  • The T20 World Cup Daily, Day 8.2: Australia v England, Afghanistan v New Zealand. Bharat Sundaresan joins Geoff Lemon, as the Aussies blast off in Barbados with David Warner and Travis Head smashing England up. Jos Buttler and Phil Salt matched them for a while but nobody else could do it. At least Jofra Archer bowled well... meanwhile, Afghanistan demolished New Zealand in their most clinical win yet over a top-tier team.

Up to the 10th over of the English Innings I thought it was an even game, it was that the new English batsmen couldn’t score boundaries! It was better tactics from the Aussies that won the game.

A guy on some baseball commentary once said the game should be called "adjustments" rather than baseball. He meant you can't rely on what brings you success for very long, because the opposition will constantly change tactics and work you out if you do. It seems counterintuitive to stop doing what works, but it's better to do so before it does stop working in a game.
Fits well with the shortest form of cricket too, possibly more so as you have to adjust to each surface you play on as well as how the opposition are playing.

Totally the middle order just couldn’t adjust to the surface and we looked undercooked but credit to the Aussies and marsh for his bowlers protecting the short side

I am neither a supporter of England or Australia, but a massive fan of cricket.. and Australia was like a komodo dragon, once England was biten ..Australia patiently hunted them down

England middle order failed to utilise the start their openers provided… Zampa might be the difference, Rashid should have performed better

As an Aussie I have no idea what Johnny Bairstow adds except back up keeper.
Australia through the middle overs killed the run rate…..Starc is a worry. Couldn’t hit the side of a barn at the moment…..go Aussies.

Felt pretty comfortable for Australia in the end. Quite ironic that England have got a bit pace obsessed lately when it seems the traditional dibbly dobblers might fare better in this WC.
England not quite as undercooked as the Kiwis though. The margin of victory was shocking, but Afghanistan winning matches shouldn't be anymore.

yes Afghanistan is a top quality bowling side and decent batting side now. not surprising at all that they win matches in T20s and ODIs

Why didn't England play Topley? That was totally perplexing

Ricky was right. You need natural match winner like Warner whatever his recent form might be.

while England keep finding a place for moeen ali we will never improve, he is a failed experiment, there are younger better batsmen, bowlers and all rounders, his bowling is expensive, his batting is far to slow for t20, he has no power hitting, please drop him for good..

If Moeen's record represents a failed experiment, then you're a very hard taskmaster

@@FinalWordCricket not at all, his failures far outweigh any success he has brought, he batted well and bowled well on any surface that helped everyone, when under pressure he cracks, he's a timing hitter not power, on a pitch with mixed pace he is hopeless, the run rate drops every time he bats, then those who have to bat after him are under more pressure, his bowling is usually very expensive, we have better with the bat and the ball..
