My mum and dad by coincidence were on the same flight back to the UK after a holiday in Australia. Each and every player/squad member signed a Qantas serviette for them, that's all they could find, I am not sure which player asked them all to do so, but my mum said one of them went around the plane and got them all to sign. I have it still, Boon, Jones, all of their signatures. Top blokes.
Rest in peace Deano! Can't believe you are gone, mate! A true legend on and off the field..An early pioneer of white ball cricket.. Gone but not forgotten!
@@outbackjim9168 yes he put fear into the bowling attacks i remember when he arrived at the crease the game was about to change and the aussie would be in trouble
@@TrackRecord3455 indeed the whole west indies team of the time were incredible i only made comment on deano one cause he was a good player also but due to 1 comment he made he was dropped from australian cricket even though year after year he was making most runs in domestic australian cricket and was such a waste but i remember him playing for a world 11 side against australia in a one dayer and making a hundred
I met Dean Jones in the Orient Hotel nightclub in Sydney in the early 90s, the night/morning before the one day final around 2am. My friend had dragged me to the club as I am not a clubber. He came out of nowhere and pinched by backside on the dance floor. I was a conservative young looking 20 ish, looked more like 16. He was 'extremely' drunk (ie barely standing; slurring and flirting), he was with Paul Reiffel who was fine (looked like Dean had dragged him there). Yes fun guy but not my type as aren't guys who grope you. I was an athlete but not a cricket fan (my family is) but since the one day final was starting in a few hours I asked him 'but aren't you playing in the final in a few hours?'. He said yes, but we are going to lose for sure, that baffled me as Australia were the clear favourites (partly was why many Sydney siders were already partying). Also was sorta shocked that he was representing Australia yet not turning up in good form (I had been an elite athlete). I remember he got out for something like 18 runs (he was expected to get a lot more at like number 3 ish) and Australia did lose much to everyone's shock. I was shocked to later find out he was married. Even more shocked when he was awarded Australian Father of the Year (although not really surprised Australia can't do better). Not shocked when it came out about his affair/ child.
Why the fuck this video end!! I will pay $$$$$ to hear Deano speak absolutely anything!!! Shame world cricket didn't get listen him in his prime because of one error in judgement for a split SECOND.
Long story...Short, met him briefly at an Electricians Golf Day, at The Rockhampton Golf Course. "He is deadly serious, and there is no reason in the world, anyone should want to smile"

Totally agree. They were hard and fast cricketers. But decent blokes who always had time for the fans. Even us poms.
