Robin Williams also once stole a joke song from Burton Cummings of the Guess Who. It was an impersonation of Elmer Fudd singing the Pointer Sisters. Burton Cummings had done the same routine years earlier.

Seeing this video solidifies why Robin felt alone at times. Comedians steal jokes, its part of the game, but it seems like there was a point of ostracizing him from fellow comedians. I'm not upset that I'm seeing this now, it just helps me understand the path that led him to the decision he made.

"comedians steal jokes, its part of the game" No it isn't, yes some do steal, but most do not..people like to say that because it makes them feel even with comedians, they're not..robin was the biggest thief ever..

@rtothec1234 I'm not making him seem sympathetic, I'm saying I partially understand why he killed himself, a collection of stealing and not being original and then being seperate from other comedians who stayed in the craft. He must've felt like he could never compete with that originality, so he cyphoned that talent.

But, we don’t live in a dream world and, unfortunately good people do bad things and, I heard this way before his death and he tainted and, ended, sadly a lot of the friendships he had with his fellow comedians! This was why Johnathan Winters ended up ending his contract and, left Mork & Mindy and, that was why part of the show was ending. I was in shock because, I was such a huge fan of Mork & Mindy! Robin Williams gave to charities, did stand-up comedy for those in the military, visited his friend Christopher Reeves when he was at his lowest point, won an Oscar for his acting abilities and made a bunch of memorable movies. Clearly, he entertained millions, and anyone who met him, myself included, found him approchable, friendly, and charming. So the comedy theft part is finding out what subjects are funny? Didn't know comedians "own a subject." Two monks walk into a bar... hold it, pay me my royalty fee.

    • @bryede

It isn't about owning a subject as many subjects are common fodder for jokes. It's about the structure and style of a routine. These guys usually follow a code of conduct because a more popular comedian can destroy the livelihood of an upcoming comedian by rendering his act redundant. It's just a shitty thing to do to somebody, like turning in someone else's research paper as your own.

For those of us that love Robin Williams and think the world is a quieter place without him, this segment is unsettling. It will be hard to do now, but we have to remember that Robin first came to light because in his original standup shows, anything went! The crazier and zanier, the better! Saint Robin he wasn't and that's why we loved him! I saw several of his early shows and at least 95-100% of the material was original. But I am a musician and I know that using somebody's work is the sincerest form of flattery until somebody else pays you for it! Like many comedians, Robin carried a lot of demons around with him that we didn't see unless we knew what we were looking for, like drugs and memory lapses. One has to wonder as he got older if that played into it. Letterman was a good talk show host, so if he was upset, then Williams overstepped some boundaries badly. I don't know anybody in entertainment who got as big as he did without stepping on toes! That he would pay those that he admitted to stealing from is admirable: most would've made you take them to court! I believe he tried very hard to be a good man. I know he made me laugh in spite of myself. I can hear his joke about the stupid thing I just did that he cracked in a show years ago in my head and I just smile! A thief he may have been but he left the world a better place! Maybe he should have played Robin Hood! 😊

@@rickyjoeshippyful That is your opinion and your experience. So how about Robin in 1 Hour Photo? Robin has done so much. Even now I can put in Mrs. Doubtfire and laugh or Hook. RV, I really like RV. I liked World According to Grape the first tike I watches it! Ob! Oh! I really like "What Dreams May Come" Bad title. A lady loses her kids and later her husband Robin Williams and Robin works really hard to get his family together. I just watched Father's Day on VHS last nigh with Robin & Billy Crystal.

I don’t really know what you’re trying to accomplish with this honestly. No one is perfect. It wasn’t as if he killed someone. Maybe if he were still alive, you could draw attention to it just for clarity. But Robin passed away just over 10 years now. Seems pretty cruel or spiteful to do this now.

All comedians steal jokes! They might just tell them a bit differently! All the greatest musicians steal licks all the time, i.e. Chuck Berry was not the first to play the intro to Johnny be Good.

Joe Rogan is an asshole! I am around high profile people who dealt with him. I think many comedians take stuff from other comedians. I will always love Robin!

Everybody does it isn't true, and even if it was true, doesn't make it right. Comedians spend years honing their bits.

This video is a really sick collection of absolute lies. Williams was a total original. Of course there are similar bits to other comedians & he did most things improv, whatever came to his mind. Comedians all take from one another as do musicians, painters, sculptors, poets, etc etc. He was just a big target for extortion. He was successful, they were angry & jealous of his success. OF COURSE it was because of his stealing 1 crappy joke of there's that made him a worldwide phenomenon. Doesn't explain why most of those comics didn't achieve his level of success.
