I came hear to remember my childhood listening to Billy but more to see the joy of Shane loving this so much like one of the fans of the game he was, despite being one of the legends of the game himself. RIP Shane. Such a genuine guy. The Willy Nilly high five will live forever.
I loved Billy's Richie character. I could have listened to him for hours, doing all sorts of mundane tasks like shopping etc. I know the real Richie didn't swear like that, but the satire Richie was the best swearer I've ever heard. A great example is when Eddie McGuire calls Richie up to tell him he's boned and being replaced by Billy Birmingham - Richie's reaction is absolute gold! It's sad knowing Warnie isn't with us anymore, along with Richie, Tony and Max. I loved all those guys.
I remember my dad "confiscating" my copy of the original 12th man when i was a bout 12, Too much swearing, 5 years later i borrow the car and what is in the cassette deck, yep my copy of the 12th man
The Wired World of Sports 2 was the best XD "Can you hear me Ken?" "Urgh" *Whack* "Can you hear me Ken?"... "OOh I needed that, the ole' back teeth were nearly floating"
Legend. First heard 12th Man on, yes, a bootleg TDK brought over by our two superb overseas Aussies in 1987. Life was never the same again. It was forever better.
I was on a contiki tour in Europe 30 years ago. To my surprise, someone put on a 12th man tape - and bugger me, all the Saffies on the bus (about a dozen) knew the lines word for word! Great times.
Omg I loved listening to this when I was back at school the 12th man was a big part of my teenage years me and my best mate would laugh and try and do the voices of the character's we got good at the voices all our other school friends would laugh at us🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 "class of 1997" This was our quote on our year shirt. (Year 10 never again)
Watched this whole vid without even remembering that Warnie is longer with us! So weird that he went so soon - I always imagined him being around in the commentary box until a ripe old age just like Richie......
Where did he come up with situations like-- (while commentating, Darryl Eastlake says to Jack Gibson) 'i can see Ron Gibbs warming up on the sideline, looks like he's coming on for Wayne Pearce. Yes Pearce off Jack, Gibbs on!' Jack Gibson "What did u say f@ck knuckle?"
Legendary Billy Birmingham. Known around the English-speaking cricket world for his legendary impersonations of iconic cricket commentators. What an interview. Get him in the com-box for some of the current 7 team!
I like how Billy wanted to change the subject after Warne was trying to encourage him to do a new 12th Man impersonating the current cardboard cut-out commentary team Nine has. Just imagine trying to do impressions of dullards like Slater, Healy, Taylor and Brayshaw. That would be a chore of a comedy album to make.
+A.J. Meyer Come come. Dullurds?! Slats is an excitable himbo, Healy is an excitable booze hound, Brayshaw is an excitable hollowman, and Tubby.... Tubby has tard annunciation and dribbles absolute shiat, but I love how he randomly gets pumped up about something, even the quality of the party pies he had during morning break. Now, the teeem at 9 may be a number of things, but dullards they ain't.... Got no problem with the ad hominem +A.J. Meyer, but if you're gonna be sledging a whole bunch of people, ya gotta be accurate with the burn.
I don't mind the new crop of commentators, they have grown on me and they have much more confidence than when they first started and it shows in their ability to tell a story or explain tactics. I'll admit they were a bit hard to listen to in their early days. Tubby and Slats have really shown their excitable nature and personality lately which I never expected from them. Although Tubby did fire up for Siddle's hat-trick a few years ago when he was kind of new to the commentary box, which was awesome. Heals is usually very calm and measured, but I still appreciate his input. He's a cricket intellectual. Kevin Pieterson is a bit strange to listen to, I bet 12th Man would have a field day impersonating him. I like him though, he brings some colour to the box. "Brayshaw is an excitable hollowman" that describes him perfectly, but I still like what he brings to the table. Warne and Tubby is like the next Bill and Tony with the whole Melbourne V Sydney banter they provide. I'm yet to come around to Michael Clarke's commentary. He tries his best, he knows what he's talking about, but it comes off a bit... condescending? I dunno, it feels like he's a bit too analytical and doesn't bring much fun to his input. It's a bit too educational for my liking. Give him a couple more year's experience.
This literally reminded me that Warney isn't with us anymore....I went from laughing to lamenting slightly. 😢 can't believe Bill Lawry outlived Warney....absolutely crazy stuff.
I find myself having to listen to it every summer now that 4 have passed and the rest retired. Once in a lifetime group of guys with unique voices and personalities.
Billy Birmingham, comic genius, some of those Indian,Pakistani and Sri Lankan names he came up with, were absolutely hilarious. Some noticeable mentions were, “Waziacrim, imethiminagaybar, acocksuckah, rubbishbinny, madonnacantsingh, arerealmuddahfukah, and ilovethehooduguruhsingha. And of course, there were the voice impersonations. R.I.P Shane Warne.

Billy you’re an absolute legend, I grew up listening to your gears going all the way back to Wired World of Sports and I’ll never forget it!
Simply said....my childhood in a nut shell. Just a good as the coverage. What a legend....Billy Birmingham.

Beautiful. And such a lovely explanation of his own craft. Hail the Great Man
Never get sick of listening to the commentary that just cracks me up. Great laughs, Great Memories from the best era of crickets ever to exist.

12th Man topped off an amazing childhood. Billy is the man!
3 great blokes there. R.I.P. Warney !

"here a bouncer, there a yorker, every ball a real corker. Simon o'Donnell had a ball ee I ee i oh!"
A genius if you have the background to appreciate him.
His Kerry Packer was just gold, but to be fair, all his impersonations were spot on
Shane Warne. Shane Warne. Why you and why now? Gutted. Rest in eternal peace.
Fantastic stuff. So bittersweet now, of course.
Watched this whole vid without even remembering that Warnie is longer with us! So weird that he went so soon - I always imagined him being around in the commentary box until a ripe old age just like Richie......
And he wrote a lot of material for other comedians as well. Most notably Australiana by Austin Tacious
simply one of the best. Indian cricket players? no problem. New Zealand league team? piece of cake
Brandon O'Sullivan can never get the name of the half back
My favorite is when he did Darryl Eastlake!!!! Funny man!!!!
Rexol weather watch machine, I remember that!! Tony, Richie and Bill are missed so much.
Hard to believe Warnie is no longer with us.
max walker ,great man this guy's still walk's around wow!!!!!.

Make no mistake friend, the commentary team at Sky Sports in England is significantly duller than channel 9's current lot.

Why not just let billy Birmingham commentate the test series

What does the title mean? Why Versus Warne? They didn’t fight or debate or argue
They had a little Tony Greig impersonation contest at the start
Wazimran Ahmadruta and Wadiyamin Wazi …!
The modern day commentators are boring
F’ing Warnie can’t help himself has to hear his own voice always interrupting
Moose Knuckle
warney does a better tony than billy.
Maybe Billy could have impersonated those nurses that Warne sexually harassed in England. That would have been funnier than this.
“Harassed.” Yeah it’s not harassment when they’re into it. Mate just because girls recoil in fear from you doesn’t mean it’s that way for everyone.
