I’ve come here looking for eltham family history and got sidetracked, after watching your video on the seven children’s memorial .
TFS. I just love the cemetery videos. So much history. 🙏💜
The ornaments or follies around the blue stone walled house are the work of the late Richard Marsh.
The new gravestones are the work of Eric Poulter, a direct descendant. The Greensborough Historical Society has biographies on most people in the cemetery, including some in unmarked graves. Check our GHS website for more info and contacts.
My Nans family are buried there but I'm unsure on their names. They grew up on William Street. Their house backed onto the train lines where the big block of units now stand. The house was still standing around 15 years ago. We went there to watch them demolish it. It was sad to see it go but it was no longer liveable! Great to see my old stomping ground! My siblings went to Montmorency Secondary, i went to Greensborough Secondary. When i was around 14 (20 years ago) a little baby was buried there apparently and it was the newest grave for quite some time! It also had a resident black cat that would often sit on a grave in the top corner! Always freaked me out as a teen! Another great video Thanks
Haha that cat sounds creepy! Glad you enjoyed
I believe there is a Poulter Reserve in Poulter Ave in greensborough
Hello. Video was great about the history of the cemetery and the founders and other residents buried there!!!
It says it was closed in 1963, but I have a distinct memory of seening a recent site used in the late 70's or early 80's. It was at the base of the cemetery nearest the train line.
Thankyou for sharing and the interesting backstory... will have to check this one out at some point. Stay well.
Glad you guys are doing good and all is well there!!!
Thanks for the video mate. Very interesting. 😃👍
Have a great day sir and be safe and careful!!!😊👍🙏
That bluebrick fence is soo nice. May have to build one like it when I win the lotto and get me first house 👌
Haha can I move in?
I've always wondered about cemetery's. Always said, after a certain amount of years they just build over them
Sadly true haha
Some of the graves are unmarked. You find that the ground raises in certain areas there which are the graves. I gave gone there a couple of times and always find out something new. So many interesting things about this area
In the olde days People were buried facing east. The rising sun warmed their faces.
Scott i love your videos, i always binge them! Wow Sims rd! Just around the corner from our school. Keep them coming, I love seeing the videos in our local area. Do some more in Doreen! I don't know if that creepy house is still there opposite the newish mernda Coles near the servo but I've always wanted to see inside it. Abandoned haunted looking place :D
Thanks em! I’ll have a look when I can get out there!
love these videos!
Thank you! I’ve got a few more coming!
nice vid Mui!
Thanks mate
Hi, This is Linda. Great video. We live in Haines Street, a short walk to the cemetary. I'm interested to find out the original geographics of the cemetary, as I know it was larger than it is now. I haven't been able to find an old map showing the original boundaries of the cemetary. Probably will try the Greensborough Historical Society. Does anyone run historical tours of the cemetary? I'm interested to do a tour.
As soon as you said Poulter I thought of the street and the reserve behind the station, they must’ve been massive around Greensy
Yeah it’s named after old mate.
Good video 🐱
Would love to see a video of the schwerkolt cottage it’s an awesome historic site in Mitcham really enjoy your videos
I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks
Gee it would be a bit eerie living in a house that was built upon an old cemetery. Not for me I’m afraid.
