  • 80W Chinese Co2 Laser Review - eBay Purchased Co2 Laser Engraving & Cutting Machine. With Info on Some Future Improvements. I’ve had this laser machine for a few months now and have already made a few upgrades as you may have seen in my previous videos.
    Co2 Laser Machine Online @ Amazon amzn.to/2J8nwYe
    Note: My Website is Now www.mwlaser.com.au/
    A LIST OF UPGRADE PARTS I USED CAN BE FOUND HERE: mwlaser.com.au/upgrades-for-r...
    To reduce the noise in my workshop I have recently replaced the extraction fan unit for my Co2 Laser, which was very noisy with a 6" inline fan, it is half as quiet as before, with minimal reduction to extraction capabilities. Defiantly worth the Upgrade. Highly recommended.
    US - amzn.to/2NncQdx AU - amzn.to/2RJp3HZ
    mwlaser.com.au/product-catego...
    So I want to review how I find the machine performs but mainly discuss, and things I believe need improvement and would like to change.
    I’ll start by saying that for the price of this machine approx AUD $3300 it performs well right out of the box with all the budget accessories that it came with. If you have seen the un-boxing video I made when the machine arrived you will see it came with an aquarium pump, exhaust blower and hoses, and a small air pump.
    After using this machine for a few months now, I will say that I have not had any issues with any of the accessory pumps and fans. They do what they were designed to do and would be ok to remain if I only used the machine a few hours a week.
    After a lot of testing with cut settings, power speed, and air; I have the machine performing quite well. It has handled any task I have given it so far. I have been cutting and engraving with success with Plyboard, MDF, Acrylic, Laserable plastics, Foils, timber and engraving Aluminium.
    (1:20) This machine has a lot to offer but there are also things that need improving.
    Here are ten things I don’t like on this machine and will update and improve.
    (1:51) 1 - Laser Controller
    (2:22) 2 - The machine came without any gauges - amzn.to/2RLdh00
    (3:48) 3 - The water cooling - amzn.to/2Lo1jrP
    (5:30) 4 - The internal lighting in the machine
    (6:40) 5 - The LED Red Dot - amzn.to/2Njq5Mz
    (8:35) 6 - Air supply
    (9:30) 7 - Air assist
    (12.01) 8 - Exhaust Air Flow - amzn.to/2Nfw5pt
    (12:58) 9 - Z-Axis lift table
    (16:03) 10 - The Honeycomb bed
    (18:43) I would like to add that although I use and recommend Cloudray Laser for my laser components, this video does not include paid sponsorship by Cloudray laser. I have found their products, service and support to be exceptional.
    For open and full disclosure future videos may include components from Cloudray Laser for me to test and review, the opinions of the products and their performance will be my own.
    Until next time, take care
    Cheers Matthew

      This is a good idea. Depending on your climate you should consider a CW5000 chiller. Here in Australia during summer the water temperature changes rapidly due to ambient temperature in the workshop regularly over 30 deg C

    Hey Matt, when you upgraded the LED lights, were you able to gain some Y axis ?
    I noticed on my blk/red 80w, the F-Stop keeps the wiring harness from hitting the bulb, and there is probably another 3 inches of bed.
    Also, what voltage was that tube bulb, is it AC or 12v DC ? Did you do a video on the LED lights? Did you put LED strip on the back of the front bar too?

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  3 года назад

      I put the 12v strip light on all 4 sides, and used the power pack supplied with the lights. I could possibly gain some extra work area, but I haven't the need to as I also operate 2 other machines 1300x900.

    Matt, I have noticed if I run a project with the fill-line option and the speed is above 200, they do not align with each other. I have to slow the speed down to get things to line up. I never had this problem with my k40, have you experienced this? What would cause this? I have tightned my belts, but I cannot for the life of me figure this out. Once again, thanks for your help!

    At 5:30, you discuss the lighting improvement. Do you have a video showing how to wire that? Do you need a step-down transformer . . . or do you simply hook up the light strip directly to the switch? Did you have to modify the case at all -- or did you just use adhesive tape to mount the lights around the box?

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  4 года назад

      I purchased a strip light with self-adhesive back, it was wired by using it's own independent power supply and then wired through the spare switch on the front of the machine. No modifications to the case were needed. Cheers Matt

    Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I recently bought the same machine and encountered the same constraints. Seems I will have to spend a fair bit on upgrades. I cannot find any reference in the manual how to focus. Can you advise?

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  5 лет назад

      Hi Deon, Focusing is done by moving the z axis (work bed) up and down to a set height from the end of the laser lens tube, usually the machines are sent with a focusing gauge. the gauge is placed on its' edge between the work material and the nozzle. (this will obviously need to be adjusted for each material thickness).
      I did a video a while back on testing the focus gap, you will find it here ruclips.net/video/KosCT1iMDc0/видео.html
      If you have any other questions email me (address in video description)

    Hey Matt, grat vids.
    I am looking to buy one of these exclusively to engrave TroLase. Is the 80w necessary or would a 60w or smaller be more appropriate if purely doing trolase material?
    Have only ever used Diode lasers (ie Emblaser) and have never been able to get a good result with Trolase. Hoping CO2 is the answer, but finding it difficult to find any info on engraving it other than with the professional trotec machines etc. Would love to hear more about your experience with this very common material. Thanks mate, Michael (Perth WA)

  • @jekroes
    @jekroes 5 лет назад +1

    Thanks for sharing... I know you aren't happy with the red dot for aligning but couldn't you use it as a visual way to focus the table? Just fire a dot onto the material then move the table up or down until the red dot lines up. That should work, right?

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for your comment. The issue with the red dot is not that it is only accurate when in focus, it is also easily knocked out of alignment and the mounting design is weak. Even a light touch on the dot will bump it out of place.
      Doing a laser pulse the material requires a piece of waste material the same thickness to test fire onto, which is what I currently do.
      The other issue is that when engraving on certain materials I run the engraving part of the job out of focus for various reasons one being to reduce visible engraving lines, so when out of focus the issue remains if I want to recheck position of the engraving space with the red dot it would need to be adjusted again for the out of focus location.
      So the solution is the beam combiner that I will be installing. This has arrived and I hope to have a video out as soon as I can clear a backlog of jobs I have that are needed right now.
      Cheers Matthew

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  4 года назад +1

      Yes, you can mark metals such as anodised aluminium. To mark permanently on some metals like stainless steel, you can apply a product such as CerMark or MarkSolid before lasering.
      So the answer is No. This laser cannot engrave metals, but there are products that you can apply to some metals to mark it.

    Is it necessary to wear glasses? which one do you recommend?

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  5 лет назад

      There are various opinions to this question. The short answer is... Definitely if you like your eyes & Use machine with cover closed.
      Look for quality glasses designed and certified for Co2 Laser 10600nm. They are inexpensive.

    have you come across the problem of inverting the image.

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  4 года назад

      Yes this can be simply because the Homing origin of the machine is incorrectly set in the software. Check your home(datum) position if Top Right matches in your software. if in the software it is set to Top Left the image will be inverted when you process the job.

    I got mine a couple of weeks ago and after just 1.25 hours of use, the unit is no longer engraving clearly and looks lousy. I tried to clean the lens and it just made it worse. When I opened the lens to clean it, I noticed that is was chipped and so I am thinking that I was sent a defective unit. Very disappointed in the company. I have yet to hear from them. Beware!

    • @MWLaser

      Unfortunate experience. Lenses are easily chipped or cracked if they are over tightened in the lens tube or if dropped when cleaning. I hope you find a solution to this. Some suppliers & manufacturers are not as reliable as others, so after sales experience is not the same for all.
