To avoid the "smoke" residue, change starting point to front of work area. That way as the laser moves over the project, it removes the smoke residue. Starting from the back of the machine does the opposite.
With these Chinese Lasers there's always a bug in the system! And this is probably the 1001st laser unboxing I've watched. Excited to see more videos from you on it!

put a tie-wrap around the bottom of your return water hose inside the bucket to keep it from popping out while it's running. been there, done that. you can also use recycled frozen water bottles to keep the water below 70 degrees.
Dont know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but I would highly recommend a water cooler to keep water temps stable. I'm in Texas so I'm concerned with the water getting too hot. You may not have that problem.
You're absolutely right, I survived in the winter months but come summer I ordered an S&A 5000 chiller well worth it if you are doing production cuts and engravings. I've run the laser for 16 hours straight and it hold the temp right where it needs to be.
My Friend have laser cutter similar and he made the bucket to fit into the fridge and hes getting really cool temperature for cutting, he uses hios cutter like 20/7 and have no problem with overheating
Im in the process of buying the 80w version and will probably take the industrial cooler instead of the aquarium pump. Seems so unsafe not knowing what the cooling temperature is :O
Yes I highly recommend the chiller if in an area that stays below 70F the 3000 should work but if in a hot space like mine the 5000 keeps the temp where it needs to be.

7:53 “Water temperature didn’t change at all. That’s really a good thing.” Yeah, either that or it’s not flowing through the laser tube. I’d actually be worried if the coolant temperature didn’t change.
You know I said it didn't change but it actually did a few degrees. I've got a chiller running now and its great. No more running around with frozen water bottles.

Thanks for the video I am just starting out in this space. That's a lot to spend for me to see I will grow into it. I might just start with a small one that etches card first. Thanks
Yes it is quite a lot maybe look into starting with a diode laser first if your interested I have a video showing off my favorite diode laser the xtool D1 it's pretty incredible
I got a 100W otherwise the same exact machine. I am a bit concerned however, that the laser does not align with the rest of the optics. Laser sits about ¼" higher and a little bit farther to the back of the machine that the first mirror. I presume at this point that if I shim the first mirror, I am going to have to shim everything else. BTW, I installed the laser tube as it came in a separate package. Not sure if I should fire this thing up and see what happens or fiddle with it first.
Mirror alignment is a skill all in of itself. There are lots of videos on getting them aligned. Russ at Sarbar multimedia just put out a great video on mirror alignment
I got this same laser, but 80 watt version (supposedly) last year...and a cold snap caused the water cooling to shatter the laser tube. A replacement RECI 80 watt laser was $700, and I just got it installed this weekend. I'm basically starting over, following your videos for ideas! Thanks for a great startup video!
I will be doing the same at some point once my tube finally gives up on me. Sorry to hear about the shattered tube but bet that new one is much more quality.
I only skimmed through the video, but wanted to share that I bought one of them big blue 50W about a year ago. I found it on amazon from a warehouse in the US which was cool. Mine was a little cheaper and came with a rotary tool, but that red one looks cooler for sure. That full honeycomb bed is nice. Mine is just steel bed so I had to buy a honeycomb separate and still havent quite found one that can really maximize my work area so with bigger projects I'm cutting I have to improvise by using bolts spread around as raisers to keep the bottom free of all that resin when cutting. My Laser paid for itself like 4 or 5 times now. I use it regularly and havent had any issues with the machine. As long as a person is commited to learning without any decent tech support the chinese lasers really arent a bad buy.
@@ChadsCustomCreations So true, me and my wife are looking into UV printers now, but they are still such a new thing we havent found great info on them as a whole let alone the cheaper chinese models, but hopefully in the year or so we might commit to buying something.
@@naRevolution Hello, I am interested in acquiring one of these Chinese machines but they have given me so much bad reference that I have not made up my mind yet, I would like to hear your opinion about it, have you given some kind of failure? or did you have to make any improvements?
@@sonando8094 I've had mine for over 2 years now and havent had to replace anything, fix, or improve anything. While it isnt where I got mine back then if I were to buy a new one now I would probably go through OMTech Laser. They are chinese machines, but as far as i can tell they have offices and warehouses out of california with english speaking tech support. They have a youtube channel I believe, and a nice variety of machines to choose from based on power, performance, ease of use, and budget.
LOL, did you know you can remove the screws on the bottom and the whole thing lifts right off the pallet? I have that exact same laser but in Yellow and black, the doors are black the rest is yellow. I bought a CW5200 chiller, mix distilled water and RV antifreeze to keep the water clean, and since it is in a chiller it is also sealed to prevent growth or evaporation. You are also the first person I have ever seen debug a laser controller. LOL A couple tips, replace the lens with a good one, Get a 2" lens, you will notice a difference right away, also replace and properly align the mirrors. I use copper mirrors. The mirrors and lens that these come with are cheap and don't reflect enough energy, also on mine the lens was cloudy, should be crystal clear(yellow in color). Got mine from MCWlaser. Also protect your tube by reducing the max power to 80%-90% at the controller, you never want to run the included tube at full power because the power supply is set to a 60watt tube, but these are actually 50watt tubes. Check the length and diameter to confirm. I see you installed a ma meter, put a mark at ~20 and try not to exceed it, and your tube will last a lot longer. A true 60 watt tube is 55mm diameter by 1200mm, the tubes in these Chasers are 55mm x 1100 mm which are 50 watts. They overdrive them to get 60 watts, which shortens the tube life. When my tube has run it's course I will upgrade to a RECI 100Watt and power supply, only need to make an extension cap for the box. These are surprisingly very good lasers for what they cost, they just need some fine tuning and TLC and they are just as good as some American name brand $8000 and higher lasers.
@@ChadsCustomCreations Well, I try to avoid FB as much as possible. I plan to set up a Chaser group on MEWE. I call them Chaser since they are chinese lasers.
Yeah looking back I got my right before Covid started to show up and at first I was like oh lord I made a huge mistake, but in the end having that laser during that time was crucial to my business's survival.
It is actually still alive and well, I have replaced the tube and the power supply as a result of the water hoses coming loose and causing an electrical arc at the tube causing it to crack. This could have been avoided had i or the manufacturer put hose clamps on the connection points.
@Chads Custom Creations Thanks, Chad, for the swift reply. Glad to hear it's still alive (asides from the issues stemming from unclamped hoses that cracked the tube). The reason I asked is because I'm looking at purchasing a Wattsan engraving laser (their 0305 60w model or their 6040 ST 80w model) but not much rave about them on the web or actual customers considering they are, and have a brand. Have heard of this hrand? A risk I'm willing to take as I've grown to like their products through watching a series of their product videos. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to respond. It means a lot to me. Keep up with the great videos.
Absolutely need a good carbon system when running this... especially for the neighborhood. I’d prioritize that over the water filter, as long as you can keep the temp in check like you said. Awesome video 👍🏻 get a GOOD filter system 👍🏻
Kyle sadly this laser is not associated with any brand but thankfully all of these Co2 lasers all work on the same principles so if you look up how to fix it for one machine it will be very similar to this one.
This particular one has no branding and sadly these laser have gone up 8n price quite substantially. If you check the links in the description I have linked laser that are very similar.

About to make a after one year update video showing how much I've done and what was the the return on investment. If it broke today and I couldn't fix it I would order another in a heartbeat. Does the one your looking have, have the ruida controller? Same push buttons as mine?

I say if you have the space it is totally worth it. After a year and a half mine is still up and running and only major issue I had was slicone water tubing came loose and allowed moisture up near the tube. I stupidly kept running the machine and the high voltage wire arched fries the power supply and cracked the laser tube. This again was after 18 months of use and I could have prevented this by adding hose clamps on the water connections.
Great video man just wondering do you wish you went bigger at all wattage wise or do you think this is sufficient for your workload? I plan to be buying one in a bit just trying to decide 50 vs 60 vs 70 which I know mean actually 40 vs 50 vs 60. Thanks for the input!
Thank you, you know size wise it works out great fir me especially with the pass through. Powerwise it has worked great, I can cut 1/4 material at a good speed. And my plan is possibly to upgrade the power supply and tube to maybe a 100w once the original starts to wear out.
Since this one was already stateside there was no import tax, or I should say it was already included in the price they advertised since they already paid it to get it to a warehouse in the US.
Yo bubba. Good vid. I am looking for the right laser to set up my new shop with. Interested to see how this one works for you. I need the most bang for the buck, right. What are you using for programs and what does it come with? Will it run lightburn? Congrats!!!!
Comes with RD works software but I went straight to lightburn. I think the main thing is make sure whatever you get has a ruida controller all the buttons and interface will look like mine. I know these are the most sought after and work with lightburn.
Any chance you have the link to the Ebay Store? I am ready to order one. Did they give you free shipping? I know you ordered the extra tailgate lift service.
I do not have that particular one anymore as sellers on ebay come and go so rapidly. Though I have put links to similar lasers in the description on Amazon and I believe lift gate and shipping is all included on the prices you see on there.
Ok so what I've learned is essentially these are the same thing I use at work to cut steel? How thick of metal will these cut or do they just engrave stuff
Not exactly these are Co2 lasers which are great for cutting bio materials like wood leather and strangely really great at acrylic. To cut metal you will most likely need a very very high wattage "fiber" laser I believe. Although I have seen some people add oxygen to the air assist and I think I have seen some Co2 lasers cut metal. But out of the box these cannot effect metals.
@@ChadsCustomCreations well shit I'm not spending a million bucks to cut a hand full of things to build derby parts lol guess I'll keep sneaking in things on sheets at work lol

hi Chads thanks for your video i want to buy the same machine but 100w do you think is good enough to engrave on metal like stein steel ? I need to youse on bar shaker . bar spoon and glasses thanks for your help
Hello if you want to really engrave metals look into fiber lasers. Co2 lasers like this can add coatings coatings to metal but cannot really engrave into the metal. These can however do glass.
@@MrPhantom302 I actually tried to get it before posting this video but sadly the seller on eBay has stopped selling no idea why he still had good ratings. Hola ¿podrías decirme cuanto mide sin la parte de abajo el soporte tipo mesa?, solo la maquina. Quiero saber si entra en una vivienda por las puertas. Gracias.
Thanks for sharing this video, I was looking into getting the 80 watt version of this laser cutter/engraver (330 lbs worth) ... I noticed you didn't use any air filtration unit at all, just vented directly outside? I plan to work with 6mm MDF and 3mm Acrylic materials and I'm environmentally conscience not to mention my neighbors would probably get pissed off if I vented unfiltered ... as you have shown in your video, it looked like your house was on fire from the fumes. Have you considered an air filtration system? If so, recommendations? Also, any chance you have a DB reading on the noise it generates from about 20 feet away?
I went with the 60w cause I believe its the highest voltage without the bump out of the side although once my tube goes out I may go ahead and upgrade it like some have done. In the video the fumes are normally not that bad I believe that wood had a lot of moisture in it at the time causing what looked like a house fire. The noise from the stock fan is pretty loud I don't have any readings but I would say pretty close to a lead blower, though I've seen people upgrade that to a much quieter online fan. I'll be putting out more videos dealing strictly with the laser, wanting to do a series on will it cut. I'm thinking pizza is a must.
I had access to an 80W laser cutter at a local makerspace, at least until Melbourne went into lockdown in March. My experience with cutting MDF is that it reeks and is a possible health hazard. If you have neighbours nearby, I’d say filtration is a must.
You can make a carbon filter unit that sits next to the cabinet for between $300-$400. Also, unless you already made a purchase, you can save some money by buying the 60 watt laser and buying a GOOD RECI 80w tube and power supply, or even go up to a 100W tube. The cost is ~$600 plus shipping for the tube and supply, and you get a True 80 watts. An end cap can be made from 4" PVC drain pipe and a flange and cap from Home Depot.
Still waiting to see a strong Canadian through some melamine above his head in home depot. That bucket worked in the winter and spring. Couldn't hang in the summer heat, I'll be doing a short video on the upgrades I've added to my setup soon.
What's the machine size of this? I have some doors and the one with the smallest width is 87cm 🙄 I would love to buy one with 70x50cm, but I'm unsure if it fits through the door
Sorry for the late reply. I actually don’t have this machine anymore so I can’t get the measurements anymore. Though in my I Quit video I show of the RM J750 it has a very small footprint but packs a mighty punch I would suggest taking a look at it.
Hi. I just both this laser. Now I have question for the air pump - one comes out from machine and go to the air pump but where goes from the air pump - no where... From the video looks like that
So with my particular laser it has a sperate air pump that plugs into the air inlet on the backside of ny machine. I have a friend who has a machine that looks like mine but the air pump is an internal device. There should be air blowing out of the tip of the laser head this aides in keeping the lense clean, better cuts, and reduces the chances of fires.
@@lilianaraasik great yes that air tube will plug into the back of your machine where it says air inlet. Only needs to be turn on when laser is cutting or engraving.
@@ChadsCustomCreations ok nice. thank you. then i understood right. I think my laser is then set up. the fear is biger that i do something wrong but actually its not very complicated. anyway thank you.
Hi again. Now everything is set up but... how i durn it on. I have key do i need turn it on from the key. I have looking around in youtube but nobody shows this how to first time turn it on. I'm pretty home with technic but with electric ....
At the 18th month mark the coolant lines did loosen up on me during a big production run. This caused water to get up near the high voltage side of the laser tube. Had I been more cautious and not in a rush I could have prevented an electrical arc that caused the glass tube to break and fried my power supply. A few hundred dollars later and about a week waiting for shipping it is back up and operational. I would buy another if I had the space.
We read that these red colored machines are a problem, with the manufacturer having problems with the machines, and not being interested, or capable of fixing those problems. It will be interesting to see how this one does.
Yeah that's definitely the downsides to it but reach out to me or the communities on Facebook or reddit all together the support there is pretty great.
I just got mine about a month ago and it was advertised as a 60w but in fact tube had measurements of a 50w. Do you have a milliamp meter on yours, mine has a digital one on the tube power supply and I've always kept it below 20ma and that is around 75 percent power. Is yours a true 60w or a 50w like mine? My tube didn't have any rating about max power like others say to look for. How did you determine safe power setting for your laser. Glad to find your channel, I'm in North Alabama, heard someone mention you're in Georgia.
It's been a minute since I have measured the tube but I do believe my is a true 60w I'll double check though. I did install a multimeter and also keep mine below 20ma by running 60% I probably could bump it up a little more maybe 75% would be fine for mine also. I'm gonna attempt to slice a pizza I'll go 100% for that one 😄 Yes thats correct I am in middle GA. Glad you found me I just released a second laser video showing the rotary I set up on mine.

thanx for the video, i want to buy the 60w and now i have an idea on how to transport it, gracias
Best of luck to you, I hope it brings as much joy to you as mine has a year later.
Twill Applique, Fabrics, leather would be nice to see and if you have any feed back about the 100 watts one, Looking to buy it🙏🏼
I have a 120w now and it’s amazing thanks for watching sorry this reply took so long.
BTW, I installed the laser tube as it came in a separate
package. Not sure if I should fire this thing up and see what happens or fiddle with it first.
Mirror alignment is a skill all in of itself. There are lots of videos on getting them aligned. Russ at Sarbar multimedia just put out a great video on mirror alignment
That's awesome. Does that thing really just run off of a 110 outlet in your garage? No need for 220?
That is correct!
Unless you expect your bucket to freeze i would turn off the heater as its not needed unless you think it will freeze
Only had it in there for the winter and to get the water up to 59 degrees it would freeze as this is just in my garage workshop.
Great to hear, it's really quite a time to be alive I love that commoners like us can afford such tools that allow for so much creativity.
@@ChadsCustomCreations So true, me and my wife are looking into UV printers now, but they are still such a new thing we havent found great info on them as a whole let alone the cheaper chinese models, but hopefully in the year or so we might commit to buying something.

Hello, I am interested in acquiring one of these Chinese machines but they have given me so much bad reference that I have not made up my mind yet, I would like to hear your opinion about it, have you given some kind of failure? or did you have to make any improvements?
@@sonando8094 I've had mine for over 2 years now and havent had to replace anything, fix, or improve anything. While it isnt where I got mine back then if I were to buy a new one now I would probably go through OMTech Laser. They are chinese machines, but as far as i can tell they have offices and warehouses out of california with english speaking tech support. They have a youtube channel I believe, and a nice variety of machines to choose from based on power, performance, ease of use, and budget.
Co2 helmet mounted lasers work great for self defense
I'd wear it, especially against mosquitoes.
LOL
A couple tips, replace the lens with a good one, Get a 2" lens, you will notice a difference right away, also replace and properly align the mirrors.
This is a ton of valuable information we need to be friends are you on FB or Instagram also?
@@ChadsCustomCreations Well, I try to avoid FB as much as possible. I plan to set up a Chaser group on MEWE. I call them Chaser since they are chinese lasers.
Its crazy to think that one year ago you could get one of these for $2000. The same 60w today is $3000.
Yeah looking back I got my right before Covid started to show up and at first I was like oh lord I made a huge mistake, but in the end having that laser during that time was crucial to my business's survival.
Hey Chad. Great video! Two years on. I'm checking in to know how your Chinese laser is faring. Still going good? TIA

For a while…
I say if you have the space it is totally worth it.
Can you cut metal with this? Also what program are you using to run this laser with? Or does it come with one?
No Co2 lasers are not good with metals. Fiber lasers can engrave metal and maybe cut. I can use a spray to etch a coating onto metals though.
Nice one, what did they charge you for importing the laser? Looking at getting one.

Chads Custom Creations Thanks for the response, look forward to more info as you progress.
I had access to an 80W laser cutter at a local makerspace, at least until Melbourne went into lockdown in March. My experience with cutting MDF is that it reeks and is a possible health hazard. If you have neighbours nearby, I’d say filtration is a must.
@@markgearing Thank you, appreciate the response ... yes air filtration is on my must include list.

Will it do metal
You can add coatings to metal similar to powder coating with a co2 laser but to truly engrave into metal you need a fiber laser.
It's been a year how's everything holding up?
At the 18th month mark the coolant lines did loosen up on me during a big production run. This caused water to get up near the high voltage side of the laser tube. Had I been more cautious and not in a rush I could have prevented an electrical arc that caused the glass tube to break and fried my power supply. A few hundred dollars later and about a week waiting for shipping it is back up and operational. I would buy another if I had the space.

Glad to find your channel, I'm in North Alabama, heard someone mention you're in Georgia.

Yeah don’t put bleach 😂
Yeah I haven’t needed too, I think good distilled water and keeping the bacteria out I have not had any grime build up.
@@ChadsCustomCreations I mean a little bleach probably nothing happens but bleach goes after just about any metals and it could degrade the rubber hoses. Anyways enjoy your channel 👍
