Just how good was my “greatest” score?

- About a year ago I decided to reach for the skies and attempt to achieve one of Geoguessr's holy grails - 24,000 points with NMPZ and 10 seconds per round. Somehow I ended up with the mental score of 24,710. Granted it was on the slightly easier World map, but Geoguessr pros such as Zigzag have toiled over this score ever since. So how good was it? was it a complete fluke? was it pure skill? or a mixture of the two? Can I get anywhere near that today without any practice? we find out in today's relaxed video.
watch the original video here: • Is this my greatest ga...
Yep, I’ve spent in excess of 40 hours trying to beat that score by now. I had given up, but might be time to give it another go though :)
get it in
50 more seconds is all it can take
What's been your highest score mate?
It's because you were not singing
@@Kiwi2703 lmao unironically he tried the singing strat before hahaha
Bro 23k on a seed with THREE USA ROUNDS?!?!?!?! That's an insane score lol.
As someone who likes geoguessr but isn't THAT into it. Your annotations for each round for what you are looking at is very cool and helpful.
"FRENCHEST CAR EVER" got me lol
Me too I really appreciated that.
Agree! They were really useful, and a easy way to know the thought process behind his guess
This is why GW is still the gold standard
Those captions are amazing, thank you so much for that extra work.
Especially frenchest car ever.🤦🏼♀️😵💫
That was an unfortunate opening line for someone who forgot their headphones weren't connected, while on the London underground
🤣🤣
I was in an elevator and my AirPod fell out of my ear just as I started to play it
Everyone stepped back away from me 🤣
over a million subscribers and i love how Tom's video style hasn't changed, they're all just as down to earth as the beginning... super rare
Just something so cozy about these videos. Love the channel! I wish fortune and happiness for the whole future family!
I like it when you at least speed up the footage through the bad rounds instead of entirely skipping from including them in the video. The little textual hints of what was going through your mind in the moment were great as well.
Edit: I would've liked to see that Saint-Paul guess slowed down 9:23.
I feel like that if you matched your previous score on your second or third try, Zi8gzag would have traveled from Kangaroo Land just to punch you in the junk. 😆 Thanks for the video, Tom!
Missed the ol' NMPZ videos! Great to see this popup - enjoyable as always!
I enjoy your casual geo guesser so much in contrast to all the (also great) esporty GeoGuesser
The text to show what you are focusing on is a nice addition, so we can understand your thought process :)
Always nice to see GeoGuessr content. Great and satisfying grind this time ❤
Another episode that I can confirm he was indeed recording
Thank goodness, I was worried for a moment
But how can you be so sure? He never said it! 😮
@@Wingspan_5 So was I as I thought he wasn't recording. Then I realised I hadn't turned on my laptop.
It's always a pleasure to see that you've posted a new video. I look forward to watching them all! Cheers from America!
10:40 fair play, I lived in Cochabamba and didn't even realise that was Cochabamba lol
Wait you're from Cochabamba ? What it's like up there ?
Loved these videos, been hoping for these to return for awhile.
Love this style of video. You just playing the game, talking sporadically but with on screen captions for your thoughts at the moment. Love it
Tom, I've been a fan of the channel for a long time. You really popularized GeoGuessr and likely introduced it to a lot of folks in the pro community. You walked so all of these people could run, and I am sure you will always be respected as one of the OGs in the community.
Cheers from Fort Worth, TX!
Geowizard - Tom - I have recently seen a video where someone (Edd Pratt) travels the full length of the River Thames, there video is called - Source to Sea down the River Thames WITHOUT Leaving it. Seriously suggest you look at this. Cheers
banger video, which other people reading these comments should definitely watch
yes i saw the fieldhouses also did that one, i would love to see tom do it
Ed’s a legend, i highly recommend watching all of his stuff. Unicycling round the world is probably the most impressive thing i’ve ever seen or will see anyone do
I hope you needed making this video as I needed seeing it. What a perfect time to upload. Thanks Tom
I forgot just how insane your record was!
I'd love to see more collabs with zigzag!!
Would love to see another collab with Zi8gzag.
Good to see you back on the OG content :)
I actually love the little context clues you put on this video, makes it easier to follow
Stumbled on a few of these before, but those new edits have earned my sub...
Dear Tom, I had an idea how you could traverse a larger country in Europe in a straight line. The catch is, you would increase the size of the zones by a lot, say a quarter of a mile for platinum, a mile for gold, a few miles for silver etc... It would be a different challenge where you could probably take roads, but be able to travel larger distances. I imagine it would be something like a cross between how not to travel europe and a straight line mission. You could even add a twist and only carry a few tenners then it would be like every one of your travel challenges combined hahah! Cheers!
then it's not a straight line is it, you can achieve a goal by changing the parameters but it's hardly the same goal is it
@@williamwoods477 I suppose but it would make for a fun video so who cares?
This is a cool concept. There should be some way of scaling the platinum/gold/silver etc. rating system based on factors that inevitably differ between countries, chiefly size.
@williamwoods477 Well technically none of its straight line missions are straight lines 🤷♂️
@BryceRogers_ The Burdell score does this and it is a secondary measure that Tom uses to rate his lines.
You’re not just a Geoguessr expert, you’re a true strategist. It’s awesome to see how you reflect on past achievements and keep pushing yourself. 👏
the music at 7:30 reminds me of when I found the channel through straight line videos, so nostalgic
Music by the man himself.
Tom there is just something about your videos that make me genuinely happy. For as long as you'll be making videos I'll never stop watching
I seem to remember you singing when you hit the high score and it helped
I would love to see this come back as a series! Yet of course, it's very tedious and I would understand if you don't wanna pursue your record, but I would be here for it
Great vid, the edit must have taken some time, but spot on, burst out laughing at the question marks during the bridge round. Great work, loved it!
Completely had me at "Frenchest car ever" 😂
No way! At 8:11, that's the old shopping mall I used to go to all the time as a kid. It's about 15 minutes from where I grew up! Massive fan Tom, keep up the excellent content!
thank you for including a link to your original video. saw a zigzag video and wanted to watch your one but didnt know where to find it. so many channels never link to what they are about.
That 23.003 gave ms so much pure joy! haha! Great! That's why we love him :)
7:30 tunes are ridiculously nostalgic
I subscribed, luv the annotations. Been looking for someone who explains how they choose
0:16 "an update on Limmy's arse" is not staying unwatched for long
RIP Benny Harvey
I watched it, it was good. No click bait.
I love that you're clearly a fan of Limmy. He's an absolute genius!
loved the music in this one Tom
classic content this is, love it Tom
Me: Sweet! A new Geowizard vi-
Tom: 👂🤧🤧🤧
Greatest video ever, Tom.
I just watched zi8gzag's new video and he was finally able to beat Tom's score. Congratulations to him.
Cheers Tom, having a beer watching you wit around is always a good time.
The music at 7:38 makes my soul sing
Geoguessr should buy the rights for the album and put it as the soundtrack of the game if you play the original world map 😂
Same, every time i hear those songs i get happy and at peace
whats the name of the song??
@@eLeMenTaz0rnot sure the song but I’m pretty sure it’s off his album “16-Bit Adventure” under the name Amynedd
@eLeMenTaz0r album is called 16-bit adventure on Spotify, then there are several nice songs there
Seems like a good time to bring back the insane guess compilations
Smashed it like a legend brill watch mate
You’re the best thing on the internet.
The best content as always
I think in one of the videos where he tries to beat the score, zi8gzag mentioned that someone had already beaten it, if I remember correctly.
Excellent Dick n Dom reference at the start of the video.
Never get tired of good old fashioned world geoguessr content
Tom, I just binge watched your trip down the East Coast. When you got to Columbia, what do I see but that you were across the road from my house? When you were at Scratch and Spin, hopefully you stopped by Zesto's for an ice cream or fried chicken. Love your videos!!
Nice that you add what you were thinking about the placec👍
As someone who has had some experience with geoguessr, even though less than you, I personally didn't like the annotations. For me it's most fun to make up my mind same time as you while watching this video. After a few rounds I tried to ignore them what impeded however me getting a full impression of the scenery.
I really like the Info on the screen!
4:31 That lifted truck to the right with the balloon tires is a dead giveaway for Iceland. They have those all over the place there. Sometimes in the form of vans and busses too.
Tom your music choices always make me feel like I’m 8 years old playing Pokémon on my Nintendo again
THE RACE TO BEAT THE SCORE!!!!!! Tom! Get in there!!!! Fight for your crown lol maybe even 24 hours live stream for charity, you and zigzag and the whole community trying to beat that score. FOR CHARITY
Like mate, just play this for 30 minutes a day for a month, youll be good as new brother.
Sometimes it's easy to forget just how next-level GeoWizard is compared to the rest of us. Those are amazing scores.
Switching up Uganda and Kenya had me laughing out loud 😂
Hey! Just fyi we will be glad to see even failed Detective attempt
Nope
Nope
@@IceValley388Speak for yourself
Then others will post the solution in the comments, though, in all likelihood, which makes it a definitive loss.
I enjoyed watching, but I enjoy the Geo Detective videos more, where you can move around and it's not as fast paced.
Looking forward to your holiday video! 🎅
Your thought annotations are great
3:44 my thoughts for this one
"yeah it does look like poland, but the road is too nice. Germany"
good job mate
Was he recording?!
I forgot about that record! Nice to revisit this challenge
Hey there, big fan, guess we are both liking the videos. It's allright.
Great vid Tom! Id honestly watch all these rounds in normal speed if you wanted to upload a longer vid!
What the heck? I used to live right by 13:00. I've watched a lot of geoguessr videos. It's always fun if you recognize somewhere you've been but seeing where you actually live is trippy.
Best intto ever!! .. trumpting nose sounds ...and a swear... see this is why I come back and back
Made me laugh quite a bit
love the annotations
I’m chanting your name in my house.
it's amazing how some countries are so easily recognizable with just a glance, it's not even any specific meta, it's just feeling.
Tom playing geogusser is a drop everything kinda of moment
10:27 the moment you click guess and the zoom shows just one letter 😍
Good to see that you're a fan of Limmy 😂
I lol'd at "Frenchest car ever" .
GeoWizard is so good he guessed Uganda when it was Kenya, and Kenya when it was Uganda.
I love those quick games
Again, just fun to see my “small” town’s name on your closing map screen, after you’ve circled the world, you ended up by me. (not LA, but near by)
Also, there could be a map of just California, and I’d probably be off by 100 miles on some guesses! 😅
It's been a quiet week in work, so there's been quite a bit of Geoguessr being played.
Was very inspired by this and tried it, got 19162 😂 proud but Western Australia screwed me, I picked WA but it was so far north I got like 2500. It would have been killer if I got that right but I’m still very happy with my results
Tom, if i remember correctly, since your last attempt , the world map was revamped, so it's less of capital guessr and closer to a more conventional map most of us play. It will be harder to achieve your previous score. It will still require a lucky seed. However, now, a little more luck is needed. My current record is 24.5k , 10s nmpz on the current world map.l so nah, not beaten your score as of yet haha. Keep up the good work though bud.
I agree. Not that I play that map but having seen a few videos that used World compared to those from a year ago, the map seems more varied and sometimes actually difficult.
@@michaelwisniewski6047 Oh absolutely sir. The previous world map was highly distributed around capitals. It was closer to "A Stochastic Populated World" because you'll find you're in areas where the density of people lived so mainly caps and big cities. Just like you said, "it's more varied" compared to the previous gen version. Even with it's current "generation" i would recommend any newer player to play "ACW" over the world map.
would have loved a quick recap of your record rounds
Good game, Good channel win win
I live in Colorado, if you ever come to see what Denver actually looks like id be willing to show you around!
0:05 Do you remember... the 21st of September.
Ha, the correct location on that Seattle area round (at 13:00) is within a mile or two of my house.
At 6:50 in Mexico, is there I way to see the exact location. I think that could be in my town if not a little north about 30 mins. I’m from San Juan de Los Lagos. That could be around Encarnacion de Diaz
guy is overpowered in flora gaming, perfect latitudes almost everytime!
There's just no beating the element of vibe guessing you bring to the table
Only 15 mins? C'mon Tom! We need so much more! Likely my favorite channel on youtube!
If you gathered the stats on your individual guesses, it would be quite easy to estimate just how much of a fluke the 24,700 was.
Also: for your straight line Geoguesser mission, it might be an idea to travel the worst guess of your best score (be it the 24,700 or the record of some new play). Doesn't have to be a straight line, or not exactly anyway.
The back to back Kenya/Uganda swaps were hilarious.
