Modern games are simply a reflection of the souls of the developers that make them: ugly, twisted, entitled, and delusional.

Everything is a self-insert. It's also why they go on a warpath, if the audience doesnt like it. Its everyone saying they don't like "them".

I'm a tall, scrawny, middle-aged man who has been gaming since I was 4 years old. I have never felt like I needed representation. However, these people have to learn to leave preexisting franchises alone, make your own games, and let them fail on those merits. Nothing wrong with Stellar Blade, and there is nothing wrong with crap like Intergalactic. Just don't attack games like Stellar Blade while praising Intergalactic. It's hypocritical.

@gagejohnathan9641 and as long as they stay away from preexisting franchises, who cares if those games fail? We already knew Concord was gonna be a flop, just like Unknown 9 and Dustborn.

See, they'll argue that's because "the world revolved aroun you already just for being whyte" because 90% of their ideology revolves around class struggle, which "evolved" into "race struggle" (yes, they ignore poor whytes and rich non whytes)
This is all cultural marxism, the name we gave this after SJW was found lacking, and before "woke" which sounded sillier so it stuck around more.

Look at the comic I Am Not Starfire, and then at the author Mariko Tamaki, IIRC. I think that will answer most cases of "representation" that looks like that.

There's a particular quote I've come to like, but don't know the source of: "Too much sanity may be madness - and maddest of all: to see life as it is, and not as it should be."
What the kinds of people who demand everything to be "realistic" and "have representation" show is that they are absent of any imagination or drive. They're the kinds of people who tell the kids at the orphanage "Santa doesn't exist", claiming that they need to grow up, but their compulsive need to snuff any desire for hope or the ideal only shows *_their own_* immature inability to cope with the difficulties of life. To quote Terry Pratchet: *"Humans need fantasy to be human. To be the place where the falling angel meets the rising ape."*

Karlach of BG3 is an outstanding example of the "attractive" personality npc. She's a demon hybrid muscle bound literal war machine, but her attitude is adorable, likeable in spite of drawing a crap hand in life. We know the difference. Write better chars, avoid terminally pissed off angry tribals with an agenda perhaps, unless there is a reason you need to make a char a hated pariah. Attractive is not tied to a character model. Cassandra is another example, of many from older, better written games.

I think this is the bare bones of the issue. The communities and people they shriek about "representing" don't even like the crap being shoehorned into games at the moment, so it's clearly NOT "representation". It's self inserting and standing on the backs of vulnerable communities as an excuse to have people applaud their lip service. The prob is, these games aren't EVEN being made by "activists", they're being made by insufferable virtue signalling assholes with white knight syndrome and a large social media platform. The enforced positivity in their studios means they're constantly surrounded by a very well funded echo chamber, and because they have social media celebrity status their idiocy is also reenforced by their fans (many of whom don't even play their games).

The late night talk show host Craig Ferguson told a joke years ago, when the summer ended and movies like Transformers were no longer in theaters. It was something like this: “Now it’s Oscar’s season, so all the new movies coming out are going to be like ‘the one-legged cobbler who learns to love again by playing the flute.’”
I just remembered that when you mentioned gearing the game industry back toward gamers, because the game devs were prioritizing accolades from awards shows and media outlets rather than the actual audience.
    The puppies are very adorable.

I like the focused nature of this channel. It's becoming increasingly rare to find a good gaming channel that doesn't abuse the culture war or drip with hypocrisy. You make your points and share your feelings without being just a rage-bait channel. You come across as truly authentic and like a real gamer rather than trend-chasing, dramatic, or even robotic (as one particular rage-bait gaming channel out there is), so it's easy to respect you even if we don't agree on everything. We do, however agree on quite a bit 😂

Gamers are leaving big name studios in the dust and I'm here for it. It's a long time coming. We're allowed our preferences when buying a game, like you said, this is an expensive hobby. And it should be fun and worth your time to play it. Btw, I'm so over "women representation in gaming", I never asked for this. I grew up in the 90s hanging out at the arcades with my cousins, as a pre-teen girl I always thought Chun-li, Sonya, Katana were so cool and never felt less than as a girl. Ofc it would be weird to compare yourself to pixels to begin with lol. So are these women who advocate for representation in gaming competing with sexy pixelated characters? That's a funny thought! XD

15:27 --- It may sound cruel but thats just facts: we care about our friends and family, not about some random person we never met and probably dont even want to meet (just talking about myself here but I sure as heck dont want to have anything to do with these people, period). To impose ones convictions on others regardless of their opinions and circumstances is little more than hybris - and it shows.

I'm just here to like your video, nod my head along with almost everything you say in your video and watch me some much needed pupdates that always brighten my day and make this vitriolic gaming environment (and infighting) we're currently living with, so much better.
I feel like people, from both sides, are taking some things to the extreme and sometimes take things so seriously that they end up hurting someone's irl work, fmaily, life etc. Both sides are forgetting that, at the end of the day, when our time finally comes none of us will be thinking about any of this at all. People are ruining other people's lives over a disagreement they had online about a game that 1 like and the other didn't 🤦‍♀️
Edit to also say that I am on the more Conservative side as you said and I concede that this kind of thing sells. All we said is that going from the "transification" of women to the other extreme of oversexualing them is equally bad and that we, personally, won't buy such games either. For some reason this was interpreted as us trying to "ban games"? 🤷‍♀️ 😂 like I said on X with someone I had this convo with I am all for free will and speech etc. People can enjoy whatever they like but I don't have to pretend that it isn't immoral or degenerate. Just like those people will judge me for being a religious/Conservative puritan. The difference is I don't take offense because ofc not everyone will agree with me and I feel confident in what I believe in.

I will always feel odd when it comes to movies, tv, and games. When you are consuming visual media, it is usually appealing to look at. There is sexualization of most characters as it is the easiest way to quickly sell a character to an YA and older audience. The arguement of over or under sexualized reminds me of the Rivet drama a few years back.
The Intergalactic trailer had a vibe that I love of 80's neon ridiculousness. The characters looked perfect for the broker having that era of David Hasselhoff's Nick Fury/Kurt Russel's Snake Plisken, the pilot's jacket of Back to the Future/Micheal Jackson's Thriller. It's why I loved the movie Drive, the game Far Cry: Blood Dragon, and the short film Kung Fury. As for under or over sexualized is such an odd arguement. If the game is fun and the aesthetic fits then I would argue that it was a successful design.
❤ Violet is so precious! ❤

I saw this tweet on Twitter when I was just trying to post some sprites I was working on and accidentally went to the Home page. I thought about responding to it with some sly comment.
For the record, Stellar Blade is slightly over the top for me, but I'm not as against that kind of portrayal as I used to be.
"The looks are more important than the character"
The biggest issue with this argument is that appearances are important. Especially in visual media. That being said, it is true that personality also DOES matter. I think both are pretty important in both reality and in fiction.
Nobody wants to be dating someone they're not attracted to. However, the personality can also absolutely kill the relationship, too.
Visual media is a bit different because its a lot easier to make things highly attractive without any consequences. In reality, beautiful people tend to be shallow. It shouldn't be that way. As a Christian, I believe that God wants men and women to act as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside, and maintaining beauty as much as possible is a genuine good.
That being said, you shouldn't be so shallow to the point where you're like "oh you're just not beautiful enough for me." That is shallow, but for the most part this honestly doesn't happen THAT much.
However, visual media is by no means the same principle. In visual media the ideal should be to make whatever property it is as attractive as possible, including the characters. The heroes (men and women) should both look good, with some variety. I don't want all of them to be like Eve from Stellar Blade but making everyone look like trash is also bad.
Other characters can be unattractive or not depending on who it is, but it highly varies. The context must make sense for it. (Which includes no obese adventures, it doesn't make sense.)

Video Games as a whole shouldn't be used as hollow vessels for political propaganda, ideology pushing, or to be drenched in indentity politics.
I just want good games that don't hold punches just because they don't want to offend the "modern audience" that isn't even buying the games they are having made for "them".
Idc if it's right wing or left wing.
I just want good games, good chracters, fun game play and passion out into it.

So-called "representation/diversity/inclusion" initiatives produce bad art, because the initiatives are bad for art; these will always be at the expense of good-storytelling and characterization.
Characterization should not serve the reader, it should serve the narrative; characters are not people, they are more-so archetypes or personas, and should be made compelling, rather than “relatable”. As a base example, one should not want Superman to be like them, but instead, one should want to be like Superman. And there are surely instances where one should NOT want to be like certain characters; regardless, imposing one’s self into fiction is self-defeating .. it's an erosion of aspiration and a catalyst for narcissism.
Effectively, representation is misrepresentation, diversity is monotony, inclusion is exclusion, etc. Consider the outcome as the intent, rather than whatever the proposed intent is. The outcome has been subversion of long-standing norms, demotivation, deconstruction of morality, degradation of standards, etc.; constant erosion at the foundations of civilization, by bastardizing its mythology..

Why the hell do these people think that it's any different to portray women as incredibly beautiful and exceptionally attractive featured to that of portraying men as either incredibly attractive, muscular or defined and with an ruggedness that would be considered desirable? Even the "ugly" soldiers from Gears of War would likely net nearly any woman they desired. Or on the flipside, what about Nathan Drake? Solid Snake? Albert Wesker? Chris Redfield? Leon Kennedy? Dante? Geralt? You name it.. if it has a male protagonist they are generally attractive.
Videogames are not about representing the normal.. but to play as the exceptional. You always play an impossible story. Or at least most of the time you do. The characters also need to thus be exceptional. Their attractiveness can be part of that. It's not about setting a standard, it's about being fascinating and intriguing.

It's very simple if you take the time to read (or have other people read and summarize, for the sake of your sanity and soul) the philosophies and stated goals of groups that flooded the western world after the "glorious revolution" of the USSR failed to produce heaven on earth. Reality isn't repulsive, but they desperately want it to be. The people who settled into media and academia desperately want the world to be both repulsive and hypersexualized, everything revolving around narcissistic self-love and the denigration of natural beauty. Goodness is to be disparaged and the rightness of an action is to be based on who performs it, rather than the action determining the rightness of her person doing it.

I am bi woman, but I don't appreciate women with D+ cup and no support in skimpy outfits in my games only because it takes me out of immersion, I know the pain of having large chesticles with no sport bra intimately, a frequent 1d4 bludgeoning damage to my own jaw on PE classes provided me with plentiful reality checks for life. And you know what? I just don't play Asian eyecandy, I always gravitated towards Western designs. That being said, I also don't like looking at unappealing, uncanny supposed know-it-alls with TikTok/Twitter/Tumblr Americanese talk over and over and over again that we have had in the games for the past decade. I have to suffer one mid know-it-all daily in my mirror, and I also smell shallow thinking bs and writing lightyears away. BG3 was almost perfect balance for me, because characters all had conventionally or less conventionally attractive looks with sensible attires, and the writing sold me DnD with your dorky friends playing sobfest characters and edgy aeholes vibe completely. It didn't take itself too seriously despite being written smarter than every single AAA slop from across the pond. To be smart and to appear smart is not the same. The later is fate of not-so-smart pretentious posers, and we clown on posers.
