I completely understand "North American Grass" or the like. Every region has distinct foliage (plant ecology of an area is based on geology), and it is subtly noticeable if one pays attention. Totally. The devil is in the details even if we don't consciously process it. I've had this very strange feeling though. I'm from central Europe from Czechia and whenever I've travelled I've always started feeling homesick after a pretty short amount of time (week or two) just because I was missing the specific aesthetic of the land, the foliage etc. I had this even in Spain or France, even Germany. The only place, where I felt pretty at home was inland Lithuania and very strangely Britain (specifically southern England around Glastonbury). It seems so strange to me, because Britain is an island, it's quite a more southern place and especially the architecture is very very different.
@@Washeek That's interesting. I also start to feel a bit homesick when I travel out of the birch and spruce forrests of the Great Lakes region. It's funny how grass is a strong clue for some.. Whereas for me I have always paid most attention to the soil (moist, dark, light, reddish, yellow, grey, a lot of rocks, cracked dirt etc). Looking at specifically soil and trees generally has been very useful for me to identify where a picture was taken.

I could definitely recognize the North American grass because it has that distinct color I've seen so many times. It's super weird and hella specific, but there's just a feeling there that our brains can easily pick up without us thinking about it.
No matter how many times I see the posts/videos of you finding the locations of people's special photos I still get goosebumps and tear up (happy not sad kind). I appreciate you following it up with the amazing grass videos that are hilarious as you break them down, but the laughter was a nice switch because I can be too much of an emotional weenie sometimes.
Do you write down all the techniques you use to recognize places? You seem to know so much about random stuff in the world (that's actually important for geoguessing reasons) that I think you could write a book, or at least a very long guide
Very impressive. I imagine there are some really high paying jobs for your skill set. Getting that close by just looking at grass is really impressive. How much of your guesses feels intuitive? You're so quick it seems intuitive or you have spent an insane amount of time and have literally "seen it all" a couple times.
The only way this makes sense (and it massively crushes his skill set, but he's still most likely fairly high IQ), is that there are only a set number of matches that you get in these games. For example, let's say 'South-west America' has 1,000 images of 'grass', and they are all 90% the same. This could be true, but would not even require you to remember 1,000 grass images. All you'd have to do is figure that 20 of these are always the same and always South-west, and then remember that general 'grass-ness'. This tells you all you need to know. Now, the hard part is doing the same thing for every country on Earth (about 195). So, that's at least 20 x 195 for 3,900 grass images to log in your mind, with most likely 1,000 other random ones that are harder to get/less common to pop up. That's still impressive and difficult, but I don't think it's anywhere near the 'true' scale of such things. You'd have to remember 1 million images otherwise, and that's just inhuman. If the game is very fixed, and you can just log 'American grass' after 2-5 matches (because it only shows certain grass each time), then you only have to remember about 1,000 images of 'grass' in total. (Of course, you need to do the same for buildings and otherwise -- but buildings are a bit easier to figure out.) Ironically, he made a mistake with the Greece image. @@TheClassicWorld the images from geo are satelite map images randomly clipped i believe
The fact that you are so happy and proud of helping these people makes me so happy too :) that genuine smile when reviewing the videos is so heartwarming
We need a geowizard collab rn
I love the happiness (and pride?) in your smile when re-watching these.
With your skills you can help Interpol, FBI, etc. with locating landscape screenshots out of child pornography.
Machine learning can probably do it better. Not to push his talent down but it would probably be mentally tolling to look at those images all day.
@@millerdowneyy they obviously censor the child porn. You only see the mountain range in the background for example. Or a distinctive playground with distinctive houses etc.
+ they are actively asking for this kind of help on their websites. They wouldn’t if they have AI programs.
@@x9147 ok
@@x9147 they will probably have pretty soon though
@@dregga7638 where AI is still lacking (im working in AI ) is reasoning, where you dont just see patterns but use deductive reasoning, logic and put things together. if it is just patterns and you have enough data, then it is def better
What a beautiful smile, you can see how passionate this guy is!
your videos (both here and on tiktok) reignited my love of geography, and i ended spending a few days learning every country in the world just because i wanted to and i've never been more proud
The genuine smile on his face
When he knows he’s bringing joy to other
Protect this man at all cost
The way his eyes lightup when he reacted to the second one OMG ❤️ bro you are a blessing
This dude is a legend and i really find your dry humor hilarious
You can see how happy he is finding locations for people. Its heartwarming.
You are doing so much good for the world in finding these locations that are in the photographs that people have sent you of their loved ones. I have so much respect for what you are doing. Thank you.
you can see in his smile that hes pleased with what hes done
I swear RAINBOLT could track me down if he knew what color my grass is in my lawn.
I love how happy he looks when watching his stuff
Your content is evolving, nothing wrong with that.
Love this new direction, keep following your heart, it got you here so far.
the grass thing is insane but being from new zealand i immediately recognised our grass despite having no clue why... so i guess with enough exposure you'll just intuitively recognise patterns... this guy just does it at a savant like level
i didnt even get it and i live outside of chch lol
@@Asymmetrization maybe it's down to region? I live in the manawatu area so it's pretty similar looking farmland out here
@@maia8499 maybe, im in diamond harbour
This is some of the craziest stuff I’ve ever seen it’s not just his knowledge that’s impressive but how quickly he can look at a place and know exactly where it is. I just stumbled upon this on RUclips I’ve never seen anything like it.
I love how he is struggeling with his emotions while watching this. So glad that his passion is so usefull and fullfilling for him
I'm getting a buzz seeing you smile that you can help people what a legend
I love how he gets emotional at his own videos, the same way everybody else does, although it is his own vid.
I actually cant believe this. I stopped mid way though a geogessr session to watch this video... and when I go back, the very next map is the exact same darwin plonk as Rainbolt had... Crazy chance. At least I know where to go
the smile what he gives when he finds the locations hits different
you just got to love this guy. so genuinely nice
Let’s be glad this man is on our side, imagine if he didn’t use his abilities for good 😂😂
it's pretty satifying to watch someone with that amount of knowledge explain their moves
Bro i do this exact same thing for landscape photos - usually aligning the sun, moon and milkyway in a specific way. Your deductive and geographical thinking is excellent mate!
Bro spent all this time learning every type of grass but didn't have time to touch it 💀💀💀
Only realizing now that secret services will probably start scouting you soon
8:28 the xqc impression :D
GPS: "Recalculating"
Rainbolt: "Left"
I just started watching your videos, I've like binged watch what feels like hundreds. Out of everything you do, these specific videos always brings tears to my eyes. You're just absolutely amazing! I hope you continue to do these videos. I'm a new sub :)
This guy literally radiates happiness, honestly makes my day everytime I watch.
"Scanning..." This man is literally a human machine when it comes to pin point location finder.
2:50 ur smile gave me goosebumps. you are such a talented man doing so much good with your talent
Wow, wholesome and really impressive. Using your extraordinary skills to make huge positive impact on others lives, keep it up king.
Yo rainbolt I just want to say ive only actively watched your stuff for a few days but Ive got huge respect for you. Not only for helping people find places that are important to them but for genuine skill. I hate the word Talent because it infers that you didnt have to work for it and as a once aspiring esports competitor I understand the amount of effort and sheer will it takes to get to this level. and I'm guessing memorizing the WORLD takes a bit more time & effort than getting to GM in overwatch.
Every time he clicks, sounds like a gunshot echo, like he just killed the location.
5:40 If anyone is doubting this, you can literally tell Darwin apart from anywhere in Australia if you see the side of the road due to the dirt/grass combo.
Rainbolt speedrun, but the space taps are are bass-boosted
The violent space-bar slap is so iconic
Ngl when I saw his shorts I always tought they were fake or just a joke but now seeing his longer videos I realize how insane this guys is
Kinda funny cause I had such issues maintaining my lawn after moving from Belgium to NZ. Now I know it's NZ grass being patchy that can't be helped lol
7:51 this has to be a superpower or something how is that possible
The fact that you decide which request would be meaningful for a person says a lot man
Love the girl asking a random relationships and then you say "no" and immediately go into geoguessr nerd mode
most of my geoguessr moments are moments of abject despair
He turned from a pro geoguesser to Sherlock Holmes
2:53 that smile is so genuine he really cares
Gotta love rainbolts smile when he shows the clips. You can see that he is proud over himself, not only for himself but for making someone else happy! Big up my man
hey rainbolt, finally im early Lol
Edit: Im surprised you didnt include that clip of you getting the right road in kansas randomly
the smile that pops up on Trevor's face when he rewatches the finding picture locations videos is so heartwarming, you really know he cares about those ones a lot 🤍
Pretty standard rainbolt reaction video
Rainbolt is fucking precious man
You can really see the emo joy you're getting after the 2nd clip, I highly respect that my man. Joy from doing good is the best trait.
Also noticed the song in the back lol, we did very different things with it. Good choice though!
Iconic Darwin grass
My favourite
Wholesome!!!!! Geowizard another youtuber has done a few "find my family" type photos like your first 2. Maybe you could collab??
The way that he tries to make a wholesome speech at 4:26 but is completely overlooked by the menacing music had me crying
