The selection process is tight, all were the highest calibre soldiers with years or decades of combat experience. I queued for 13 to walk past the catafalque. It was somber, sorrowful and respectful. In that queue there was not a single bad word said, not a single queue jumper, just thousands of strangers politely chatting to one another. It was quintessentially British.
