The old school barber pole out the front of the menswear store near the main St entrance. A few shops up was this cafe, orange decor, American diner vibe, stools out the front. The staff would wear these well ironed, pink and white uniforms. My mum would order a cappuccino and have a smoke there in the early 80s
What a joy to see it all again in vivid colour. You can practically smell Darrell Lea in every frame. Bizarre how many long forgotten childhood memories came flying back in only 2 minutes - pointless memories & inconsequential details lodged in my brain until now. Thank you for this massive nostalgia trip.
wow. that brings back memories. I remember when it open too as a kid. I especially remember the "futuristic" glass lifts. In fact i remember all the stores in the clip and the levels they were situated without fault. We used to hand out during school holidays and run-around having fun ...it was the best!! Thanks a million for the video. (has is changed much?.........I see our gorgeous Greensborough Swimming Pool has been replaced by a monstrous car park and indoor pool building yuk and so sad!)
The original layout in this video is still there, even kmart is in the same spot. They have given it some extensions over the years adding more shopping corridors in what looks like the old car parks
I remember the old elevators. I used to call them 'rocket ships'. Someone I know remembered that when Greensborough Shopping Centre opened, the design was touted as being ultramodern. There was lots of lime green everywhere. The escalators between the levels were touted as being ultramodern too. The centre stage got used for lots of different things. School holiday pantomimes and magic shows, celebrity appearances, concerts by local school bands and Christmas carols.
This place was skateboard heaven for me and my mates back then. Just before it opened we managed to get inside and skateboard about the place before being chased of by the 'bloke'. When I was sixteen I got an after school job in the pharmacy on the ground floor sweeping up and stacking shelves. Had a crush on all the hot shop assistants that worked there. Friday nights just used to hang around with all the other teenagers on the top floor by K-Mart. Not been there for over 30 years. Thanks for posting Chris
Wow weird seeing how it is when it was first opened. Honestly looks really nice though. Funny how different the plaza is from when it opened to when I remember it in the early 2000s and then compared to now. Really shows the aesthetics of the eras
@@mattyo30 its the same building but the inside has been remodeled a couple of times, latest remodeling happened only a few years ago, mainly just updating the look to fit with current aesthetics
Yeah much different to how I know it. My mum has been going there ever since it opened and I’ve always gone there basically my whole life. My mum goes there so she started taking me and it’s my favourite shopping centre ever. It’s full of atmosphere and it’s amazing the amount of different vibes it gives off. Each place you go there’s a different feel.
Ohhhh this is so amazing. Wish we could go back in time and shop like that again
it actually looked a lot better then than it does now
YOU MANIACS! YOU RUINED IT

There was a lot of lime. Particularly on the top level
May I ask what celebrities?

Is it still the same building inside or has it been demolished/rebuilt since these photos were taken?

after school worked at coles as a bag packer and trolley kid while it was being built the coles car park was gravel and it was a bitch lol
I go there sometimes they need a bit of refurbishment and they also need to add a Woolworths inside and Big W to replace Target there in the future
It looks so different!
Any photos of the old twin cinema??
If only it was still like this, it’s such a dead ghost town now
this vibe is strange to say the least
