@madmax8949 haha that is cool, I would like that. I only made a couple of rock concerts, Molly Hatchet at the Hampton Coliseum in about in 82 or 83 maybe and then zz top at the same place in maybe 93 and then Marshall Tucker once but man life for me then was a happier time and I think that is why I stay on RUclips a lot when not at work listening to the music from that time and it takes me back there for a while!

Every time I hear this song I wonder how come this didn't wind up my generation's signature southern rock anthem instead of Freebird. Lyrically, thematically, melodically, it's a much more in-depth, intense song. :)

+mrz80 THIS. No disrespect to Skynyrd but MH were simply far more talented. IMO "Tuesday's Gone" and "The Ballad of Curtis Lowe " were LS's best songs. They were better at soul than they were rock. MH is just on another level in terms of talent. Much like Rush and everyone else.
To answer your question, I think because this song conjures real emotions of sadness, while "Freebird" is, like, all about that freedom, man.

The 70s and 80s gave birth to SO MANY KILLER BANDS that I am still amazed! Southern Fried Rock, as some called it, gave rise to these talented maniacs, Blackfoot, Lynrd Skynrd, 38 special, Terrible Ted Nugent, and their 60s birthers like the Outlaws, Alman Brothers, etc ! I love this painful and angry music!

Rehashed Molly. Can't substitute for the original line up. Bought them drinks when they didn't have the money to buy their own and they were red hot back then playing for $100.00 per night for the whole band, drinks extra, plus had to cover their rooms down town. They were scratching just to put fuel in the bus to go from Jacksonville to Ft. Myers. All about getting the name out paying the dues. If any band ever did it was Danny Joe, Duane, Dave, Banner, and Bruce doing it big time. They virtually paid for stage time. RIP Danny and Duane and God Bless them.

Love this song, and this is a damn good version! Danny Joe is one of my all-time favorite singers. Saw them once, back in the 90's BY FAR the LOUDEST concert I'd ever been to,lol. My hearing wasn't right for days...

I think I've added at least 100 views of this video over the years. Saw them in concert a couple of times. This song is so underrated it's not even funny. The four guitars together always gives me goosebumps. Their albums have the best cover art of any records out there. Can you imagine the jam sessions that they are having up in heaven. RIP my brothers
