They could get lucky and hit a joke that landed 1 out of 10 times, doing it consistently would be a hold other ballgame. The only big name they got who could not just keep up but made everyone bring their A game was Robin Williams. Charlie Sheen once tried it and it was a disaster.

People are gonna disagree with me but Carlos Mencia got better joke delivery than Joe Rogan. I get that its the same content but delivery is just as important if not more than the content itself.
That’s some BS. If you’re just going to vomit up other people’s words then you’re nothing more than a hollow, empty vessel. Where’s ole German Ned Arnel now? Lonely and alone with no real friends. You should despise “Carlos” for being a fake-ass Mexican. The dude’s whole existence is a lie.
Plus wasn't it just Mencia's show that ripped jokes? I never cared for the show but I saw Mencia live and had a great time. He's a very naturally funny person. Sure it's a lot of oldschool "race based" humor but it's funny and he kills with it.
Years ago, Joe actually described Carlos as being really great at delivering other people's jokes. So even if the internet disagrees with you, you can feel good knowing Joe Rogan agrees!
It's interesting how different comedy is from music though they're both performance based. In music, all classical musicians primarily play other people's music. Few people are writers, the majority are performers. Robin was a great performer.
@@mnplumberman You would have to actually claim it as your own, which does'n't happen in comedy. At the end of a joke, a comedian is not going to say, "that bit was written by name," but in music, there is obviously a place to write it down.
@mnplumberman This analogy sounds great on surface but falls flat in reality. When playing at a bar or venue, like comics, musicians do not end every cover song with a full list of credits on who wrote the song. But I'm not equating the two. I'm saying it's interesting how the medium are so different.
joe still brings up carlos but never bothers to say the same for amy shumer and brendan shuab. and Carlos was still funnier than all of them. just saying carlos deserves a second chance when alot of comedians in the industry are all stealing
To be clear, the Mencia shit is arguably the crux of his entire success in his comedy career. Respectfully, Joe Rogan is not a particularly good comic. He became so respected in the community because he was willing to publicly confront a joke-stealing comedian who was way more successful than he was at the time, and he was convincing enough to get people on his side. Until then, he was just the Fear Factor and MMA guy. After that, he was recognized as a real comedian, even though it really wasn’t about his jokes as much as his street cred within the community. Anyway, all I’m saying is that the Schumer and Schaub stuff doesn’t really benefit him to talk about. Mencia, however, was what sent him into orbit.
Carlos Mencia was NEVER funny... that sh*t was corny then and it's still corny now.. he's just not funny.. if u think he is you're just not a true comedy fan

No comedian was more spontaneous on stage than Robin Williams, with the possible exception of Jonathan Winters. From what I’ve seen, Williams did mostly his own material.
It's a well known thing in the industry that he was a joke thief. Rogan did stand up in the same circles as him so he knows this to be true. He stole jokes and reworked them and sometimes he would pay people for their jokes. You're just in denial because you're a fan.
Robin Williams admitted to doing this. He said he never meant to, but would lose himself in the moment, and do other people's bits. He sad he apologized with money. Can't say if he was generous or not.
_Bill Hicks_ tripped so much he was able to time-travel. He went forward in time, Copied all _Dennis Leary's_ material ~ went back in time and delivered it 100% BETTER!

I love Robin Williams as much as the next person, but we honestly have no idea who he really was. Hollywood is weird and most in it are weird too. All any of us can say is, he was a phenomenal performer.
Robin Williams was brilliant. Case closed. Far too unique. Far too creative. He wasn't a phony talent. Whatever his imperfections were as a "pure" comedian don't compare to his actual gifts as a performer.
Its widely attributed to Pablo Picasso, but the funny thing is he likely wasn't even the first to say it. Ultimately all art, science, culture, language, etc is defined by borrowing elements and manipulating them. That said I think there is a pretty clear distinction between being influened by someone and stealing a joke word for word or the exact same premise.
I think you and some other people on here have the ancient quote "speak of the devil and he shall (doth) appear" confused with the cultural ideal that we shouldn't speak ill of someone after they're dead and cannot defend themselves. One thing I hate about the internet is millions of people catch about three words out of a paragraph and think they know what they're talking about. The internet has created a world of exceedingly ignorant know-it-alls.
Joes whole new special is other peoples jokes!! He needs to stop. He talks about actually writing his immature crap. Physically writes that shit down. Practices it, manipulates the words in belief that he is "honing his craft", then actually recites them to large groups of people, repeatedly in different locations. Its not manipulation at all. Its not narcissistic. Its not delusional. Im not sure what it is, but it is definitely borderline pathetic.

It's totally normal stiling jokes as in any business...but how you introduce them it's the real challenge
I remember hearing robins "harder than Chinese algebra" joke from another comedian years before Robin used it.
Yeah but that was a street joke when you heard the first guy do it
It was a saying. My dad said it. Harder than Chinese arithmetic.....I guess you ride a elehator to work.
I could always tell whether or not Robin stole a joke based on whether or not I found it funny.
Word is Amy Schumer stole from Dane Cook, who stole from Carlos Mencia, who stole from Robin Williams who stole from a homeless guy.
I remember Robin telling a Michael Jackson/ Neverland Amusement Park joke about being a certain height to " ride Michael."
This was during the Michael Jackson/ Pedophile allegations but I remember Robin's punchline was told previously by another comedian
Williams was aware and apologetic about it. He wrote checks to people when he realized he took their jokes.
That's not true
He only paid once THEY realized he stole their jokes.
Total dirtbag. I believe it had a lot to do with his depression that took him out. All that success and he knew it was off the backs of actual comics.
@@TheDwightMamba I've never heard a comedian describe him as a dirtbag.
@@christianfinkbeiner684 , a joke thief is a dirtbag.

This.

Mark Twain liked a passage in a book so much, he later used it as if it was his own. When the author wrote to him about it, Twain said he forgot he didn't write it himself.
I like Twain and I believe that was possible - for him in particular.
Because he also told a story about chuckling at his own books in his library. Apparently, once he "gave birth" to the ideas in his head, he let them go. So he didn't remember all the humourous ideas he came up with.
he read someone else's work and couldn't remember if he wrote it or not?

Didn't realize Robin Williams had so many HATERS based on some of these comments. The hate for him is UNREAL. Williams uplifted a lot of people with his genius talent, passion, and overall personality. The man didn't have an evil bone in his body.
What goes on in your mind of mencia?
Plus wasn't it just Mencia's show that ripped jokes? I never cared for the show but I saw Mencia live and had a great time. He's a very naturally funny person. Sure it's a lot of oldschool "race based" humor but it's funny and he kills with it.
Years ago, Joe actually described Carlos as being really great at delivering other people's jokes. So even if the internet disagrees with you, you can feel good knowing Joe Rogan agrees!
At least he didn’t kill his wife and her waiter
It's interesting how different comedy is from music though they're both performance based. In music, all classical musicians primarily play other people's music. Few people are writers, the majority are performers. Robin was a great performer.
Do classical musicians play Beethoven and claim it is their own though.
He’s spoke on Amy before
To be clear, the Mencia shit is arguably the crux of his entire success in his comedy career.
Joe was just butthurt Mencia took a joke and made it funnier.

Everyone on this earth is a knowledge theif. Every single aspect of bettering yourself Is learning. Difference is in academics numbers are numbers. Inspiration is inspiration. And tbh if robin williams became the star of so many childhood films because he researched and educated himself on comedy then thank him for doing that.

Its widely attributed to Pablo Picasso, but the funny thing is he likely wasn't even the first to say it.
