Given the strength of the whole team, I’d take Stokes over Kallis for his match winning capabilities. But there is no denying Kallis is the superior cricketer.
13289 Test runs, 45 Test centuries, 292 Test Wickets, 200 catches, played against some of the best Test bowlers of all time. Batting average greater than Sachin's, bowling average as good as one time Indian pace spearhead Zaheer Khan and almost as many catches as Rahul Dravid the Test fielder. This in itself elevates Jacques Kallis to the position of the greatest cricketer to ever have played the game. When you also consider his ODI record (11579 runs, 44 batting average, 272 wickets, 130 catches), the only question which remains is how a human being achieved all this. If and not when (because it won't happen) Ben Stokes gets even remotely close to these figures, then compare him to Kallis, but not now. No way. It is offensive to consider Stokes anywhere close to Kallis right now.
Ahh but it’s also about where and how you get the runs and whether it’s in a winning cause? That cricketer was Sobers. As regards stats, Stokes had better stats for the same number of tests. In terms of match winning, WC final winner, one of the greatest test innings of all time and better than any Kallis has played. He can bowl 90+ miles an hour and reverse swing (Kallis can’t do that). He has changed many more games already. Not English, but at that 6, it’s a debate and probably Stokes.
@@bhavikmerchant920 both are different kind of players .....kallis is the consistent one that you always rely on and stokes is the one that won't work 8 out of 10 times but when he does....he pulls off almost anything.... so its a fair comparison and better to be consistent than just waiting for that one match....helps the team a lot more
@@andychinn3671 there's an interview of Mike Hussey where he said that everytime the topic of the gretest cricketer came up in the Aussie dressing room, Kallis was always the unanimous choice. most cricketers would agree with that assertion. Kallis is the GOAT. And I don't like him particularly as a batsman or a bowler. But you can't escape facts.
Stokes is more impactful and more genius, winning ashes tests single handedly is a height that Kallis never rose to. He is the averages king but those of us who watched never wanted to see him play and you simply have to acknowledge when a player has a reputation for playing for his average
@@HkFinn83 Granted if you just look at him from a point of view that his average where great then your point is very impactful. Having grown up in South Africa and noticing how difficult it is to bat(Maybe I am just a mug lol) around these parts. Add the fact most foreign supporters forget or perhaps don't know about the 1st 10 years Kallis Started playing for the proteas. Where he bated 3 with a limited Gray Kirsten and a young Herschel Gibbs(who was notorious for throwing away his wicket) opening. If he got out cheaply, behind him was basically all rounders or a flavour of the month number 4. Poor guy only scored a 200 when he had Amla before him and AB after him, where he knew if he got out it wouldn't be a 120 all out situation. And someone who followed cricket would say "Brain Lara wasn't exactly batting with genius's around his 400 odd knock". Which I would answer, when that great cricketer start he was batting in a brilliant team.
@@musandlala7991 Love your reply and South Africa, but you can't think batting in South Afruca is harder than England on its green seemers with the dukes ball and an overcast sky?
Ben Stokes guided England to 2 limited overs World Cup Titles : ODI World Cup 2019. T20 World Cup 2022. No doubt Kallis was a great all-rounder, probably the best there ever was , but how many World Cups did Kallis win for his team?
But in no 6 stokes is better than Kallis(batting skills ) ...if Kallis is too good than put him in no 3 in place of sanga or punter ..not in no 6 ..bcz he is not a no6 Batsman ..make a team according to their batting position ..
they were comparing for the position of batting at 6, there's definitely an argument for Stokes batting at 6 over Kallis. Any higher up the orders 100% Kallis but for an allrounder at 6... Stokes is definitely a good option.
This was awesome! Yes, Stokes could be an all-time great, but I think a telling stat is that Kallis has 23 man-of-the-match awards in Test cricket. The most for ANY player in history. In sides that boasted Donald, Pollock, Ntini, Steyn, Smith, Amla, de Villiers etc. That says a lot about his match-winning ability. Stokes currently has 8 man-of-the-match awards, but his career is still young.
Both are quite different.... kallis is a really consistent player while stokes fails in many but when he does worl he can pull off almost impossible looking tasks
Kallis will always have better stats than Stokes. He has better stats than virtually anyone who has played the game. But... Stokes is more exciting and better to watch. I know Kallis always put the team first, but he was actually quite a dull plodding batsman. He lost a few ODIs for South African with his slow scoring. I know whose career highlights real I'd rather watch.
@G H why do you want to win single-handedly? Perera won match single handedly vs SA. Will you consider him in xi? No. A consistent career is invaluable compared to a 1 in 10 match winning innings.
@G H only if u take these 2 yrs. Why not klusener? 3-4 Stokes type match winners performed miracles for their teams in the 90s for 7+ yrs. Ben stokes Is unique only post 2002. Maybe that's why people choose him. Kallis has only Sobers for company from all times. People have very short memories.
@G H so. You don't make a team based on historic events only. One person cannot take someone to finals. Just because stokes won wc final u take him in ur team? Things could have gone wrong so easily. Kallis team never performed well enough to reach finals. You cannot put that against him. That is why teams are selected based on consistent performances and not miracles where luck was involved no matter how brilliant the innings was. You are making an emotional selection, like choosing a dream11 team. Your reaction 'world Cup finaaaalllllllllll' says it all. You are putting too much emphasis on the occasion. No selector worth his grain of salt will do that especially based on just one final. It's very unlikely u will choose the same team 10 yrs down the line. The impact of recent memory is very great, especially because there hasn't been anyone like stokes for nearly 2 decades. That is why he is special in today's times.
@G H Perera and Haddin I see. Maybe you will include Mendis as match winner as well then. I will always back consistent players over miracle makers who are inconsistent. If your inconsistent team wins consistently, so be it.
Wasim made his Test debut in 1985 - and so played many of his best years prior to the (admittedly artificial) selection span used here. He was undoubtedly a great, but in an all-time eleven, he would lose out to Garfield Sobers.
@lomax343 , there is no comparison as both had different roles. Sobers with a batting average of 57 would walk into any team as a pure batsman and he was an allrounder but if you want a bowler than Akram was way better , probably the best left armer of all times. Also batting Sobers at 7,8 where Akram batted would be the most insane thing imaginable
@@lomax343 Most likely Kallis is the one who will lose out to Sobers. Wasim makes it to everyone's XI because he is easily the greatest left arm fast bowler of all time, and makes for a great bowling all-rounder. He also could swing it better than anyone who has ever played the game, before or after him. Perfect number 8. Sobers would bat at 6.
It's blasphemous that they were even trying to make the Stokes/Kallis discussion even debatable. I understand they're English but come on, that is ridiculous. This is just utter bias and prisoner of the moment stuff. Nasser had the nerve to say Stokes will finish his career with stats close to Kallis??? Maybe bowling yes, but Kallis's batting is in the conversation of the greatest batters in the history of the game - he wasn't just "great for an allrounder".
Maybe. But they're presenters and they've got to fill 60 minutes, and while Kallis is infinitely better than Stokes, its interesting to contrast them as players and characters, and I'm not sure I could name a better all-rounder in the past 30 years who isnt Kallis than Stokes...
@@adambradbury906 Flintoff, Klusener maybe. I said maybe because this raises a discussion between these 3. Two things common between them - They were match winners and they were inconsistent. They might step up to the occasion every 10th Match, but they are mediocre between those performances. That's why batting and bowling avgs respected, they are the indicators of consistency. Hence Kallis was the greatest all-rounder in the last 30yrs. He was always the main batsman of the team and 3rd or 4th best bowler. Also keep in mind SA has Donald, Pollock, Ntini, Steyn, Philander, Morkel, so Kallis picked wickets even as a supporting act.
If your all-rounder is batting 6 I'd pick Stokes over Kallis. Stokes is a slightly better bowler in my opinion, at 6 you want someone who can play that counter attacking innings and bat with the tail, Kallis spent his career as an orthodox number 4. Would you back Kallis to do what Stokes did at Headingley with the number 11? I don't say any of this to make the case for Stokes as a greater cricketer than Kallis, Kallis is in the top three cricketers of all time.
warne and murali are #1 and 2 spinners of all time, but warne is the greatest bowler of all time. warne: 708 test wickets, murali 800. wickets vs zimbabwe and bangladesh (the whipping boys of test cricket): warne: 17, murali: 176. that should put that argument to bed.
Cummins is just an upcoming cricketer... He has to see much more cricket... His comparison is nothing in front of great Wasim Akram... This is just australian dominated side... Sangakkara will be far better to Gilchrist, similarly Rahul Dravid ahead of Ponting... But it's their choice because they are cricketers too...😄
@@ravijaybhaye1793 I agree that Sanga is a better batsman than Glichrist. No debate there. Depends what you're looking for though. For test, there's no debate, Sanga easily though. For ODI though, I'd take Gilly. He's better behind the stumps and adds more aggression to the lineup.... I'd also take Ponting over Dravid. That's a close one, but Ponting has the edge for me. I just think he's a more complete batsman.
in australia i remember him being fat and sunburnt the entire tour in 2002/03..doing his first tour against the best in oven like heat wouldn't of helped him lol
Imagine Ambrose and McGrath sharing the new ball in tests. They would probably bowl one half volley every year or two and that too out of pity for the poor batsmen.
AMBROSE RELIED ON HIS HEIGHT AND BOUNCE THAN VARIATIONS. A GREAT HIMSELF BUT THERE IS WALSH WHO IS AS GOOD AND PERHAPS BETTER. BOTH CANT BE PUT ABOVE MARSHALL. ALL TIME GREAT: MARSHAL,AKRAM,MCGRATH/LILLIE/TRUMAN,ANY OF THOSE ALL ROUNDERS( THEY COULD ALL BOWL YOU KNOW) AND ANDERSON!
Sangakkara padded his stats up against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Additionally Sri Lanka and Pakistan played countless series on concrete pitches so sangakkara and Younis Khan could boost their stats
Nasser suggesting that Stokes may finish his career with similar stats to Kallis is just insane. He may come close to Kallis the bowler..maybe, but not Kallis the batsman.
It's not even comparable mates. Kallis was a proper frontline batsman. Stokes as nasser said is a number 6. You're never gonna have a batting statistics like a number 3 if you're batting at number 6,. Look at what happened to VVS Kallis is consistent reliable player. Stokes is just a match winner. He's not gonna give you consistency
Or courtney walsh. I would have walsh and ambrose murali and akram Open with Gavaskar and jaisurya Then dravid and tendulkar Lara at five kallis at six Gilchrist keeper
Murali can be understood not being taken because there are so many good players that you can't fit all. Warne provides an additional batting advantage than Murali and is a legendary spinner.
@@louquay Lol sure. 4th most runs scored most catches in tests, 10th most runs scored in ODIs despite not playing ODI cricket for the last 4-5 years of his career.
Never in a million years, I would pick kohli over sachin and smith over Lara. Lara and sachin played some of the lethal bowling attacks in history. Modern game has become more batsman friendly and it's a tough time to be a bowler. Sachin and Lara over Kohli and Smith anyday
Speaking of strike rate, bowling average etc, how can you leave out the great Sir Curtly Ambrose? His bowling average is 20.99 only after Malcom Marshall and 400 plus wickets.
Ben Stokes guided England to 2 limited overs World Cup Titles : ODI World Cup 2019. T20 World Cup 2022. No doubt Kallis was a great all-rounder, probably the best there ever was , but how many World Cups did Kallis win for his team?
1. many people forget that McGrath in his first Test Series against the WI bowled in the 140s - he then realised he could be more effective strangling batsmen and bowling 10kmh slower 2. the slips cordon for Australia definitely helped their bowlers…..Taylor at 1st, Warne at 2nd, M Waugh at 3rd, Hayden at gully…….if they had a 4th slip - Ponting
Instead of bhajji I'll go for muralidharan. And steve waugh will captain the side with Dravid at 3 and Sehwag to open with Cook. Then to neutralize warne VVS at 5. That means no kohli. For keeping AB might be a good choice. And for all rounder any suggestions? Bhumrah is a good option for third seamer or Lee or Akthar
Probably the best Australian team of all time australia famous for struggling outside of Australia won the ashes over here with that team in 01 and no Aussie team has done it since tells you how good that team was especially when you realised in their twilight years of 05 they almost beat probably the best or 2nd best England team ever
Yes. That's why we 90s fans rate Indian performance in 2003 world cup so highly. That Aussie side was unbeatable. The batting line up never ended - it was like taking on a team where everyone was in beast mode. If they batted first, they would score 300+ (which was huge back then), and if they batted second they would rarely chase over 200. And that's because if McGrath was playing, good chance he would wrap your top order up in a big game. Oh then you had Warne, who was basically unplayable everywhere outside the subcontinent. Supported by Gillespie and Lee and Fleming - all deadly bowlers on their day. The bench were blokes like Brad Hogg, Nathan Bracken, Bichel. And at any time, 3 in the top order could bowl some useful overs. And their fielding was only second to South Africa, and far ahead of everyone else (other than NZ).
Just imagine if he from same era as Richards, Greenidge ,Haynes , Lloyd, kallicharan, Kanhai Holding,Garner Roberts,Daniel , Gavaskar ,Lillee and Thompson ,Hadlee ,Imran ,Kapil Dev,Rice,Proctor etc . The Greatest complete player ever !!!

First man picked always Warne. Incredible match winning weapon to have as the pitch ages. Before he gets his wickets he gives you quality in the slips and a cricket brain second to none. Most bowlers need to be hidden in the field. Greatest bowler i've seen. Next two picked always Gilchrist and Kallis for me. Both supply choice of playing an extra bat or bowler. Enormous advantages again without compromise on quality. The Lara Tendulkar Ponting trio is just a superb and classy combo to pick at 3to5. Flair and Class. Happy to alternate Sehwag with Hayden/Smith. Personally would luv to see Hayden batting alongside Sehwag but not fussed. Akram McGrath Marshall as the seamers.
Sir curtly Ambrose as one of the pacers surely probably him McGrath and Akram Warne has to be in Lara Ponting and Sachin as your top order is just stupidly good. Gilchrist has to keep. the openers are my only question marks I’d like to take Cook tbh as an opener
Sangakkara Vs ponting....that's a tough one and you can't go wrong with either one but I would have gone with Sanga because of the additional brilliant wicket keeper capabilities.
Ponting was absolute magic when on song. One of the players you feared and had nightmares about leading into a game. An out-and-out match winner. Ponting's skills as a captain provides for more than Sangakkara could with the gloves. Ponting was the most complete fieldsman the game has seen, and could turn the game with a moment of brilliance in the field. Overall Ponting, like Kallis brought a whole lot of things to the table and should be an automatic selection every day of the week.
@@rushpan93 @rushpan93 Ponting every day of the week considering his phenomenal record as a captain and the fact that the team is filled with absolute giants of the game whose egos he could manage far easier than Smith.
@arjunarora1072 Well maybe. But you could make the argument that he wasn't as effective when Australia lost some of those legends. Smith was cleverer if nothing else.
Cant believe Nasser and Rob are even debating Sachin’s greatness over Virat. The guy dominated world class bowling attacks for 20 years (minus his last 3-4 years)! Virat can’t come close even in ODIs.
I disagree. In ODIs, Sachin in his prime was inferior batsman to out of form Kohli. I don't mean stroke making, I mean batting in general. Reliability, Consistency and Match Winning ability.

Max batting average of Stokes at the end of his career is 50,probs something between 40-45. No contest right now between him and Kallis, he is great though and getting better
Kallis and Sobers are a particular godly like. Stokes is more like the Kapil/Imran/Hadlee/Botham category. Their batting stats are a lil in 30's compared to Kallis and Sobers 50's but their impact is probably so great. The kind of summer Stokes has had. World Cup final. Headingley test. The SA match. He's setting himself in a Botham vs Stokes debate very nicely.
In 166 Tests he should of taken at least 400 wickets to be considered a great allrounder. He's a batsmen who bowls a bit at Test level in ODIs great allrounder.
@@jahno7154 In fact Gary Sobers has bowling average of 34 and Kallis 32, they are not top class bowlers. Hadlee, Imran are top class bowlers with average of 22 and there batting is important even if it is of 27/37 average because runs are need from every player in the Xi while if you have 4-5 top class bowlers you dont need bowling of Sobers and Kallis. In fact Kallis and Sobers are top class batsmen but not allrounders in the true sense.
Ricky Ponting was an outstanding batsmen and a joy to watch but he struggled on Sub-continental pitches. Dravid was a better no.3 and he should have been included in place of Ponting.
Also Dravid was a little underrated partly because back in the day we were filled with a star batting lineup. Everyone from the batting lineup were legendary and Sachin was celebrated as God.

Hayden Smith Dravid Lara Tendulkar Sangakarra (wk) Pollock Akram Warne Muralitharan McGrath Those six batters should get enough runs and Pollock Wasim and Warne were good enough together to make up for a real number 7.
Cant really fault the team picked. I'd suggest to make a fair assessment, to pick a team to contest in seam friendly conditions, ie UK, SA, NZ, Aus and then a team for the subcontinent and West Indies. Ideally in subcontinent you would want 2 front line spinners, perhaps sacrificing a batsman.
I find it genuinely sad how Waqar is never even mentioned...Waqar had the greatest strike rate ever till recently overtaken by Dale Steyn. At his peak 4 years Waqar Younes was statistically the greatest bowler who ever lived, even better than Sydney Barnes....and Waqar bowled on the slowish Subcontinent wickets most of his life at other times bowling in India, Sri lanka or the UAE. Truely sad.
There's an interview of Wasim's in Seattle where he was asked if Wasim the caption would pick Wasim the bowler or Waqar the bowler, if he could only have one, and he picked Waqar
I get Stokes had an amazing last 12 months. But to even compare him to kallis is a joke tbh. Jacque kallis is the greatest cricketer to have played the game. His batting, bowling and fielding can be compared to the best in the world. The guy was just a freaking all around superstar!

I don't see any comparison right now between Kohli and Sachin as test batsmen. Sachin played 200 tests and averaged almost 54. That amount of consistency and longevity is incredible, not to mention the bowling attacks he faced. He has landmark performances against 2-3 generations of great bowlers. If Kohli can stay at his current level for another 6-7 years, then the comparison can be made.
The problem is people compare Kohli from 2015-2020 to Sachin of 2008-2012, forgetting Sachins prime was in the 90s. Definitely Sachin for me in both formats, especially if you consider their World Cup record
Didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did! I love this team think Graeme Smith and Hayden were phenomenal players, Ponting was my hero playing cricket as a child guy had the timing of God when he was on form, Sashin who can deny the mans greatness, Lara a bit before my time but watching clips he seems like a batsman from today with his strike play and when someone like Shane Warne says he is the best batsman he's ever bowled to well that says it all, Kallis arguably the greatest cricketer to ever play the game, Gilly what a phenomenal keeper and batsman (I like Mark Boucher as a wicket keeper but Gilly brings a bit more to the table), Shane Warne as I used to bowl leg break the admiration I have for this mans bowling can not be put into words, Wasim Akrim so unique and phenomenal undeniable, Dale Steyn is my personal favourite (and in my book the best fast bowler I have ever seen bowl) there are a few spells that come to mind Steyn vs Collingwood in England probably beat the outside edge for 5 overs straight in England and Steyn vs Haddin in South Africa sets him up with outswingers only to bowl middle stump out of the ground with an inswinger 4 balls later and all this at close to a 150kmh, he's bowled faster than 150kmh but mostly they were up in high to mid 140's, Glenn McGrath is text book was always putting on the pressure and could bowl on a coin for overs on end. Now its 2023 and would I swap these guys out for the best players of today, I would say no. I will say though my team is based of test cricket not limited overs. I would also say I can see someone putting in Steve Smith, Ab de Villiers, Virat Kholi or Ben Stokes, Steve Smith is a batting machine but I don't know whether I would put him above any of the batsmen on the list, AB and Virat I feel are in such a league of their own when it comes to striking the ball, it is such a sight to see but again Ponting and Lara... Stokes, I'll say this its day 5 and my back is against the wall, I want Stokes to come in and bowl or bat, the guy never gives up and tbh he seems like he plays better the more pressure he has on him but again if you're only choosing on all-rounder very tough to leave out someone of Kallis's caliber. I guess one thing to also consider is Sashin had Dravid, Smith had Kallis and Amla, Steyn had Morkel, Ntini, Philander, Shane had McGrath and Lee, Ponting had hayden, Hayden had Langer, also Hussey, Clarke, and Gilly... You know all of these players are phenomenal cricket players but it is a team sport and it's always easier to get wickets when your bowling partner is putting on the pressure and way easier to come in and bat when you have great players infront and behind you. Probably a golden age of cricket the turn of the millennium.
Off the top of my head, a 70-80s XI would be ridiculous... Even without spinners. Greenidge Gavaskar Border Viv Richards Miandad Dujon Imran Khan Richard Hadlee Dennis Lillee Andy Roberts Malcolm Marshall
Great team but I will choose Dravid with Hayden over Sehwag Gilchrist over Sangakarra And since you already have an outstanding bowling attack I will have Ponting over Kallis
Agreed. If anything, debate shud hv been for deciding between Steyn, Cummins n Anderson. Steyn goes in though in any case hands down between them. But still McGrath was something else
@@nikunjdixit1175 My seam attack is Wasim, Ambrose, Steyn and Anderson. I back this up with Kallis (batting at 4), and I choose Murali for my spin option.
@@interestedbystander196 I definitely don't put Anderson over McGrath. Anderson is an excellent bowler but his record outside of England is not so hot, whereas McGrath had a superb record pretty much everywhere. I personally slightly prefer Warne over Murali and I might have chosen to play both if I had a fast bowling all rounder in Kallis. 3 seamers, 2 spinners, and Kallis as a fast bowling allrounder. It would be tough to leave out any of of Wasim, Ambrose, Steyn, or McGrath.
All Time Test XI and ODI XI of last 30 years (1990- 2020) : • Test XI - 1. Sehwag 2. Hayden 3. Lara 4. Tendulkar 5. Kallis 6. Gilchrist 7. Ashwin* 8. Warne 9. Akram 10. McGrath 11. And Ashwin who has 500+ Test wickets at avg of 23 with SR of 50 and also he has 5+ Test centuries as batsman. So Ashwin fits perfectly in the role which I need as he is a great bowler and a fine batsman. • ODI XI - 1. Rohit 2. Jayasuriya 3. Tendulkar 4. Kohli 5. De Villiers 6. Yuvraj 7. Dhoni 8. For me, SACHIN VS LARA VS SMITH is such a juicy, debatable, very very tough call at no 4. Someone like Ponting and Kallis due to batting positions can slot in at 3 and 6 and Lara perhaps at 5. But boy, you simply can't leVe out either Sachin or Smith. For me Kohli is no comparison to Sachin in tests. And in ODI's Sachin is opener and Virat definitely at 3.
Leave out Ponting maybe. Lara at 3 and Sachin and Smith at 4 and 5 or 5 and 4 respectively. That's the only thing you can do if u don't wanna leave out Sachin and Smith
King Wiwuz IV There is no doubt that Sangakkara was a great player but if you analyse Sanga’s career stats carefully then you will find that his purple patch started in the latter half of the 2000s by which time all the great bowlers of the 90s had retired. Sanga never faced Ambrose or Walsh or Donald or Wasim or Waqar. He didn’t have much success against McGrath either. Sanga has 11 double hundreds but 10 of those have come on sub-continent pitches (if you know what I mean). He was a great batsman no doubt, but I will not put him in the same category as Lara or Tendulkar or Ponting. Tendulkar was technically the most correct batsman in all conditions whether against seam or swing or spin or pace & bounce. But the most entertaining to watch was Brian Charles Lara. When Lara was in the mood, he was simply unstoppable.
@@ruchirmundhra6716 yup, excellent. Lara Smith Sachin Great line up. Now where to fit in Bradman and Richards! I think I will go with Openers 1 Opener 2 Bradman Sachin Richards Smith Wk

It would be in eye test. But smith already surpassed lara if u take your bias. How can u be in 61+ average while playing against England,India and South Africa.
Based on stats, performance, impact in tests from last 30 years (Jan 1990 - Dec 2019), Top Test XI: *Sachin Kallis Ponting Lara S.Smith S.Waugh (c) Sanga (wk) Akram Warne Ambrose McGrath* 1. Gilchrist def the keeper batsman in ODIs but preposterous not to have Sanga (> 57 Avg of Sobers & 12400 test runs) as keeper batsman in tests. 2. Warne vs Murli is tricky and debatable. Both are the best and most prolific spinners of all time. 3. G.Smith and Hayden are great players and openers but G.Smith avg < 50 and Hayden avg just at 50. Both also have < 10000 test runs. My Test XI top 7 all have avg > 52 and > 10000 runs (except S.Smith but his avg > 62!). 4. Steyn was superb but his avg of ~23 is > than Ambrose avg of < 20! Plus Ambrose was more devastating with more match-winning spells. 5. Ridiculous to pre-select 2 players for each spot. You are limiting your selection. Test XI should be based on the best 11 players w/o any restriction or pre-selection.
@@zakariapatel5228 Also no one mentions that sanga averages 44 as a keeper not 57. His average stared rising when he stopped keeping. Picking Sanga as the keeper ahead of Gilchrist is Ludacris and im saying this as a Sanga fan.
I have a problem when you judge Sachin by his stats. He is the prefect case when stats dont speak the complete truth about a batsman's talent and skills. Sachin was beyond numbers. He used the cricket bat better than anyone ever . His shots are just 99.99% perfect. Its only him who was as close to perfection as one could be. Talk about ability and not stats. And when you do that , Sachin vs Kohli debate will be settled for ever. Its Sachin always. Period.
Interesting you say that, cause I've always felt his stats and longevity (sort of ) flatter him. I never feared Sachin when we played India like I fear(ed) Kohli, Smith, Lara. Perhaps cause he wasn't much of a match-winner (compared to the names I mentioned).
Hameer Ali good joke...u may not have feared but the greatest bowler of all time shane warne has gone on record to say sachin gave him nightmares!!.... whether its technique or stats or longevity or having faced the lethal bowlers of the 90s , Sachin is on a different league....incomparable!,

Rob Key is an intelligent guy, but didnt want to upset anyone... He clearly knows Murali was the superior bowler to Warne... In every type of stat you could imagine, Murali has been the better bowler and arguably the greatest of them all..!
Please never put Stokes against Kallis again. There is no comparison. Kallis is superior by far!
same with the Sachin Virat comparison like not even at limited overs, it's just pleasing young kids with this much punditry
Given the strength of the whole team, I’d take Stokes over Kallis for his match winning capabilities. But there is no denying Kallis is the superior cricketer.
Chirag Rawat Saying not even at limited overs shows your clear bias. Kohli is a superior player to Sachin.
Stokes has had a great 12 to 18 months... Kallis has had an actual great career.. There's no comparison
Asian fans would say Kallis because they don't like the English HA HA.

@@HkFinn83 Granted if you just look at him from a point of view that his average where great then your point is very impactful.

Ikr, let's compare 13000 plus test runs with barely 4000, I mean, does that sound logical to anyone

Wasim Akram fits in in all ex cricketers world 11
What a legend he was
Wasim made his Test debut in 1985 - and so played many of his best years prior to the (admittedly artificial) selection span used here.

@@arjunarora1072 Yup could have had a discussion about who would captain this side. Smith or Ponting.

You are comparing Stocks with Imran and Hadlee and Botham, stock is nothing when compared with them.
I loved the way Rob Keys refusing to answer who his preferred spinner would be and Nasser not letting him off the hook.
Ricky Ponting was an outstanding batsmen and a joy to watch but he struggled on Sub-continental pitches. Dravid was a better no.3 and he should have been included in place of Ponting.
Ponting only struggled in India first see his stats in Sri Lanka Bangladesh and Pakistan and see dravids stats in South Africa and Sri lanka
Dravid was very good probably a better test batsman than Ponting but in ODIS I think Ponting has a clear upper hand.
Also Dravid was a little underrated partly because back in the day we were filled with a star batting lineup. Everyone from the batting lineup were legendary and Sachin was celebrated as God.

Truely sad.
Yeah Waqar was a nightmare
True that.
Wasim got ahead in wicket tally later in his career and that is why nobody picks him which is just dumb
There's an interview of Wasim's in Seattle where he was asked if Wasim the caption would pick Wasim the bowler or Waqar the bowler, if he could only have one, and he picked Waqar
Damn right, completely agree, waqar never gets a mention!

How do you possible beat or improve this team?
Dravid for haydos maybe?.....hayden didn't really performed consistently all over the world
Saitama Dravid never opened though in tests...that was my dilemma. The other player I was thinking about was Ali Cook
A better matchup would be 70s80s vs 90s00s in test.

Anderson is an excellent bowler but his record outside of England is not so hot, whereas McGrath had a superb record pretty much everywhere.
