- Ever buy a car because of the aftermarket head units available for it? I would by lying if I said I wasn't drawn to the E46 partially due to the availability of these OEM-style head units. Check in for future videos where I answer the question: are they any good though?

Not gonna lie I was like where is he gonna put the HVAC panel and other stuff and when I saw how it relocates to that other dash kit i was like NICE. and yeah when all installed it looks 1000% OEM wow!
Whoa... not bad! Crazy how cheap these units have gotten... I remember from my Z28 days an Alpine radio was nuts! Glad I found this channel through Hoovie. Love the down to earth personality.
Sweet head unit, neat that it also can tie into OBD2. Also, awesome that your wife tells you to wrap up your projects so you can play video games!! You are living the dream.
I have recently put this head unit in my E46 M3. Definitely recommend it. I routed my external mic into the to the grill next to the rear view mirror to keep it out of site and oem looking.

This is great. I share your desire to keep my dash looking stock while having some new functionality. Driving without Android Auto is sort of a drag, but I definitely do not want a 14" tablet head unit hanging onto my dash for dear life. Thanks for sharing!
Had good luck with an Eonon unit in my 2005 Mazda 3. Still going strong after 3-4 years.
Hi, i saw your installation video, nice job. I have also a BMW E 46 coupe (facelift model) May i give you a tip about the installation of the GPS receiver? Take out the instrumantalpanel, deep in the dashboard there is a spot where the GPS receiver fits like a glove, and because it's all plastic, it can see the satellites behind the edge of the windscreen because it sit that deep in the dashboard (if you know what i mean) If you place the instrument panel back, there is space enough, they don't touch each other.

I like this one way better than the unit you put in the Buick. Nicely integrated. It's clear that there's quite a market for upgrading BMW units.

Volume knobs that are incredibly flaky and dodgy LCD screens. Hard pass.

i must Say Car audio has Changed, i use to install in the 80s n 90s boom boom systems hidden this an that but dayum the upgame on the chinese today all those component look factory an was all plug and play we dint have those options lol i love the factory look aftermarket style its about time the manufactures listen to there customers, great video Jake

Yeah that dash kit looks nice, I wish there was something as intuitive for my Lexus GX460. The current AndroidAuto/Carplay head unit replacement solution for this thing currently sucks A LOT.
Run the cable for the remote mike behind the dash trim that goes over the radio so the mic is to the right of the steering column shroud. Works just fine there.

This was cool. One of the best things about BMWs is that they have a lot of aftermarket OEM+ available! You wouldn't get this for a Jaguar

Tip for wireless Android auto, if the head unit doesn't support it out of the box.
Download and install 'Head Unit Reloaded' (HUR) on the head unit. There is a trial version which you can use before paying for the full app.
Once installed, enable the WiFi hotspot from your phone and connect the head unit to the hotspot. Then, go to Android auto app (on your phone), and enable head unit server (I think you may need to enable developer options first).
Following this, go to the head unit reloaded app on the head unit and select WiFi. This should then launch into Android auto.
If you are experiencing stuttering whilst using wireless Android auto via HUR, try clearing all background apps on your phone and the head unit.
If you are experiencing a black screen on the head unit, you may need to enable / disable software decoding within the graphics setting of the HUR app.
I have two quick questions, does the unit light up when you turn on your lights? And Does this head unit work with the controls in the steering wheel?
Eonon has really good tech support I have the 10.1 (GA2185) for my dodge charger, been installed for about a month so far so good
I had a pretty bad experience with Eonon- glad that your experience was good but wouldn’t recommend them personally.
Bro, what kind of OBDII are you using?
get a spacer from amazon that takes your 02 sensor out of the stream. Cat efficiency code will go away. Cheap
@1:30 - yes because I got a similar item for my Mazda3 back in December 2018. One that was tailor made for the car...
My big complaints about my GA9163K are difficult to read in the sun, slow processor and only 2.4GHz WiFi radio.
It was easy to install.
Oh yeah, sometimes the hands free mic gets confused and I get poor quality sound and have to use the phone speaker or put in earbuds.
If the new units don't offer 5GHz WiFi, there is really no reason to upgrade. I'd be better off putting the factory HU back in and connect my Samsung S5E tablet to the Aux IN.
Please show the connection with android wireless. I can never find aftermarket headunit installs from anybody that isn't using an Iphone.
Last year I installed one of Eonon’s CarPlay units in my Škoda Fabia, I love how easy they make everything. It was as simple as plug and play, and because they made it the exact same shape as VAG’s OEM head units, it fit perfectly as though it was factory. No ugly frames or awkward looking square corners. It has some glitches and the GPS antenna it came with is shite, but CarPlay works well and so far it’s still working after just over a year.
How did this stereo workout for you? My touch screen stopped workin within a couple months.

Would be interesting to know the maximum unclipped volume it is putting out, thats where most non-namebrand headunits have their biggest downside :)
In my car, specifically, all actual amplification happens in the harmon-kardon amplifier. So the head unit is just putting out pre-amp signals. I have noticed it's quieter than the factory at max volume, to the point of being a little *too* quiet with the windows down on the highway. I rarely do this, so I haven't looked into it, but there are "factory settings" that I believe include the ability to bump the top-end up. I assume the pre-out voltage is correct since this is made specifically for this car, but who knows.

So did you need the $90 wiring harness that I see a lot of people complaining about or were you fine for just carplay without it?
That wiring harness is only for specific cars (navigation I think?) that have the connector in the trunk, so you have to buy an expensive extension cable.
How's the radio reception on your Eonon 9450? My unit is not so good. In fact, it's downright lousy. Trying to find out ways to boost the reception and wondered if you could provide any advice? Thanks.
I just got the same radio for my e46 with HK. Do you notice any static from the speakers at low volume? And at 15:00, Did you notice the fitment was off by the tabs where the old radio screwed in?

I put an Eonon in my E53 and I hate it. It works "decent" but I had to cut the dash to install so now I'm stuck with it. The BMW OE unit didnt have the features of the new one but sound quality and reception was far superior. Mine has static most of the time. Hope this one works better for you.

I put one into a Mazda 3. The system was a vampire causing battery drain. I had to re-install the old radio.
Everyone knows that you got this just so you can watch TikTok on your way to work. And by Everyone I mean just me.
Installed an earlier Eonon in my 2002 e46 a little over 6 years ago. I had to install a stock replacement mounting bracket to relocate cleanly the HVAC. Once that was complete, the Eonon was easy to install. Overall I love the Eonon and it has given me years of near trouble free use. The RDS decoding is unfortunately terrible, and occasionally I'll power up the unit and there's no screen (cycling the key/starting clears it up). Otherwise, it has been trouble free.
One thing I recommend is powering down the receiver before shutting off the vehicle. The screen issues seem to occur more often if I let the door opening kill the power to the unit.
And yeah, people will jump in the car, look at the unit, and ask if it's the stock factory receiver.
I’m gonna see how you like this and how it works for you then I’ll probably put one in my e46 as well. I really like the look.

No need to hook up the GPS antenna if you're using your phone for Android auto or car play.
Nice clean install. I agree, I also prefer the look of stock, and if a mod looks "stock +", even better.

It's actually supposed to be cubes. It's called "M-cube" trim by BMW; fake carbon fiber wasn't really a thing back in the early 2000s.
