Didn't expect to see this today!! I'm glad you both enjoyed the song. Also, Markos resignment came as a shock to us all but I wish him all the happiness and love he deserves. After working in the industry as long as he has, I completely understand his decision. P.S to Wolf: As far as I know Floor never performed Swanheart. Same goes for Marko and Pharoah Sails To Orion.

Marko is 55. Everyone deserves a rest.
And the thing is that Floor was feeling a little ill during that show. She wasn't at her optimum self, yet she still killed it.

@@ArtMateurMusic she's a pro's pro and it's a testament to the power of her voice and her technical skill. She has so much overhead that dialing it back a little is still better than 80% of other vocalists out there.
You know... When Neil Peart of Rush lost his daughter and wife within 10 months of each other, he said he was done and Rush disbanded. Five years later he had healed and felt like he was ready to go again and Rush had a late career renaissance and hit a new height of popularity by the time he retired in 2015. You never know what life will bring, and maybe in time Marko (and Jukka too) will feel ready to work with Nightwish onstage again. So don't despair. At least we still have him alive and well, and a back catalog to enjoy.
I absolutely love how perfectly Marko portrays the role of the Devil, it's almost like it was written for him even though he wasn't in the band yet. Absolutely great!
If anyone has earned the right to sit on the porch , rock in his chair and drink beer, it's Marko. He has spent about 40 yrs working his butt off. He needs a rest! How long will this "rest" last? Well...the NW bunch LOVE each other. Marko's soul is made of music, he will explode if he doesn't have an outlet. The Beast, The Buzzard, The Vampyre, they all need feeding.
I have to hope that Marko is mulling things over, thinking hard. I think he will be rewriting the rule book. He may be finding ways to make life better for other musicians. He KNOWS the business! I think that the corporations better step carefully, because he won't be making the rules to accommodate them.
Having said that...my heart yearns for him to perform the new album with the band, the way his voice soars with Floor...Marko makes the back of my knees go damp. Selfishly, I want him back with the band.
Realistically, he needs this time off to restructure, rethink, relax...have no stress. But...he has a bone to pick with the business. And he will come out of his corner swinging.
If he cuts his hair it will break me.
I think once Marco processes his emotions of the loss of Alexi and some other friends and centers himself again, he will return. The important thing is what is best for Marco. Perhaps Tuomas can return the favor once granted to him by helping him through a personal dark moment.
For me, Marko (the Viking) is the face of Nightwish, Floor ( the Goddess) is the voice.
Together, they are the best.

I dont even know Nightwish for a whole year atm, but I really had to process the sad news for a few days. And still feel a bit empty if that makes sense. Nightwish really changed my vision on what music, or even a single band, emotionally can do to a person. I never experienced that before Nightwish and im 41 y/o.

I 100% agree with you. I'm 44 and after hearing a lot of their music library it's hard to listen to "regular" music. It just feels kind of hollow now compared to Nightwish

Thanks to some vocal coaches' reactions I truly understand, what difficult things Floor does and how well she does them. People throw a lot of words around like "goddess" and "she's magic", but I'm so happy, that she is NOT these things. She is a human being with great talent and the joy to put lots of hard work into it to create the best possible pieces of art. That should be applauded and appreciated, I feel. Because that's also inspiring for us other humans to find what we are good at and what makes us happy and live it to the fullest. Floor and Nightwish show us, that it can be done. - And Floor absolutely loves the content/meaning of the songs. That's why you always feel taken on such an emotional journey. She really wants you to feel the songs, so she's not just "working" and hitting the notes correctly.
WolfKain, you mentioned, how Oceanborn is their 1st "real" album, which they had so much enthusiasm for to try out so many things. That's also one of the elements, that Tuomas brings up a lot in his subsequent work: "Innocence" - That is a major theme. The innocence he and the others had way back then and his desperate efforts to recapture that feeling, which is kinda impossible the more and more professional you get. One of their documentaries is also called "End of Innocence".

Still haven't seen Nightwish with Floor, and now Marko is gone :( And with the loss of Alexi it definitely is a tough start of 2021, but I do believe we will get to see some concerts again later in the year now that vaccinations are happening, so we can hopefully soon leave this hard time behind and look forward to great things to come
Songs like this reminds me how much I'm going to miss Marko. Floor is from another universe, but Marko is also in a league of his own.

Permission to give my opinion good man! .. I always loved it, and when Tarja left, it became an iconic song for me ... when I saw that they were going to do it with Floor, I was not sure how it would turn out, I could not imagine .. and today my favorite version is that of Floor, by a little .. A lot of passion, very well interpreted in every sense, singing, gestures, presence .. I was on that day that they recorded this DVD .. I simply surrendered to my feet by Nightwish.
First off, thank you for the intro dedication and mention to Alexi. Now let's talk turkey: there are heaps of "Marko fans" (I know you are not one of those) that came out of the wood works when Nightwish became a RUclips sensation due to all the vocal coach reactions and what not. Then, there are those of us who have been blessed to discover Marko's immense talent and personality since the mid 80s and his early days with Tarrot and his brother. We (the collective "we") would never know what went down to lead to Marko's departure, but I will say this: I hope you find your Walden soon brother Marko. Please, know that the people that matter most, your family and close friends, love and appreciate you. I, for one, am looking forward to perhaps some new Tarrot/Marko magic. Time will tell.

For me this version of Floor and Marko is the winner over the album version. I dont think that Marko has sang live the Pharao sails to Orion, I’m sure that Floor hasn’t. I was upset of Markos announcement for a week, got very emotional and cried every time I saw or heard Marko in a song, had to take few days off of Nightwish and that has never happened before. Now I’m just hopeing that he’ll get well and wishing he will be back to sing Endlessness live for us someday 🤘🏼❤️

I wouldn't say he's happy. Hopefully will be after his re-invention/re-discover/soulsearching. There shouldn't be a reason not to be happy and satisfied while still being in a band, especially in Nightwish which is a wonderful band or family not taking anything or anyone for granted, greatly respecting and considering eachothers needs and feelings etc. It's a band where even the smallest of members/supporters are being heard, matters and appreciated. But his decision is as much outside of the music as within the music. I wish the very best for him and hope to see him back in one form or another. It's a hard pill to swallow but I'm hopeful and optimisic for him and the future of the band. In the end just want the band and everyone involved to be happy and move forward.

Until this live was released, I did not remember this song at all, and I used to listen to that album non stop when it came out. Literally non stop. I actually had to go back and listen to the studio version after this was released because I could not remember it and I was like.. omg that is the song? it is the same song? Indeed, now with Floor and Marco and with the maturity of the entire band and the changes they made to the song overall, it is the song it was meant to be. And I absolutely love it now. \m/

I love Devil&...Ocean, in both versions :) I didn't like it in the beginning, for a long time, but it was because I was too young :P I didn't like anything that wasn't 'melodic enough'. I didn't like for example The Kinslayer, Wishmaster, Planet Hell. if you can get what I mean :)

Oof, same here with Devil&...Ocean! The first time I listened to Oceanborn years ago, I was blown away by the album opening with Stargazers and followed up by Gethsemane. When Devil&...Ocean came up, though, I wasn't really as taken with it as I was with the previous tracks and the others that followed, and it became one of the very few Nightwish songs I would skip when I replayed an album. I didn't hate it (it's still a Nightwish song so there's a level of fondness there), but I felt that the song could have been a lot better if there were more vocal experimentations on Tarja's part because she sounded monotonous for most of the song.
When I heard that they were playing this again for the Decades album, I was hesitant because I wasn't sure if Floor would sing it the same or experiment with it, but when Floor maximized the song with varying techniques - it immediately skyrocketed to one of my most repeated songs for NW lol

I love this song, both versions ... the live version of Floor is on another level, the band took it to the place it deserves without a doubt ... I was on that DVD that day ... it was something so wonderful, they made us travel back in time with the Setlist, for every Nightwish fan that setlist was a godsend.

It's the same, when you watch ballet: If the dancers are beginners or mediocre, you always like hold your breath: do they survive, it's so difficult, what they try to do - do they fall... Oh, that's soooo hard. And your muscles are tense, you kinda try to hold it all together, help them to survive...
When they are masters, professional, you're just relaxed and enjoy the scene. And it all seems so easy, your brain kinda dances with them, and it seems you could just take off and float there to dance with them.
But If you try to do just one easiest move they make, you notice: OMG, how is it possible to do that, they make impossible possible and Look easy
And I think the whole Nightwish is like that: Emppu, Kai, Tuomas, Marko, Troy and now Jukka playing and Floor singing... They are the "master-ballerinas" of their stuff. Just smiling and having fun, like it's almost nothing they do - like breathing or walking... (But go and try, and you'll notice the amount of work they have to have put in to get there where they are)

Thank you for this video. It hasn’t been an easy start to the year really there, but I wish for better times. It somehow felt good to hear your analysis of Marco’s decision and to see those photos of him and his family. Things go with their own weight and order of importance. But just as this song showed the chemistry between Floor and Marco ... there's still a pretty big gap to fill. Fortunately, RUclips has this material for what to watch and time travel to these unforgettable concerts. And I'm absolutely convinced that Marco is seen as still as you expected yourself.

The music world these days is a really tough place to be, for so many reasons, especially if you suffer from depression. Keep up the great videos, brill stuff.
I definitely have some songs I prefer Tarja on and some I prefer Floor on. They're just often so different to me that the entire vibe of the song changes - some songs I actually listen to both versions. I absolutely love Wish I Had An Angel from both singers and to me, just my personal take, Floor's rendition is powerful and strong and Tarja's is haunting and ethereal. I'll always have a bit more of a soft spot for Tarja's because it was my first Nightwish song, but I still listen to Floor's rendition a lot as well. It only makes sense that some may prefer one over the other, and you having a song that you didn't like the Tarja version of but like the Floor version of kind of shows your preference for Tarja versions isn't just a bias towards liking the original singer but that you just like her version/style more often for songs. I don't particularly understand anything wrong with that, but man people get heated in debates on which is "better". On the one hand it's lovely to see how passionate people get about music, but on the other hand it gets a little too aggressive at times. I'm so glad you're both continuing on and willing to say things even if you think people don't want to hear it. It's very refreshing to hear different perspectives because you always explain why you prefer a version(e.g. Ever Dream) and that's really neat to see. Thank you. :) I hope you're both safe and healthy!

Nightwish and Sonata Arctica perform in a festival in Tampere June 10th, tickets on sale. I wonder if the festival really happens. Nightwish also in Kuopio and Oulu festivals last days of July. IF???
Fun Fact: On the album version the male vocals were actually by Tuomas and Jukka. And on their first album (Angels Fall First), Tuomas did all of the male vocals (plus Emppu played both the guitar and bass parts).

I absolutely agree with Wolf! I've always felt that this song in the album version wasn't that good as I think it was intended. Floor used different styles in this song. It was strong, she used growls, classical stacattos and the way she sang was absolutely fantastic!
On decades tour in Finland they had Wilska on stage singing with Floor. It was amazing

Aw man, I didn't know Marko and Alexi were so close :( You kind of assume these musicians just know each other in passing and from festivals and stuff. Man that adds an extra twist of heartache on Alexi's passing and Marko's news.

Also lets not forget that Marco is 55, and touring is hard both mentally and physically, and if you are not mentally up for it no matter if its depression (which no one should ever take lightly), or just wish to spend time with your family then its certainly better to be home with friends and family. He have paid his dues.
And its better to take a break (no matter how it takes), and enjoy it while you have your health etc.

Good late evening, beautiful people. We might assume, that the year 2021 would be better, but it don't look that just right now. But hey, the new year has just started. And we will get along, for sure. Let us not loose the Hope! Marko's resign is a huge loss to Nightwish and us. The new bassist is maybe a little easier to find, but who on Earth can replace his stage presence and singing capabilities. Maybe nobody, but we have to appreciate his decision. Here in Finland speculations have also started already. Interesting times ahead, but let us hope that this would not be the end of their wonderful story. This BA 2018 performance is excellent. Marko as sinister Devil and Floor as the mighty Ocean. And their not so healthy relationship. There are some quite inhuman tones there. Great! Yeah...His departure from the band screwed up the beginning of the year for me but of course we have to respect this man and his choices.It is his life and we tend to forget that artists we love are just like us.They are real people.However ,I am just worried about Nightwish,a few years ago they lost Jukka /the drummer/ and I think that in one of the recent interviews Tuomas said that the band will not stand losing another member. And now Marko leaves. Damn...

Glad to hear someone else loves The Pharaoh Sails to Orion too (and this one). However, I prefer the album versions or even better, the live versions with Wilska. Live he sings the song almost death metal style. I'd love to hear Nightwish include proper growling vocals in their songs.

Some fans have thrown the name of Jarkko Ahola to replace Marko both as bassist and male singer. He certainly can sing since he has done tours performing semi-classical vocal pieces.
Before that he was bassist singer composer for the Manowar styled Teräsbetoni, singing in Finnish. Please check out a song called "Orjatar" to get the point. :)
If you want to see Ahola in full flight, please check his version on "Walking In The Air". But of course all that is just speculation.

Guys you should really see Floor singing "Gethsemane" its unreal, and Tarja makes that song incresible. You actually should make a video seeign them both on stage singing that song. Its one of the most impossible songs to sing. Amazing.

Hi there!! I saw exactly the same performance at Wacken 2018! It was a very intense feeling. It was my first time hearing this particular song and my brother explained the meaning of the song to me.
But I must agree, it‘s not my favourite song of Nightwish.
