A friend of mine was a dead ringer for Robin Williams. Shortly after Williams passed my friend came down with ALS and took the same path as Robin before he became a total invalid. It’s been two years and I still can’t wrap my head around it.
Some have suggested others who could come close to keeping up with Robin but I have a couple not yet mentioned. I once saw a comedy special with Robin, Billy Crystal and the incomparable Dudley Moore. Once Dudley found his stride in that show Robin sat down, Billy as well and both of them laughed so hard they could hardly breathe. We seldom if ever got to see Dudley 'let it go' but he was absolutely brilliant. RIP Robin and Dudley.
Some people are just naturally funny and a lot of times those people do not mix well, but every now and then you get a great comedic duo or trio, ect. Its a shame these 2 didnt do more work together. You can tell in Robins laugh that he genuinely finds Craig funny. One has the original idea and the other rubber bands off it and its back and forth and its a snowball effect.
The mutual admiration for each other is clear. Craig was one of the few that could keep up with Robin. You see it when Robin genuinely laughs at Craig’s jokes. RIP Robin. The world misses you.

These two riffing together. . . it's an improv seminar. . . it's like they're not on a show, but in the back end of a bar, or sitting in the backyard at the most amazing party in history. This wild genius forces Craig to play an actual late night host. "I love it when you're here. I can relax." Rest in Peace
Craig is the best talk show host ever. Literally everything about a talk show is disregarded. Nothing plugged. Nothing normal. He had a genius symbiotic relationship with all his guests. A one off. Absolute genius.
I miss his show. No tonight shows compare to his old show. He needs to come back land bring late night shows back to life!! Give the current ones a run for their money!!
Craig's the only host that can cognitively keep up with Robin and feed his funny bone at the same time. The kinetic energy here is exhaustingly funny and nearly overwhelming. They're both one of a kind.
A man that would light up a room with laughter, one of the greatest comedians ever, and just an absolute gentleman. He did so much for the world, sadly we weren't able to do the same for him. You'll be missed Robin Williams. Sincerely thank you for everything you gave us
Robin had dewey dementia, you can live up to 6 years but in my experience with a family member it was 1 year, horrible to watch a person lose who they are and then lose body control before dying. Its unimaginably terribly difficult to watch a loved one die from this. Had he not did that he'd been gone soon , he didn't want that who can blame him.
@@chickenman7801how can "some people" be so heartless, cruel and mentally cursed? Let us compassionate ones pray and try try, try to speak love and spread peace to the best of our ability. J. God bless you.
Craig is one of the few chat show hosts who could keep up with the speed of Robin Williams! The way the two could feed off each other's humour was unique and wonderful.
What makes Robin Williams so great is the fact he didn't even have to do Craig's show. He could have just done Letterman or Leno and called it a day, but instead chose Craig because he's a genuine fan of him. Not many celebrities like him these days or ever..
In my opinion there has never been, or ever will there be another man with the ability to match the comedic genius that was Robin Williams. He had a special kind of magic and truly funny bones.
@@audreymai2773 even better, I was in the audience once. They were amazing. I was doing some project for HBO. Normally I didn't go to comedy shows (everyone smoked non-stop, still shy away from comedy clubs). I got to meet Williams several times. He bought one of my products, a bike training system. He asked me if it would help him get faster. I told he could cut his drag 6% if simply shaved. He burst out laughing. That, made my day. He was a really hairy guy LOL.
I agree and Robin is one of the first guests that kept Craig on his toes! It’s usually the other way 😆! They would’ve made a dynamite duo just free-styling conversations!
This is what happens when real friends get together. They just happen to be in front of others. We get to laugh and receive the enjoyment. So sad that Robin didn't choose a different way of dealing with his issues. He was an amazing person and a remarkable comedian. Very missed. Peace and Love to all! Stay safe.
To be fair though, it wasn't Craig's job to keep up with him, (and of course nobody ever could) Craig worked seamlessly and effortlessly during that interview. A joy to watch.
I've never heard Robin Williams laugh until now. He spent all his life making us laugh but thanks to Craig the legend was genuinely laughing and having great time. We all miss him
Because he started with laughing at himself and because the jokes were (like Jonathan Winters) characters from remembered people, and because his humor was fundamentally kindly. Maybe he *didn't* like the people he riffed but he made you believe he did.
@@trifien007 I don't know if I would have used the same language, but your assessment is spot on. Look at Robin Williams more serious works; Dead Poets Society, Awakenings, Mrs.Doubtfire, The Birdcage, etc. The characters he played were often compassionate and caring, just like the man himself. Sure, he played a few creepy and somewhat evil roles, but that is just a testament to his creative flexibility. Some people are going to get offended no matter what you do or say. Robin had this genius way of taking even the most offensive joke and making the majority of those who would be offended laugh at it. Did he ever cross the line? Sure. But there isn't a comedian out there who hasn't. That doesn't mean he was a bad person or, for that matter, took himself seriously when he made potentially offensive jokes. He was a genuine soul that loved everyone, and that was reflected in his comedy, offensive or otherwise. We miss you, Robin!
Robin Willaims gave so much entertainment. No matter when, where, and who he was with. If there was a crowd or a camera, he would do his magic. He will always be remembered and remembered by many. He will never forgotten. I like to think of his voice and attics being forever echoing in time...and of course Jonathan Winters with him.
Andy Kaufman was another actor/comedian who was brilliant, although nobody measures up to Robin Williams IMHO. Robin was also a good dramatic actor. One of my favorite movies he made with Robert De Niro was "Awakenings." I also loved "The Fisher King."
IKR? and when Craig asked "Did you actually say 'Chlamydia, you're dad's here?' that Robin would say 'Yes...5 minutes ago!' RIP Robin, gone but NEVER forgotten.

The chemistry, and their mutual admiration gets me every time. Carson was a huge fan of him too. All the smart hosts were. You simply realize genius when it appears.
I think this is the first time I ever heard Robin cracking up - normally he is always making others laugh but Craig got in a few good ones that got Robin chortling and cackling like I've never heard. This was awesome.
@@kelleewolfe2834 Kind of sad, isn't it? He spent so many years making us laugh we never stopped to notice his laughter (or lack thereof)... Oh sure, he had those breathy little exhale laughs accompanied by the big grin, but those were usually either while in-character, or while he was doing his act on stage (when he was "on") - rarely his own genuine laughter like we see here. I would dare say we took him for granted... along with many others...

He also is the master of switching topics when it gets a little too deep or too many jokes running that are sexual nature so that way it is more flirty and fun versus being a creep or predatory.
I'd call Robin Williams a supernova of comedy, but that would undersell the amount of energy he radiates.
These two riffing together. . . it's an improv seminar. . . it's like they're not on a show, but in the back end of a bar, or sitting in the backyard at the most amazing party in history.
This wild genius forces Craig to play an actual late night host. "I love it when you're here. I can relax."
Rest in Peace
I wouldn't say "force" him to. They were friends. That was Craig's approach to the show. :)
The way they manage to complement each other and improvise is pure talent
Craig is the best talk show host ever. Literally everything about a talk show is disregarded. Nothing plugged. Nothing normal. He had a genius symbiotic relationship with all his guests. A one off. Absolute genius.
I miss his show. No tonight shows compare to his old show. He needs to come back land bring late night shows back to life!! Give the current ones a run for their money!!
I'm so happy that Robin can feel free on this show. I love them both. But this freedom that Craig created. Thank you for putting this up.
Craig's the only host that can cognitively keep up with Robin and feed his funny bone at the same time. The kinetic energy here is exhaustingly funny and nearly overwhelming. They're both one of a kind.
Honestly you are so right, most people would just nod and make a few comments
@@monkeybandit222 Imagine if they were both still on coke during this interview.
@@craigchastain7016 I think it might affect Craig but Robin would just be the same, maybe a bit more crazy than usual.

Just horrible articles saying he wasn't bankable anymore while he was losing his mind.

Perhaps Craig reached an arrangment with the network to allow Robin a long leash, and Robin couldn't resist.
@@Michael-xe3dn long leash? Mans was unleashed, the way he belly laughed, never seen him laugh like that, ever.
There were comedians, and then there was Robin Williams. It's amazing how fast he could change the subject, and how smooth his transitions were.
In my opinion there has never been, or ever will there be another man with the ability to match the comedic genius that was Robin Williams. He had a special kind of magic and truly funny bones.
Don’t see people that genuinely made Robin Laugh . Craig did this numerous times .

I swear Craig and Robin shared some comedic DNA - the way they fed off each other was amazing,
Rare to see Robin 'really' laugh, Ferguson is one of the rare people that is both fast enough and smart enough to do so.
Have you watched Robin and John Ridder together?
@@audreymai2773 even better, I was in the audience once. They were amazing. I was doing some project for HBO. Normally I didn't go to comedy shows (everyone smoked non-stop, still shy away from comedy clubs). I got to meet Williams several times. He bought one of my products, a bike training system. He asked me if it would help him get faster. I told he could cut his drag 6% if simply shaved. He burst out laughing. That, made my day. He was a really hairy guy LOL.
Love them both, watching till I laugh while crying! So witty and on the spot! RIP Robin🥺✌🏼
Stay safe.
These 2 together are gold!!! Craig is as close to his equal as anyone could be.
I’ll argue for Jonathan Winters.
Craig was one of the few people in the world who could *_almost_* keep up with Robin.
Nah lol he kept up with him pretty well.
Almost, he would be a hard act to follow.
To be fair though, it wasn't Craig's job to keep up with him, (and of course nobody ever could) Craig worked seamlessly and effortlessly during that interview. A joy to watch.
Almost
if there is one.. Craig came the closest.. props
Their chemistry is amazing!!!! And to see Craig able to make Robin laugh with his same improv is just awesome!!!
I've never heard Robin Williams laugh until now. He spent all his life making us laugh but thanks to Craig the legend was genuinely laughing and having great time.

Robbin Williams was able to offend anyone and anything and still be loved
Because he started with laughing at himself and because the jokes were (like Jonathan Winters) characters from remembered people, and because his humor was fundamentally kindly. Maybe he *didn't* like the people he riffed but he made you believe he did.
@Transportia That may be the most genius description of Robin William's humor I've ever read.
It's because you can tell that there was no malice behind his jokes, plus people weren't such big pussies just a few short years ago.
All hail Robin and George Carlin

Robin Williams was one of the few of the "Hollywood-types" I ever really mourned. I was heartbroken when he left us 💔
Me too
Robin and now Meatloaf. The only two.
George Carlin. Naw, he wasn't really Hollywood type.
I'm watching this again..I lost count at how many times I've watched this and it never gets old
Yep, same here
I'm forever in love with the notion that Craig went back in time several minutes to be amazed at the "Chlamydia, your Dad is here" comment
I have to agree! Him acknowledging that slam dunk from Robin was a slam dunk itself!
Yeah why did it take him so long?
IKR? and when Craig asked "Did you actually say 'Chlamydia, you're dad's here?' that Robin would say 'Yes...5 minutes ago!' RIP Robin, gone but NEVER forgotten.

Can't understand why Craig Ferguson went off the air. He's funnier than all the Late Night show hosts combined
I agree; but he wanted to leave and do other projects, and the studio kept upping his contract.
And I think he wanted time for his family
No way he'd still be on the air now anyway. He'd offend too many people.

Kind of sad, isn't it? He spent so many years making us laugh we never stopped to notice his laughter (or lack thereof)... Oh sure, he had those breathy little exhale laughs accompanied by the big grin, but those were usually either while in-character, or while he was doing his act on stage (when he was "on") - rarely his own genuine laughter like we see here. I would dare say we took him for granted... along with many others...
