It's funny to me, it seems when people talk about the "great" Australian side of the 90's and 00's they talk about McGrath, Warne, Waugh's, Slaters, Ponting, Gilchrist etc.
People forget how many games Bevan got Austraila out of jail.
Even with these great players Australia would have a far, far worse record if not for Bevan. He saved the team so many times from impossible positions, including in world cups. And yet we hardly remember him now and give the others the credit. He's like a silent letter in a word.

He was excellent at one specific part of the game - keeping the scoreboard ticking in the middle overs of an ODI and often being not out. Not sure if that enough to make you a great of the game like those other names you mention, especially as this style of play has kind of gone out of the game.

Those were the awesome days when we get to see players like Bevan finishing match single handedly. Averaging 57 whole career is beyond imagination, but Bevan was able to do that always. Australia was fortunate to have such a brilliant player in their midst and I was fortunate to have witnessed such a genius when I was in my teens. Unfortunately for Aussies, they cannot produce another Bevan even though they continue to produce brilliant players over and time again. Best wishes from a land where cricket is a religion INDIA. Thank you Michael Bevan.

You are right, but I think we may have found another special player in the name of Steve Smith who could do just the same, albeit from a high batting position than Bevan. Bevan was a match winner though.
Kohli and Smith are the most supreme batsman of our time. Incredible averages both of them.
I'm looking forward to the Test series between these countries later in the year (2018), it could get nasty!

Bevan was a master in oneday format he knows how to finish matches with calm head and the main reason of him doing that is by running singles into twos , he was the best in late 90s and early 2000s , we as indian also wanted some one like that and we got that in msd who in early stages was more of hitter , but as he got captaincy we can clearly see his innings which is pretty similar like bevan as he also used to make runs by making single in twos who can forget his innings against srilanka in 2008 cb series where he help India to won the match without hitting a single boundary and making fifty in run a ball in a must win match , then his some of his best innings in tour of Pakistan in 2006 where he with yuvraj won matches for india , then when in 2012 india was 30 /5 dhoni made a brilliant 100 and get india to respectable total , in 2012 cb series he played brilliantly against Australian to won match in adelaide , then 2013 final in west indies against srilanka from a tuff situation after coming from injury he won india match single handely , and who can forget world cup final which is the best example innings of a finisher in most pressure situation, and all other than that he was also caption and wicketkeeper which is not a easy job ti do

I disagree with the World Cup Final and the win at Adelaide. The Adelaide game was in India's firm grip with a RR of 6 and Dhoni overcomplicated it and made it into 13 off the last over. He pulled it off that time but massively failed in the same tournament v Sri Lanka where he literally threw the game away(including 2 horrible run outs of Gautam Gambhir who was on 91 and Irfan Pathan who was on fire that day with the bat) resulting in a tie which made India to lose their place in the Final.
Rest of the games, spot on.

It's easy to criticise selectors I guess, especially in hindsight. But imagine Hussey and Bevan batting together? Their careers overlapped by a significant amount but they picked Huss very late, and they unceremoniously cut Bevan early for a player of his caliber, even though his performances were fine, because he wasn't "part of the future" for the next world cup. Imagine those two fella's in the middle/lower order, we'd have been just about invincible.

Kinda like Gilchrist in the tests... a man like that coming in at number 7? Ridiculous! lol! Australian teams of the past were fantastic to watch!

Bevan was one of the most extraordinary cricketers I ever saw. Incredible batsman and one of the best ODI players we've seen -- such a shame he didn't perform at test level in the way his talent demanded -- and also an incredibly difficult bowler to face with his unpredictable left arm chinaman deliveries. I think he had the potential to be one of the best all rounders the game has ever produced.

Bichel's running between the wickets was key to the last partnership. many times Bichel was running to the danger end and only because of his fast 1st and quick turn did he make it for the 2nd. otherwise, Bevan wouldn't have had the support he needed to keep his innings. great display from Bevan, how many times did he save the team's skin? countless.

Bevan - The ultimate finisher. He had the habit of winning matches single handedly. With just two or three fours in his big scores, rarely a six, his strike rate astonishingly remained around run a ball, most of the time, thanks to the heaps of singles and twos. But the best thing about him, was his ability to judge a run. He was a beast of runner between the wickets. Exactly opposite of Inzamam.

What a gripping and enticing match this watch. Both teams in the hunt till the end of the game. Sport needs to always be 2sides competing hard against each other and not only one team bullying the other team.
