I'm sure since you're well into the game, you might know this stuff, but I wanna share some wisdom from my own playthrough.
When you get cats, on quests you can manage it, have only 3 cats cook for you. A lot of special, late game weapons need gold tickets which you can only get from having 3 cats cook for you X amount of times. Or maybe 4 cats. Just not 5.
Also white sharpness is busted, fully upgrading a garuga weapon will shred everything despite its lower raw, because white is purple in this game
Also this is the portable game of Mhg, so you have access to G rank, although it is super short and strange in this game lmao.

Monster Hunter 1 didn't have skill points, only a handful of predetermined set bonuses - full (three) kukku gives attack up small, for example.
Petting poogie in the first generation of games increases your quest reward rate, equal to (but doean't stack with) the "good luck" skill. the idea of poogie helping the player with items is explored a bit more in the Wii release of MHG and in Frontier Online, and kinda in 4 (cathangea)
kelbis get stunned in 3rd gen onward, from what i remember
mh2 got a full localization patch last year from the BREAK*ARTS team, definitely worth a playthrough if you like these older titles. very drastically different in how it handles both the offline and online content vs the other titles.
garuga did debut in this title! the JP version (mh portable) has the suprise appearance in the vprey quest, but then the later garuga hunt doesn't actually unlock unless you link the save with a MH2 save - the international version changed this (and other unlocks) since MH2 didn't leave japan.
faster climbing is introduced in MH2, and remains present in the 2nd gen psp titles; same for the map balloons

Hey! Thanks so much for the info. It's been so long since I've played some of these games that some of the stuff I think I remember just melds into other games.
From what I saw on the wiki, there seems to be like "invisible skill points." like there are certain armor that you can mix and match to get the desired effect. In my MH1 playthrough, I have a mixed set of Hunter and Battle armor near the beginning and hideous amalgamation of armors on pt 9!
I will definitely pet poogie more!
I was thinking it was MH3 with the kelbis getting stunned. I can't wait to get to MH3. MH3U may be one of my favorites.
When I get to the end of the series, I will probably play MH2. I feel robbed of that from my 20s. haha.
Again, thanks a ton for the info! I hope you're enjoying the series!

That garuga thing doesn't sound correct. I played through MHF1 last year and I could fight Garuga normally, like 15-20 times to get all the armor and a weapon. And that was on emulator.

@@shadowdragon1396 portable 1 (the jp release) needs the save link. freedom 1 doesn't. lots of small changes between the two's content.

@@monkybros ah you know what that explains it.
Idk about you but I thought how it was pretty cool the Garuga fight was like the gen 2 elder dragons, where he fled and came back at lower health.
Or I guess its more accurate to say the Elder Dragon Fights are like Garuga fights in gen 1 :P

20:37 although its just a myth in mainline mh. in frontier there actually exist 3 poogies that you can pet and they will give you a buff for the next hunt if you pet them
