@Grace Garlock Wikipedia is reporting it accurately. If you read the article on Wikipedia about Bran Castle, you will see that the Romanian government decided to officially make Bran Castle "Castle Dracula" to bring in tourism dollars, despite historians being quite certain Vlad never visited the castle in his entire life. So, people mix them up AND wikipedia is reporting it "wrong" precisely BECAUSE Romania intends it to be that way.
Bram Stoker, after seeing an illustration of Bran Castle in a book, chose to base the castle of his fictional vampire on its design and location. There is indeed very little - if anything - to link Bran Castle with Vlad Dracula the Wallachian Prince. Just check the Castle's own web-site: www.bran-castle.com/dracula.html
But did you guys know that the original vampires where from Styria, Austria and that even Dracula was originally meant to be styrian, but the author decided to use a transylvanian castle instead, because the area was less densly populated and therefore better fit the scary atmosphere.
I'm from Brazil, and I always wanted to visit Romania. I'm going this August and if you have some information you'd like to share, I'll be glad. At the moment in planning to visit Bucarest and Brasov, would you recommend any other place to go? Thank you in advance ☺️

Greetings from southern CA :) Lau you have a beautiful homeland! I hope to visit it one day. I know right now Castle Poenari is closed due to bears but if it ever re-opens, I wish to visit Vlad's castle and pay my respects to him. He truly was a champion for his people. And yes you are correct, legends never die. Vlad III will live on for all time.
Anyone can read the true story of Vlad Dracula on Wikipedia. Since so many tourists came to Romania and wanted to see a place that has a connection to Dracula (and because other citadels where he actually lived in are much harder to get to) someone chose Bran as that place to mimic Dracula's place. But Transylvania was then under Hungarian rule (Bran region was populated by Germanic people) and Vlad was a prince in Wallachia (southern Romania) so he was just a visitor to Bran & locked there. Actually Vlad was taken by the ottomans to Istanbul as a kid then returned to fight them at home because he was a devoted Christian as his father. His father was a member of the Dragon Order, a Christian order (following the footsteps of the Crusades orders) of the Holy Roman Empire meant to fight the enemies of Christianity.
I found that out a while ago too, there isnt even an actual Dracula castle. Stoker was inspired by a couple different castles in the Calamani mountaints

Regarding the story of Dracula...many say that the popularity of this infamous vampire prince exists today not because of Bram Stoker, or Hollywood, it's because of the wonderful interpretation of first ever Dracula character which was Bela Lugosi, also a Romanian of Hungarian ethnicity born in Lugoj, Banat region. Funny thing!
Andrei Piatra he was not Romanian, because, as you said 1. Hungarian 2. He could not have been a Romanian, as Transylvania was not in Romania in that time. Only ethnic Românians where Romanian in those times. Yet yes, he was Transylvanian. Ps: I am a Romanian myself
Andrei Piatra of course Lugosi is to be credited everything else is just an impersonation and lacks the Magyar authenticity imo. I also resent that Dracula is considered a monster Vlad actually was a great hero to his people so he was made out to be a monster? Would be better if just evil people were preyed on for blood that's what I would do if I was a Vampire.

The hike up can be dangerous, a couple of people have fell to their death climbing to it. However it's the REAL deal, not some fantastical "movie Dracula" tourist attraction.
@@waynepurcell6058 thankyou for the info Wayne much appreciated.
@@waynepurcell6058 That’s sooooo crazy Wayne. Thanks for the info!
Era roman, da-l dreacu! 😁
Andrei Piatra Eu sunt Dracul!
