I have a Mark Two target model since 1994 and never thought the need for an upgrade. The new ones are nice; I agree they come apart quick as whistle; but I learned how mine works and don’t mind doing it. I had friends who never could figure them out too. I use to put theirs back together for them when we went shooing together. Mine has a sweet trigger and I will put up with that little issue for that reason. Being people trade their old ones in for new ones makes finding an older one easy. The used ones cost less most times; for that reason it might be a good way to save some money. I doubt they shoot any better. If you are not Jerry Miculek it doesn’t make much difference how fast you can reload one. If you can’t take care of the problem with ten shots; they still make good clubs; being there so heavy. I once saw an old auto mechanic clean an old one he kept in a desk. He put it in a parts washing bin drenched with parts cleaner. Scrubbed it with a brush and blew it dry with an air hose. Then he went out back and empty the loaded magazine into an old burn barrel. He looked at me and said; well there Geniuses did you learn anything. He was an old Korean War Vet and I was sorry I told him his pistol was dirty; that is what I learned.✨🐃✨😂🚙

I'm one of those "brown bag" people that brought my Mark II to a gunsmith to have it put back together. Now, I clean the bore and spray the rest down with Ballistol, and let it dry. I'll have it deep cleaned every 10,000 rounds or so. That seems to work fine. I do the same thing with my Marlin Model 60 that I bought around the same time. No problems there either.

Thanks, Buffalo! Keep the .22 handgun videos coming! 👍
When my wife decided she needed an "optic" on her .22 pistol (after a man at the range let her shoot his Ruger with a red dot sight) we went looking for a new pistol. Her S&W 422 didn't make mounting an optic practical.
I tried to steer her into a S&W Model 41, but she was pretty much set on the Ruger. The first shot she fired with that man's pistol she drilled the little red spot in the center of the bullseye and she instantly "needed one of those"
She chose a Ruger MKIV .22/45 Target, different grip angle and larger, finger groove grips. At first she felt it was too heavy, it was much heavier than her 422. But now she agrees it helps her shooting. The S&W? Handed down to one of my sons for his kids to shoot.
She loves the Ruger! She shoots it well. It also occasionally fails to lock open on the last round. Not sure why. I have cleaned it and checked the operation of everything and it still happens. She has three magazines and they all do it sometimes. Not an issue for casual target shooting.

Mounted a red dot on the Lite which made it a pleasure to shoot. Ruger hit it out of the park on the take down! Sure glad to have these high quality .22's during the ammo shortage. On my MKIII 22/45 (5” heavy barrel) I put a high vis front and a shallow V back sight on it. Also a bushing without the mag disconnect. Shoots very good. As for takedown, the old style is all I’ve ever dealt with. No complaints and as I practiced with the polymer frame 22/45 I am fast on takedown and reassembly. No tool required as some claim on the 22/45 MKIII.

I own several Ruger mk iv pistols. There is one weak point in design at barrel rotation point for disassembly. The frame has been drilled at the pivot point and a spring with a rubber insert containing an encased metal bearing has been installed. The purpose is to keep tension on the barrel so it does loosen when the barrel is in place. I was getting ready to shoot and noticed the barrel had play and could be easily moved. I called Ruger and they sent me the spring and rubber sleeve which held the bearing. I removed the original and installed new assembly and the looseness went away. So if you notice barrel looseness that’s why.

Nice shooting Buffalo! Your Mark III Hunter is a beautiful pistol. I love my Mark III Target, shot it this morning at the family farm. I only was able to get through 21 rounds before I decided to leave the shooting shack and return to the house because the skeeters were so thick. Next time I need to bring my Thermacell along. I have a Mark IV but I am so used to my Mark III Target I tend to shoot it more often. I shoot the Mark III better than any of the many 22 pistols I own. Cleaning the Mark III is considerably more difficult, however with a little practice it's really not bad once you get the hang of it. The Mark IV is a breeze to clean and I do like the controls better on the Mark IV.

I hear you about them skeeters. I have a real problem with flies here. I went to the range today and they like to eat me alive.

Awesome pistol, especially if you've had to deal with earlier Mark series. But it seems to be a really good shooter, too. I wouldn't mind trading my mk2 in for one.

I thought by the title you were shooting tacks and grazed (tickled) one. Lol. A good laugh either way.

You tube wouldn't let me spell it correctly. I uploaded it like 4 times before I figured out what the illegal word in the title was.

    Buffalo,
Always enjoy your reviews. Could you comment on the pistol rest you used on the shooting table. Thanks!

What we have here is a really big Shew.
Sure I had a couple of the early models and I sold them. I hated to breakdown for cleaning which made it easy to sell. I cheated at cleaning I used Birchwood Casey Gunscrubber, and spray lub and called it good. Today I own Ruger SR .22 and I enjoy shooting it. Sorry Ruger I'm not in the market for another .22 that holds only 10 rounds.

Amen to that. I LOVE the mark series but I too am tired of the 10 rounders. Pistol and rifle both. Refreshing to see I'm not alone in this sentiment. Would be lovely if we could get a MKV with the only change being a capacity of at least 15-18 rounds. A slightly fatter grip wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

I've noticed that everybody has been busting out their 22 guns recently. I purchased a few new ones myself, Marlin 80, amrlin 995, marlin 60, arminius h7, and an old rohm rg66.

I had a standard model I guess it was back in 1981. I took it apart and never got it back together. Cox gun shop here in town put it back together for me. I kept it till 85 and never took it apart again. It was more than my hillbilly brain could handle. As always great shooting and getting rid of that fungus😄

I bought a Ruger Standard Auto brand new in 1971 for $50. It has fired over 30,000 rounds of ammo and has never been apart.
I haven't fired it for over 20 years. Too many other guns to shoot.

They can be a pain. I've got a hold of some that ain;t to bad but others are very ill fit. Either way the MK IV is much better in that regard. Thanks for watching Scott!

I love my MK lll, but I'd sure love to have me the MK lV even if it's mostly because of the ease of take down. I've had all the models except the MK IV, and they're all a booger to put back together.
