- Kia has never been known for performance vehicles but that all changed when they released the twin turbo V6 Stinger GT in October 2017. Out of the box the twin turbo V6 is good for 272kW or 364hp and will run a high 12-second quarter mile from the four door RWD family saloon.
HP-F (The Horsepower Factory) in Dandenong is now offering custom ECU remapping for the Kia Stinger. We took a look at two different modified GT examples and their dyno tuning results.

This car has not even been out for a year, to claim its "reliable" is just a talking point with no evidence. If you want to know how reliable a new car is you research other cars the same company has made, since kia is known for $hit quality (idc if it looks good or not) i can ASSUME that in around 2 or 3 years these cars are just going to end up being a pile of garbage.
Your opinion might differ from mine but only time will tell.
a good friend of me working in kia cyprus as a mechanic and when we was talking about stinger gt he said to me that the engine and gearbox are overbuild..kia wants to hit the eu market covering all the shit that other cars have in that category..i think kia is sharing the same gearbox as lexus isf as well...there is not more reliable auto gearbox than the 8 speed of isf v8 and kia stinger gt..all other dsg-tip-smg are all shit..they break even before 62.000 miles....

Fullboost a tuner called lap 3 has been tuning them in Korea for a while now because they had the car before most other countrys but so far I've seen 430 whp and 470 wtq with just an intake exhaust and intake and a tune
What does the tune do besides increase boost? Does it change fueling? Ignition? Timing?
Seriously impressive stuff. These Stingers are bloody weapons.

As a family man, these budget larger 4 door sedans are my life now. G6ET daily, but these would be cool to.
We have a shop Stinger that runs 11's and is tuned in house with our tuning software. Super excited to see what the KIA Stinger can bring to the competition.

Quit the arguments. The more performance cars we have to choose from the better I say. It looks ok to me. Kia has moved on from the terrible products they sold in the 90s. If you used the same logic and judged Holden by the JB Camira no one would buy a VF Commodore.

This car adapts so well to tuning it seems like the stock versions should be very reliable.
No shit!!! That’s awesome, even just the filter and tune was a pretty good upgrade from stock trim. It actually sounds not to bad for a v6.

I did the conversion and it turns out that's about 1200 American horse power.

Alex Monte as a q60rs owner mod for. Mod these cars are faster and make. More power, o wish we didn't get the 7 speed auto from the g37. It's so slow compared to the 8 speed trans in the stinger

This is really cool because it has the performance of something like a charger or ss sedan while still being able to have AWD and have a massive trunk and with a good tune exhaust intake and mabey a more aggressive cam you could probably make around 450-475 to the wheels which would be closer to 550 at the crank which is crazy for a kia
I personally wouldn't push it too much with all the factory internals.
100kw gain is clearly doable but engine longevity would have to be part of the sacrifice.
seen a post that says they have forged pistons and they are rated to 800hp
I have one. And the engineering in the motor is amazing .. there’s no exhaust manifolds The exhaust is built into the head which is water cooled The turbos are mirrored turbos. .. Garrett Honeywell’s. Car is way over built. And under tuned from factory.
justingeturgun commodore v6s also have the manifold built into the head. That's not amazing. Until it flies apart you will not know how good it is.

hit up marks workshop, based an hour out of the city no guarantee but he does all sorts of things but if anyone can itd be him, can check his stuff out on youtube aswell.
I can see a safe 450hp coming from this power unit, with some extra development time. Beyond that I think undoubtedly, the turbos will need to be changed.
It's still a Kia family V6 with an open-deck block. Would need some reinforcing pushing too much higher.

I don't quite understand why KIA didn't put 16 lbs boost from those turbos from the factory? My Stinger GT Limited AWD (Canadian version) is still 100% stock, and I love it. But I'm seriously considering a Borla exhaust for it.

Real mate, those of us with i6 turbos,,are gunna say, but... the v6 means 2 exhausts, 2, cats, 2 waste gates, 2 air filters, 2 turbos = 2 expensive.

Nor Dic I6 turbos are pretty awesome. But with the XR6 gone, this is certainly not a bad option.
performance wise its not bad but my vf clubby is NA pulling 420 rwhp and looks twice as good

Really good power for key ring turbos and stock intercooler, turbo upgrades and cooler will really wake them up.
@ChrisHallett83 i know mate and the turbos are matched quite well to the stinger. but.... an upraded set of turbos will flow more and in turn give a larger number on the dyno (which is what makes everyone pulls their dick over) T04b! lol thats 1990s turbos

Did they pull one of these engines apart completely and do their due diligence to see where the weak points of the engine will be...? Or are they simply putting more power into the engine to find the breaking pint...?
What guarantee's do they give that your engine will not destroy itself due to poor tune at any stage in the rev range in any conditions as a factory tune will guarantee...?
As you state the factory tune is for durability, not full power. You start pushing the engine output you will shorten its life. Unless you track a car what is the sense of pushing over 400 HP? All you'll get are traffic fines and/or jail.

oh wow.. wondering, i put same filters in mine, but no ecu tuning.. just filter swap.. you think that would do anything ? is a tune required by swapping these filters or will ecu make any adjustments on its own ?

i love how this shows (in my mind anyway) how detuned a factory car is for sake or compliance and warranty concerns. keep up the r&d. would love to upgrade the wifes yr old sportage but like most q asked - answer is no.......😁

Can you disable the speed limiter
A wide body Scat Pack Charger is a much better buy and is $6,500 less. With that $6,500 you can do long tube headers, custom tune, CAI, Cam and ported heads. 500+ to the tires. Easy 11 second car!

I have just bought 2017 Stinger GT and I am really waried by the rattle/ticking noise that is present especially at idle. Probably it comes form valves and is more hearable on the driver side. Is it normal?

Ben Lol dont think kias will be any better, until kia can prove their as solid and superior as japanese manufacturers who have been making turbo peformance cars since early 80's they have a long way to go yet

Ben this weighs the same as modern fords and Holden’s. Far superior in what way? It’s not going to be superior for power or torque over a FG Barra, s/c Miami or an LSA so that’s one aspect of superiority gone.
So what's left? A car with full exhaust and intake and he wants to explore the potential and its on the dyno, so why not do it?

sexyfacenation, I'd say they're creeping up on it to see how durable the engine and supporting systems are. You can't sell a product that lunches transmissions or pistons
Extensive R&D is at play.
Last thing a workshop needs is a reputation for blowing customer cars and lawsuits.
My guess would be more power would result in heatsoak and high intake temps after back to back dyno pulls due to the small intercoolers, resulting in knock. Until water/meth injection and/or E85 is incorporated.

Yeah you won't see 500hp unless you go bigger turbos even then you have to be really cautious idk how much your car was for $35,000 in the USA you can get a 18 GT with 10r80 auto trans E85 tune and 100 shot it's a low 10 sec car

Nise, but unless you have around 5K to 10K extra for exhaust, then cats and then the rest including labour then by all means go for it, just remember as long as you know that you need to make sure that if anything goes wrong with the car later on you only have yourself to blame, and i wonder if the factory warranty will cover it as well ( Not the tuners extra warranty) ? Basically like Walkingshaw upgrade with the Vf holden and how the Holden factory warranty will cover it if anything goes wrong in the 3 years from new and new upgrade. :)

I think the USA it's stuck with AWD if you want the V6.

This is early days of modification development for this engine. People shouldn’t compare it to 15 odd years of Barra development. Who knows outside of its design engineers what this engine is or isn’t capable of when pushed

The Johnny Tig air intakes and cooler look much better than the hpf version.... For a car with 20 more rwkw its not a lot of power for and exhuast and custom intakes. Probably 1 rwkw per $150

The Johnny Tig car is / was fitted with some sort of Tune box along with his intakes and exhaust and other mods. There is not a lot of power just adding 'bolt-on' parts like the intakes and exhaust, no matter how good they are. So without some way of increasing boost / fuel / timing your not going to make anywhere near this power and there is simply no better way to do that than with the factory ECU.

We have driven a privately owned Stinger that in stock form ran 12.7 at the street drags.
Fullboost Well a 2009 FG XR6 Turbo auto ran 12.509s at the drag strip stock standard! It did also actually ran a 12.7 using 2nd gear to take off same night, same drag strip in Sydney! Plenty of torque from those straight sixes. They will be missed!
