    Awesome video guys. I just want to throw in my two cents for people looking to visit the sanctuary. I did the overnight trip with the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary in November last year, and by the end of the second day, I began to have some reservations about the sanctuary. We started off in the same as you, Camp 1 & 2. These camps in my opinion were absolutely amazing. The elephants there are so happy, they get to roam in the forest at night and it is just a beautiful experience. But on our 2nd day we went to Camp 5 to sleepover, and spent the next day visiting a few more.
    After a while you get to see just how many people are visiting the sanctuary. The numbers are big. I saw a family of elephants huddling together and trying to sneak off because they didn't want the mud bath, but they were dragged and pulled in because a bus load of tourists were waiting. Also, unlike Camp 1 & 2, the other camps chain the elephants up at night because they are nearer to farmland. This means they spend the day herded around for tourists and their nights chained up. There is no break for them, and they don't really get much chance to exhibit natural behaviour and/or just be.
    Now, don't get me wrong, these sanctuaries give the elephants a new life filled with love and respect. What the sanctuaries have done to raise awareness about these elephant's lives is incredible. But if you do go, maybe just be aware that these elephants are still being worked for tourism, even if it is to a much lesser degree than what they have suffered before. It was a profound and amazing experience, but I just wanted to share another side that I only saw because I stayed for a couple of days.
    Beautiful video though as always :)

      Chesca is Lost nice write up. Was wondering what would be different about this place compared to elephant nature park.

      Yes... I've noticed it is still a biy touristy thing for me... With all the elephants ride n the things you mentioned.... I would prefer the Elephant Nature Park anytime... Lek is more opened and sincere

    • @Neednoy2
      @Neednoy2 5 лет назад +14

      They chain the elephants up so they won't destroy the farmland nearby. The neighbors won't complain or kill them. If it's not for tourists money the elephants have no way to earn a living. The staff have to balance it out which they are trying very hard. No place is perfect to your standard. Or is it?

    • @VeroDWH
      @VeroDWH 5 лет назад

      Chesca is Lost , do you know any other option? I’m researching and until now, I have Elephant Nature Park, Elephant Jungle Sanctuary and Elephant Retirement Park. I think the last one doesn’t have a big crowd in their programs, but not really sure.

    I'm going to Thailand from Australia in mid July. And spending 4 nights in Chiang Mai. I wasn't sure what sanctuaries to visit because of animal abuse. After watching this video I definitely want to come to visit this place.
    Great video, and looking forward to spending time with the elephants. They just put a big smile on my face :)

      It can't come around soon enough. Spending 3 weeks in Thailand. First time ever going overseas, and going on my own. Going to be quite an adventure.
      Going to Udon Thani, Pattaya, Koh Samet, Chathanburi, and Koh Chang. Then Back to Bangkok.
      Just watched your other video. It's got me even more excited.
      Where do you rent scooters and know your way around? I suppose being a popular tourist destination there will be plenty of help.
      Thanks again :)

      Sounds like a great trip - good mixture of places. We rent from Cat Motors, great company and close to Nimman road. But like you said, easy to get around and use data on your phone and map there.

    The Hands Off Program, created by Lek, at the Elephant Nature Sanctuary in Thailand, is the only way to truly FREE elephants. If tourists love the elephants so much and are truly interested in their welfare, donate to Lek, so she may provide more elephants with the comfort of home. She is the Elephant Whisperer. I know, they cannot go back to the wild, but there is another alternative.. Please go to you tube and view her program.. Thanks so much for all who sincerely love elephants.

    I was in mai sa valley. 2005. We went there to escape the aftermath of tsunami. Not good. Anyway, all these elephants were behind the fence with all the mahouts, I looked at the big male and winked and said “you ok mate” he winked back. Yes he did. I double checked with the people I was with them I did it again. He winked again. Swear to god.magic. They are very clever and totally magic. X

    Thanks Dane and Stace for this wonderful video ❤ I strongly agree that riding elephants is a form of abuse. I've seen chained elephants being put on an unhealthy environment for the sole purpose of human entertainment which is so heartbreaking (I personally saw one when I visited Ayutthaya, Thailand last year). This video makes me want to visit Chiang Mai right now and hang out with these cute elephant squad 🐘🐘🐘 Thanks for bringing awareness and so much love to these gentle giants. Happy travels ❤

    Excellent video. Very educating about elephants. i have to agree with the local folks, elephants are very gentle and very smart. I wish humans stop hunting them for their tusks - it's cruel.

    Makes me wanna go to Chiang Mai. It's always nice being one with nature...plus with these ginormous creatures. In the PH we only have one elephant.

    We had this experience this year in Khao Lak. It's a unforgatable moment to see this majestic giants when tey are "free". We think it's a good way to do this Elephant Sanctuarys. It's much better than this .... trekking.

    Wow! Such beautiful Elephants! At first I was wondering what was up with your matching outfits? hahaha.. Pretty amazing for you guys to see the elephants so close up and get to feed them. And bathing in the mud? hahaha... so much fun. Was the water cold? Looks like a great day.

    • @DanegerAndStacey
      @DanegerAndStacey  6 лет назад

      Ha the matching outfits is pretty funny, they actually give you one each to take away as well which is cool. Definitely an amazing experience - the water was actually freezing, but the day was quite cold so that didnt help!

And they are just like a human but just doesn’t talk or any of that but they live like human and it’s unfair some animals get abused! Please help to stop animal abuse! And I love ppl that don’t abuse them!:)
