in a toxic environment because she wanted leverage over her mother and sister in law. She knew Niao Niao was suffering and never once did it occur to her...to step up and save her daughter. She chose to use Niao Niao's suffering as a weapon to drive a wedge between mother and son. She's horrible...Niao Niao was right she's trying to disguise her favoritism towards Yang Yang and calling it fair.

Her methods are cruel...and bound to backfire on her.
This drama is just superb. They have the shortest moment/scene together but whenever they meet it makes us wanting for more. That seconds seems like forever. Im so hook. The director, writer and the main leads did a great job.
I’m proud of Niao Niao I had to replay the scene when she defend her self and called out her mother. I’m happy her brothers and aunt got her back especially her brothers
🌸 It’s just beautiful to watch as the hardened face of Ling Buyi starts to soften as his eyes notice Shaoshang. He develops a soft little smile and his face relaxes the more he watched her. It was so subtle…..totally believable. You could really feel it. Excellent work by the actor. 👏
Zhao Luis plays the role of Niao Niao perfectly. The way she looks hungrily at her mother when the latter buys pear pins for Yang Yang & holds her hand, or that child like fascination as she looks at all the lanterns, or the way she solves the puzzle, Zhao Luis aces each of those moments. The moment with the General was underwhelming bc he just walks away.
Well she's ignored her sufferings for years because she wanted leverage in order to drive a wedge between her husband and his mother...so of course showing favoritism and disguising it as fairness is par for the course...she doesn't care about being fair to her daughter...she's been belittling her since she returned. She's pissed off that Niao Niao has adapted some of her character traits from her grandmother and second aunt....so she's trying to beat it out of her...when she's the one responsible for the way her daughter turned out...because she never once tried to intervene when she found out that her daughter was being mistreated...she allowed it to continue for years...so this is all on her.
Am I the only that can see that Yang Yang has no one to back her up? Did the brother back her up or gift her stuff? Nope. Niao Niao's mom may be wrong blaming her here, but still she's adapting her child rearing according to each of their needs.

She knew Madam Cheng was going to protect Yang Yang from the fallout/blame Niao Niao...which is exactly what happened. Her brothers were separated from her for 15 yrs...and the gave her the stuff they collected for her over the years...it wasn't about favoritism...it was about showing love to their sister...unlike Madam Cheng. Her brothers didn't know that Yang Yang was going to be staying with the Cheng family...because she was raised by her aunt...so of course they wouldn't shower her with gifts. There is no need for the brothers to back up Yang Yang because they overheard their mother speaking highly of her/disparaging Niao Niao. The only reason the brothers continue to stick up for Niao Niao is because she's alone right now with no parental backing. Her mother favors Yang Yang...and her father does whatever his wife tells him. Madam Cheng tried to use this situation as a means to suppress Niao Niao...but it backfired because Niao Niao called her out on trying to disguise her favoritism and calling it fairness. She even decided to privately punish Yang Yang's maids while openly punishing Niao Niao...how is that fair? According to madam Cheng...Yang Yang isn't responsible for her maids actions while Niao Niao was being blamed for her maids actions. This entire situation was handled poorly/only showed madam Cheng's inability to treat her daughter fairly.
YY was raised and educated lovingly by her Aunt and grandfather. She has no shortage of basics and things like clothes, hairpins, books, ink etc. Everyone can see that NN is starving 'materially', that's why the brothers showered her with stuff.
Now, this episode I liked, a lot!! Mostly because she finally stood up to her mother, and put her in her place, by telling her about herself? And the brothers, sister-cousin, aunt! They circle the wagon around her...Quick; And showed her their support!🥰 And now we get to the good stuff... The courting!!
The mother is entirely too exhausting at this point. CSS just told poured out her heart and soul before her mother. Yet it didn't even move her mother a bit which is so sad.
She's thinking to get everything straighten up in just days... she forgot that to CSS she's mom just in names... she wasn't there when her child is going through hell... the protection she needed was never provided... parenting is not like military discipline... where everyone must obey... she needs to be her Mother 1st than her teacher!

When Shaoshang first meet Yao and Yuan, she was not interest in both of them. When Zisheng saves her, she is interest in him. He was the one got her attention❤❤ I will never get tired of rewatching their love story!!!
The funniest thing about this episode was how the mother said she wanted to be fair yet was going to punish the servants in secret. Like if she does that other servants/people will not know that she punished them, perpetuating their bad behaviors towards niao niao. Her reasoning behind it also shows blatant favoritism cause she wanted to “save face” for Yang Yang at the dispense of her daughter. Ugh she needs to listen to what people around her are advising her. Her way of “parenting” is so horrible. If she was my mother I’d despise her too. She needs to know that in order to parent your child, you need to build an emotional connection with them first instead of jumping to straight punishment, especially after being an absentee for 10 years of their life
Way way above some of the current actresses who are popular only for their beauty and minimal acting abilities. Too many depend on repeated facial expressions, getting same type of roles over and over again. Not really honing their talent but becoming lazy and relying too much on their fan base.
Zhao lusi (Niao Niao), she's everything ♥️ .when she said "If I don't fight for myself, I will be billed for the whole of my life " Brave enough to fight for her right even though her mother doesn't love her, am happy for her apart from her mother the rest do love her alot her brothers, her third aunt 💓, dad. Yes, I love the third aunt...I love that she's not scared to call her out. The mother from hell deserves a swift kick in the butt at this point. She's doing more harm than good.
This is the first time NIao Niao is absolutely justified in her rebellion and anger towards her mother, and where her mother is in the wrong. She was mature and used her brain properly, instead of the scheming. After Yang Yang began to stay with them the favouritism began the aunt is the perfect voice of reason, she can obviously see that Niao Niao needs to be disciplined, however she can see that her mother needs to do it in a better while also nurturing her. This episode and the end of last episode are the only times people can actually call her a bad mother, she should give Niao Niao confidence and punish those maid's publicly, it makes her correct discipline of Niao Niao in the previous episodes useless, because now she will think it was favouritism when it was well deserved. Also girl, you could literally get her interested to learn by incorporating her like for buildings things.
Way to go Niao Niao! The script really captures the audience in this episode, I love how she uses wit, logic and reasoning to teach her mother a lesson!
I am watching this drama for the third time and still like it ..Mr. General fell in love for niao niao from hearing her voice itself ❤️ and now he is totally into her once he saw her 💞💞💞...Her life's First hug is from him ..its so romantic and sweet....👩❤️👨
Ahhh, rewatching this at 31:31 when Yao says very few people can beat Mr. Yuan sets the tone for this whole show! I love rewatching these shows and catching more and more things you missed the first time around.
Everyone keeps talking about the brothers and the aunt but not enough about YangYang. She stood up for Niao Niao as well the best she could. She’s also living with trauma from her mom’s abuse. Can’t wait to see how their (YangYang and Niao Niao) relationship grows because it seems that they don’t fault each other

Niao Niao’s brothers can see through their mum’s unfairness towards Niao Niao. It’s a blessing they’re such sensitive, considerate and bright young men who love their sister and try to give her the love their mum denies her.
I have gone through something similar . I can relate to what she is going through because at the end of she isn't strong she will never get satisfied when she meets good people who treat her well on her journey of life.
All I can say is man the music director was certainly not phoning it in for this series. They deserve an award. And the editor. Many of the moments people praise would not have worked if all the departments were off even the slightest. I had the rewatch the the first sight scene just to appreciate those edits. Had anyone been sleeping on the job that would have been a very different scene.
Mother doesn’t give Niao Niao credit for being clever and able to assess a situation very quickly, despite not being book smart. Mother finds it much easier to respect Yang Yang. Niao Niao’s realistic assessment of her mother’s feelings towards her is spot on and she accepts it even though it hurts her tremendously. And even though she’s not book smart, she expresses herself very intelligently.
The new years festival was done beautifully major respect to the workmen and electricians and wardrobe people who made it so beautiful and warm and magic like :)
14:40 argh-the FL’s mother continues to infuriate me!- I’m so glad the FLhas her brothers now, and at least the cousin also seems genuinely fair and kind. The FL was so right with her. Is hit analogy- the mother is just fixated with her days as a General in the army and is upset to be called out and shown her flawed logic and decisions. She needs to realise she’s a mother here, not a soldier in command, who’s orders and decking are being questioned(which in times of war can be problematic obviously) Side note: one thing I love is that I’m Thai series, women can be soldiers and generals!

I did not think I could like a series more than “Who Rules The World” with Zhao Luis & Yang Yang or “You Are My Glory” with Dilraba Dilmurat & Yang Yang but shows that touch on family dynamics and particularly the relationships between maternal figures and their daughters / grand daughters always tug at my heart and gut strings. Disney’s Encanto went there as well and it resonated with so many people around the world. Women - we just have so much healing to do! 🤗 Massive hugs to all the women around the world who are cycle breakers and healing from old family trauma. 🤗❤️🤗❤️🤗❤️

Never have I seen a drama where the FL stands up for herself when she knows she's in the right and has done nothing wrong, especially towards parents. This is what needs to be shown and celebrated. It was quite empowering to see her honesty and her analysis of the situation, and to see her brothers and the Third Aunt support her too. If we weren't shown in earlier episodes that Niao Niao really is her mother's daughter, I seriously would have believed Yang Yang's the actual daughter and they got swapped or sth. 😠
a big salute to NN for backing up her maidservant with her verbal analysis. it shows how mature she is for a 15 years old lady.
i do not like the mother at all. she treats her own blood worse than treating a stepdaughter. she might love her but all the executions are absolutely wrong. she needs to take mother-love 101 training multiple times.

The mom even let the Yang Yang's servant go without punishment. When Niao Niao speaks the truth about how the mom plays favorites the mom wanted to shut her up with punishment. They need to get rid of the cousin's servants
I agree. Her brothers were fantastic...they called her out on all her crap...and she couldn't stand it. She didn't think she was going to have any opposition to her unfair treatment of Niao Niao...the best part is watching Niao Niao defending herself...and shutting her down. I can't stand this woman. She hasn't treated her daughter fairly since she returned. She knowingly allowed her own daughter to suffer so she could use it as leverage in order to drive a wedge between mother and son. Now she's opening punishing her daughter...and blaming the actions of her maidservant on her...while excusing the actions of Yang Yang's maidservants...and refusing to allow Yang Yang to take responsibility for their actions. The mother from hell has already lost her daughter's respect at this point.

Niao Niao is acting the way she is because she is love starved after being a virtual prisoner for years and she is defensive and goes against her mother because her own mother literally won't defend her so she has to defend herself.

I already really liked Niao Niao but this episode made me absolutely love her! The way she stood up for herself and pointed out the unfair treatment of her mother was so satisfying and brilliant! Thank god she has her brothers and aunt to finally give her some love now because how she's grown up so far is so sad. Her mother infuriates me, how badly she treats her own daughter after being away from her her whole life and the blatant favouritism she shows Yang Yang. Ugh, I don't know what she could do at this point to redeem herself.
Also, I love how she basically made three guys all fall for her in one night haha. Can't wait to see more of her with each of them, especially the main guy!

The part where Niao Niao’s so-called mom decided to take Yang Yang around the Lantern Festival and offered to get the hairpin as well, was my breaking point 😢💔Because I could sadly relate to that so much and that part just hit me and hurt so bad. I’m just glad that Niao Niao’s brothers noticed and cared for her!!
It's extra sad when you remember it's NN's first lantern festival too, and her mother knows that and still did that right in front of her. I'm so happy her brothers are there for her! Her 3rd Aunt is the heroine in this tale too, I adore her character throughout the entire show.
The mom thinks she is being fair. Mom does not have a concept of fairness, especially when she did it because it is Yangyang's first time st the Lantern festival, which in iincidentally is also Shaoshang's, yet she only asked Yangyang.
Yang Yang grew up with a bad mom like that but was treasured and well loved by her father and maternal extended family and happened to never go to the lantern festival. Niao Niao was neglected and abused and starved for affection, knowledge and food and that was why she had never been to the lantern festival. Her mom’s reasoning is wrong and it was so heartbreaking that everyone can understand Niao Niao here but her mom
I love how this scene comes back to bite her later in the series. The writers of this series deserve a bow. How they draw the parallel and make the mom realise her mistakes!

I envy Niao Niao's ability to speak her mind in an eloquent manner against her mother. For me I would just let my emotions take over and end up stuttering or crying over something that i'm wrongly accused for. I wish I had her way of thinking and ability to speak it.

Am I the only one who gets goosebumps at 45:24 , when Ling Buyi slowly turns back to look at shaoshang, while everything is ON FIRE, BURNING DOWN behind him (also with the background music). Kind of signifies Ling Buyi's personality and his burning vengeance, yet how his expression softens when he looks at the girl he loves. The exact moment he decided that there would be no one in his life other than her (he tells this later).
The cinematography here is excellent because this - saving the girl from fire - kind of scenes are common in love stories yet somehow this doesn't look cheesy like the others. Fire blazing, snow falling, calm Ling buyi with his cape blowing out. sufficiently dramatic and Very picturesque. Can't help re-watching.

If you watch closely from the time he looks at her to when it shows her and then back to him, his eyebrows slowly relax and his eyes soften 🥰 That's some great acting cause you know the two of them weren't even on the same set at the same time!!

I like that Niao Niao is still kind and caring to her cousin. Most children in life and movies start to hate not only the parent but also the 1 the parent favors. Niao's mother reminds me so much of my mother, I couldn't get close to my father for nothing, she used to call me all kinds of bad things, every time she would tell me (you want a whipping or kneeling down in the corner), I always pick azz whopping because even though they were brutal at times they only lasted less than 5 minutes and then the bruises would fade and the stinging of the switches would go away after a day...
I had a father who would physically abuse us by hitting with his belt. It happened over 55 years ago but I remember it like very vividly.

Her appearance and behavior do not match the level of intelligence, pragmatism and prudence that she has demonstrated before. He really liked their correspondence interaction - she is his equal/challenging. This contrasts so much with those cutesy, arrogant and narrow-minded (for all their education and upbringing) girls with whom he is familiar. And the fact that she exposes the trick of his "bride" is an additional bonus.

The mother from hell wasn't expecting any resistance from them...she thought they were going to just sit back and accept her unfair treatment. I'm glad Niao Niao called her out....and exposed her favoritism that she was trying to disguise as fairness. Once Niao Niao figured out that she couldn't depend on her mother...it was a wrap she wasn't going to tolerate her mother's unfair treatment especially after she found out that her mother cose to let her suffer at the hands of her grandmother and aunt...so she could use it as leverage to drive a wedge between mother and son. Niao Niao isn't going to buckle under pressure...and she isn't going to allow her mother to suppress her.
The mother from hell strikes again. She openly rebukes her daughter..and blames her for the actions of her maidservant...while shielding Yang Yang from responsibility for her maidservants actions. When Niao Niao calls her out...she wants to get upset. She didn't mind punishing her openly...to prove a point....yet she wants to punish Yang Yang's maidservants in private to protect Yang Yang's reputation. Niao Niao calling her out was the only thing she could do at this point....because she's never going to admit she's wrong...and she's never going to stop trying to belittle her. The third aunt is a rock star...she called her out big time and had the nerve to tell her that she deserved to be scolded by her children. She was right....the mother from hell was all types of wrong..and she deserved to be called out in public...since she wanted to humiliate Niao Niao in public it's only right that she returned the favor...with Niao Niao's personality if her mother doesn't change her approach...she's never going to forgive her...and it's exactly what needs to happen because she doesn't deserve Niao Niao's forgiveness.

This way she would've been fair to Yang Yang and Niao Niao. She openly blamed Niao Niao for the actions of her maidservants...but when Yang Yang tried to take responsibility for the actions of her maidservants...she told her that it wasn't her fault. This little act was designed to punish Naio Niao...she wasn't expecting Niao Niao to defend herself or that her brothers would also defend her. Instead of being fair...she chose to show favoritism towards Yang Yang...which is something she's been doing for a while now...which is why Yang Yang's servants had no misgivings about the stunt they pulled...they knew she would protect their little miss. This woman is bound and determined to crush Niao Niao's spirit...and she's using military tactics to do it. She claims that she's being fair...but yet she openly rebuked her daughter but she decided to punish the maidservants in private....How is that fair? She knowingly left her daughter in a toxic environment because she wanted leverage over her mother and sister in law. She knew Niao Niao was suffering and never once did it occur to her...to step up and save her daughter. She chose to use Niao Niao's suffering as a weapon to drive a wedge between mother and son. She's horrible...Niao Niao was right she's trying to disguise her favoritism towards Yang Yang and calling it fair.

Yang Yang had support but Niao Niao has never experienced a mother's love...or a mother's comforting embrace....but Madame Cheng doesn't care about this...she only cares about turning Niao Niao into a proper young lady. Her methods are cruel...and bound to backfire on her.
This drama is just superb. They have the shortest moment/scene together but whenever they meet it makes us wanting for more. That seconds seems like forever. Im so hook. The director, writer and the main leads did a great job.

Zhao Luis plays the role of Niao Niao perfectly. The way she looks hungrily at her mother when the latter buys pear pins for Yang Yang & holds her hand, or that child like fascination as she looks at all the lanterns, or the way she solves the puzzle, Zhao Luis aces each of those moments. The moment with the General was underwhelming bc he just walks away.
I thought that her mom was just stricter but no she’s behaving awful playing favourites...wtf dont ignore your own daughter like that!!
Well she's ignored her sufferings for years because she wanted leverage in order to drive a wedge between her husband and his mother...so of course showing favoritism and disguising it as fairness is par for the course...she doesn't care about being fair to her daughter...she's been belittling her since she returned. She's pissed off that Niao Niao has adapted some of her character traits from her grandmother and second aunt....so she's trying to beat it out of her...when she's the one responsible for the way her daughter turned out...because she never once tried to intervene when she found out that her daughter was being mistreated...she allowed it to continue for years...so this is all on her.
Am I the only that can see that Yang Yang has no one to back her up? Did the brother back her up or gift her stuff? Nope. Niao Niao's mom may be wrong blaming her here, but still she's adapting her child rearing according to each of their needs.

She knew Madam Cheng was going to protect Yang Yang from the fallout/blame Niao Niao...which is exactly what happened. Her brothers were separated from her for 15 yrs...and the gave her the stuff they collected for her over the years...it wasn't about favoritism...it was about showing love to their sister...unlike Madam Cheng. Her brothers didn't know that Yang Yang was going to be staying with the Cheng family...because she was raised by her aunt...so of course they wouldn't shower her with gifts. There is no need for the brothers to back up Yang Yang because they overheard their mother speaking highly of her/disparaging Niao Niao. The only reason the brothers continue to stick up for Niao Niao is because she's alone right now with no parental backing. Her mother favors Yang Yang...and her father does whatever his wife tells him. Madam Cheng tried to use this situation as a means to suppress Niao Niao...but it backfired because Niao Niao called her out on trying to disguise her favoritism and calling it fairness. She even decided to privately punish Yang Yang's maids while openly punishing Niao Niao...how is that fair? According to madam Cheng...Yang Yang isn't responsible for her maids actions while Niao Niao was being blamed for her maids actions. This entire situation was handled poorly/only showed madam Cheng's inability to treat her daughter fairly.

The mother is entirely too exhausting at this point. CSS just told poured out her heart and soul before her mother. Yet it didn't even move her mother a bit which is so sad.
She's thinking to get everything straighten up in just days... she forgot that to CSS she's mom just in names... she wasn't there when her child is going through hell... the protection she needed was never provided... parenting is not like military discipline... where everyone must obey... she needs to be her Mother 1st than her teacher!

The funniest thing about this episode was how the mother said she wanted to be fair yet was going to punish the servants in secret. Like if she does that other servants/people will not know that she punished them, perpetuating their bad behaviors towards niao niao. Her reasoning behind it also shows blatant favoritism cause she wanted to “save face” for Yang Yang at the dispense of her daughter. Ugh she needs to listen to what people around her are advising her. Her way of “parenting” is so horrible. If she was my mother I’d despise her too. She needs to know that in order to parent your child, you need to build an emotional connection with them first instead of jumping to straight punishment, especially after being an absentee for 10 years of their life

This is the first time NIao Niao is absolutely justified in her rebellion and anger towards her mother, and where her mother is in the wrong. She was mature and used her brain properly, instead of the scheming. After Yang Yang began to stay with them the favouritism began the aunt is the perfect voice of reason, she can obviously see that Niao Niao needs to be disciplined, however she can see that her mother needs to do it in a better while also nurturing her.
This episode and the end of last episode are the only times people can actually call her a bad mother, she should give Niao Niao confidence and punish those maid's publicly, it makes her correct discipline of Niao Niao in the previous episodes useless, because now she will think it was favouritism when it was well deserved. Also girl, you could literally get her interested to learn by incorporating her like for buildings things.

All I can say is man the music director was certainly not phoning it in for this series. They deserve an award. And the editor. Many of the moments people praise would not have worked if all the departments were off even the slightest. I had the rewatch the the first sight scene just to appreciate those edits. Had anyone been sleeping on the job that would have been a very different scene.

Mother finds it much easier to respect Yang Yang.
Niao Niao’s realistic assessment of her mother’s feelings towards her is spot on and she accepts it even though it hurts her tremendously.
And even though she’s not book smart, she expresses herself very intelligently.
The new years festival was done beautifully major respect to the workmen and electricians and wardrobe people who made it so beautiful and warm and magic like :)

14:40 argh-the FL’s mother continues to infuriate me!- I’m so glad the FLhas her brothers now, and at least the cousin also seems genuinely fair and kind. The FL was so right with her. Is hit analogy- the mother is just fixated with her days as a General in the army and is upset to be called out and shown her flawed logic and decisions. She needs to realise she’s a mother here, not a soldier in command, who’s orders and decking are being questioned(which in times of war can be problematic obviously)
Side note: one thing I love is that I’m Thai series, women can be soldiers and generals!

I did not think I could like a series more than “Who Rules The World” with Zhao Luis & Yang Yang or “You Are My Glory” with Dilraba Dilmurat & Yang Yang but shows that touch on family dynamics and particularly the relationships between maternal figures and their daughters / grand daughters always tug at my heart and gut strings. Disney’s Encanto went there as well and it resonated with so many people around the world.
