Ugears Tourbillon Table Clock: Assembly and THREE TIPS

  • As with so many Ugears models, there is a fine line between amazing precision engineering and a smooth-running product. I must confess that I've found this model somewhat frustrating in that there are number of traps that I've fallen into, but the tips section should help you avoid at least some of them.
    The real killer is aligning the levers correctly so that the clock functions well. Some of the settings I initially used led to the tourbillon spinning quickly at the top of its cycle for no apparent reason. Correcting the setting for lever A helped here, but from then on, you really do just have to find some sweet spots and refine both levers' positioning. I imagine that they vary between different builds, so no concrete advice on this, I'm afraid.
    Ultimately, the clock, like most other Ugears models, is an absolute joy. I can't say that I use this as an actual clock, but I find the motion most soothing while I'm working. And I hope you find my self-penned soundtrack at least moderately chill, too.

    I only have 3 ugears puzzels! They are worth all the cost. This gramma saving for Harry potter combos and this amazing clock!

    Thank you for this video. I will be referring back to it when I get my own Sky Watcher clock.

    Excellent advice.

    I finally found out why the jump hour never works on mine, because ugears literally made that little pivoting piece on step 3 on page 5 so long it never falls into the part is supposed to below. Still not sure why the tourbillon randomly stops sometimes though, I have lever A and B 45 degrees apart like in the manual, also have them perfectly aligned so there's an even beat between then, like how it's supposed to be on a mechanical watch. But sometimes it'll run for a few seconds then stop, sometimes like an hour then stop, zero consistency.

      I agree: the mechanism is very inconsistent, and I find myself adjusting levers A and B to account for apparent differences in force coming from the wind-up drive (that is, when it's full of energy and when that starts to wane).

    About to start building my clock and was wondering if you found the included wax to be sufficient lubrication for the model to work optimally? Thank you for taking the time to post this helpful video!

      I think I needed additional wax. The stick they provide ran out quite quickly. But, in general, I've got no complaint with the quality of the wax they supply. It's more a question of applying it liberally. I've used candles we've had at home and graphite as lubricants before, too. Good luck with your build!

    Can u put a closer photo of the paperclip between b3 and b4, please

    • @hamletmachineuk
      @hamletmachineuk  Год назад

      The paperclip is really hard to see. I guess my point is that, in my opinion at least, the gap between the two parts needs to be filled. The paperclip is simply wedged between the two and rests by being hooked over the piece that connects them. It was a bit fiddly. I hope that helps!

    I somehow got the tourbillon working, but had the issue of the jump hour sometimes not advancing, you'd think that would be the easy part. But I'm guessing this is just a huge engineering flaw, the fact that you had to add a paperclip to get it to work, seems like a common issue if I had the same exact issue.

      Indeed... but it's a problem that was fairly easily remedied.

    I have a problem with the tourbillon part, it starts moving, but then it stops, it's all lever magic of something I'm missing?

    • @hamletmachineuk
      @hamletmachineuk  Год назад

      It's hard to say. The levers are certainly crucial and tinkering with them will help. Also, ensure that the balance spring is properly aligned (p. 55) and that the clock itself is on a flat surface. There's a lot of trial and error involved in this model.
