  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that's triggered by a traumatic event. This can be caused by either experiencing it or even witnessing it. Symptoms may include nightmares, flashbacks, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event and severe anxiety. I interview my dad; a wounded vet about his experiences with PTSD.

PTSD is horrible! Back when I was diagnosed they didn't call it that. It was called post traumatic war syndrome. While I was given my diagnosis, I laughed (nervous laugh) and said I've never fought in a war. My counselor looked at me in shock and said "yes...you did!" I thought for a minute and then realized, yes, I did! Being physically, mentally and sexually abused by your spouse for many years, you do feel like you've been in a war!

The sad thing is that it really can happen to anyone and it doesn’t seem fair that you’re forced to relive the worst moments over and over. I’m very sorry and my heart goes out to you. ♥️
