I met Danny Joe and his wife in 1979 while my band was on tour. He was one of the kindest people I ever met. I was 19 at the time and he gave me the best advice ever- do what makes your heart feel good. If you lose that feeling, give it up! RIP DJB. LOVE YOU MAN.

My favorite band of all time. While visiting my son and his family in Jacksonville I drove up and down the street DJB grew up on. Just reflecting on his awesome talent and the loss way too soon.
That brought a smile to my face! Even sick this guy knocked it out of the park. The boys loved having Danny there, you could tell. Unmistakable voice, that was his song. Watching his 1983 performance of this song when he was younger was awesome. He put everything he had into it.
Loved watching him hod the mic to the crowd for that last verse. One of my best memories of seeing them live was when DJB did that and the crowd knew all the words and sang it LOUD. We're all lucky to have heard DJB.
I lost my Mom to the same disease that DJB had. Diabetes is a silent killer and a HORRIBLE illness. My heart goes out to anyone suffering from that horrible disease. R.I.P. DJB.

Yeah, BI made it really difficult putting that event together but Riff delegated through it with diplomacy that hurdled over any of the obstacles BI and company could throw at him. You and alot of us know the story, there can only be one real MH, the rest are cover bands at best, so let the pretenders think they really are somebody and just sit back and laugh at them with the rest of us. By the way, I was involved with this event from the beginning. One of my fondest memories was rehearsal night where I ran monitors. I was so concerned about DJB being able to hear his monitor. I asked if it was alright, he looked at me and said with a huge smile on his face, "everything's fine". The band was so loud I knew he couldn't possibly hear anything, he was just so happy to be there with all his original band mates! RIP Danny, Riff and Duayne

Yeah, BI made it really difficult putting that event together but Riff delegated through it with diplomacy that hurdled over any of the obstacles BI and company could throw at him. You and alot of us know the story, there can only be one real MH, the rest are cover bands at best, so let the pretenders think they really are somebody and just sit back and laugh at them with the rest of us. By the way, I was involved with this event from the beginning. One of my fondest memories was rehearsal night where I ran monitors. I was so concerned about DJB being able to hear his monitor. I asked if it was alright, he looked at me and said with a huge smile on his face, "everything's fine". The band was so loud I knew he couldn't possibly hear anything, he was just so happy to be there with all his original band mates! RIP Danny, Riff and Duayne

That took everything he had. So sad. These guys were a great Southern Rock Band but seemed to be cursed for some reason. I'll always love Danny Joe right up there with Skynard.

I remember when he first album came out. Nothing like being a Senior in HS, jamming this on the 8-track, and driving to Daytona for the weekend. What great memories from the band and that voice. BTW, Club La Vela is in Panama City Beach.

Saw him and met him in the early 80's at the old Saddle Rack in San Jose sweating his ass off and giving it 200%. Great to see him here coming back and totally in to it. This guy was great.
