    My Shark died and I watch the video and decided to do nothing...for several months. Today, I bit the bullet and took it apart but did not find the dog hair I thought was there. I was eating lunch and picked up the wheel and turned it and it clicked. The other one turned appropriately. I took the malfunctioning left wheel apart to find it loaded with sand (I live in Florida). I cleaned it but alas and alack the damage had already been done and the drive gear for the wheel was stripped when it was forced to turn against the sand. Your directions were spot on and I appreciate them because without them I would never have even courageous enough to eventually find the answer.

      I have the RV850 (2), software issue within 6 months on both units. Shark replaced both units in August. Then within 5 months,December, the RIGHT driver wheel near motor was bound up. And I do clean the unit, 2 to 3 times a week, dust it out, check the wheels, filters, etc. The unit kept going in circles, grinding noise, then stopped working. YUP, dog hair and carpet fibers, deeply embedded around gear teeth, beneath teeth, inside assembly. I took off RIGHT drive wheel and motor (left was freely moving), unscrewed the 4 smaller screws and opened up the outer shell to inspect the inside. I did NOT fully disassembly as there is a larger PIN there... I haven't seen a video on taking the Drive Wheel and Motor Assembly apart (anyone?), BUT I could open it up enough and with a small tooth pick, pulled out all the hair and used compressed air to clear. Reassembly and it works. Not happy the unit picks up this much this soon, in the Driver Wheel Gears to disable the unit, but, if I can disassembly the setup, it'll be much easier.

    I’ve got the same issue on our R720. We’re on our second replacement bot from Shark, but third bot all together. When our second one made the grinding noise Shark customer service had no idea and told us to send it in. After getting the third bot, two weeks went by and the same noise. Definitely going to try taking it apart and testing the belt.

      Please see my comment on this video; I took mine apart and determined that the belt is simply too large and too narrow from the factory. I posted a link to what I can now personally attest is the correct belt.

    With the unit upside down, the right side of the brush itself. Pull that rubber cap off and the coppered colored wheel around the silver post of the brush. Mine had dog fur wrapped around. I removed it all and placed the brush back in the unit and that was the issue i personally had. Hope that may help someone else I took my whole unit apart, cleaned everything gave the motors a little grease. For dog fur to be the issue.. Thanks pupp!
    Great video, it was fun to be able to say I took apart and put back together a robot.

    I'm having the exact same issue (grinding noise just like your video sounds). I returned the first Shark Ion 750 because of this issue and received a replacement from store I purchased. Within 6 months had the same issue again. This time Shark is sending me a replacement brush. Haven't received yet as they said it would take 4 to 6 weeks. Obviously this is a common problem with these machines. If anyone has fixed this issue themselves, I would really like to hear what they did. I took the robot apart myself but didn't see any obvious issues.

  • @chuckvance3261

    Hi Dan, The issue is that the unit powers up, begins to run and shuts off after about 8 feet. The vacuum motor noise is considerably louder and the error message says the suction motor has stopped running. I've take n the unit completely apart and there is no blockage, so the next option would be to replace the suction motor assembly, BUT I can't find one anywhere. Any ideas?

    Great video! Hopefully you can decipher my issue. My ION runs for about 10 seconds - the vacuum seems to be louder than normal and then stops and I get the CLEAN button flashing RED along with a flashing "!". Error code says suction motor has stopped working. I have taken the unit completely apart, cleaned it, all filters cleaned- even vacuumed and blew it out with air. Still no luck.
    I know how to disassemble it but no luck.
    Any experience with this?

      Motor not so much but this is the correct belt here: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014KKRSLY.
      Factory belt is a Gates 132-2GT-4 which is literally too long and too narrow from the factory (I left a long comment on this video explaining it all). Correct belt is a 130-2GT-6.

    My take away is that fur bearing pets that shed in the house and robotic vacuums don't really mix well in terms of useful life on the machine. You would either have to D/C the cat or resolve to purchasing a new robot about four times (an estimate) as fast as normal.

  • @Dangrousdave20
    @Dangrousdave20 5 лет назад +2

    Isn't it funny that they use the tamper proof torx bits so you can't work on the robots yourself? And at the same time, have no department for repairing the robots that break over time? That's the most double douche thing i've ever seen a company do. I mean Jesus, it's one thing to make it hard to work on a product yourself, but at least allow us to send it off and get it repaired for $100 or something. I spent $350 on one and it broke at 1yr and 3 months. Damn they're good....Never f*ckin' again...

    Could you put a slightly larger gear on the motor side? It would mean a faster moving brush, but it would take up the slack in the belt. Here are a bunch to try for $8. www.amazon.com/JLMetal-58pcs-Plastic-Gears-Module/dp/B07JWDF71T
