    Works perfectly, thanks. I did not use the relay, but am considering it to control the exhaust fan, but from a spare switch on the front of the laser.
    May add the air compressor and cooler in the same manner just via front panel switches as well. I'll replace the external power outlets with proper 240V 3 pin Australian ones in the process, and will likely add compressor/cooler/fan power via a separate inlet at the rear rather than the main power to the laser

    This add-on works beautifully. I've spent a couple of days trying to wire up a "Delay Off" relay with no success. It would be very useful to keep the exhaust going for 5-10 seconds to clear the enclosure. Would you consider coming up with a wiring diagram for this and a link to the proper Delay Off hardware?

    Great video! Especially helpful since I didn't receive any instructions with my Ultimate Air Assist kit! I am puzzled, though, by your comments about hooking your exhaust fan to the relay, so when the air assist relay kicks on, your exhaust fan kicks on. But what about exhaust when you're doing engraving and not cutting? Seems you would want exhaust on whenever the laser is running. Only turning it on when cutting would also tend to fog your lens. Am I missing something here? Thanks for your clarification, and thanks for your great videos-- very helpful!

    • @ShaGGYUK
      @ShaGGYUK 4 года назад

      I was thinking the same, would be better to have exhaust fan kick in whenever a job or the laser is active?
      also ideally would require a delay (off) to give it time to completely exhaust al the smoke at the end.

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  4 года назад +1

      With the ultimate air assist kit the relay switches power to the exhaust and the air pump.
      When you select Air ON or OFF the relay still turns on both the Air pump and exhaust so they are always ON when the laser is operating. The ultimate air assist kit also includes a pneumatic solenoid, it is that solenoid that turns ON or OFF with the engraving or cut layer options for Air on or off. This solenoid also allows a small flow of air to protect the lens while the laser is running even if you have selected Air off for engraving.
      The result is. when you start laser, the relay switches on Air pump and Exhaust, the solenoid controls Air on or off for each part of laser work, then at completion of job relay turns off air pump and exhaust.
      I hope this explanation answers your questions.
      Cheers Matt

    • @MWLaser

      Install a tap on the air line, and the pressure regulator, this will help with reducing the drain on the tank when you're not cutting. If you have the air assist solenoid installed this also reduces the air flow when air is not required.

    Please add the steps necessary to turn on air assist output in the vendor settings on the controller. I just spent several hours troubleshooting my install and finally decided to go through the controller options.

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  4 года назад

      G'day, there are not any Vendor Settings required to enable air assist. The option to have air on or off is set on the Layers of your work plan. Eg if you have a Layer that is set to cut you open the layer and make the changes there. Eg for RD works open the a Layer of your job, and you will see the option "If Blowing", set this to Yes if you want air on, or No if you want air off. You make the necessary changes on each layer you have for your work. In Lightburn there is also the option in the Layers labelled "Air Assist"... again turn on for Air on, and Off for no Air Assit.
      Cheers Matt

    To get the air solenoid to work I had to change the vendor settings to “Enable air-assist output - true” in Lightburn. The green LED on the relay is on. I have 3 outlets on the back of my laser that are daisy-chained. I routed the supply from the second one to terminal 9 and then from 5 to the 3rd outlet, where the air pump is connected. When I bypass the relay by checking terminal 9 to the negative on the 3rd outlet my circuit tester shows 124 volts. When I check terminals 9 to 5 I get 67 volts. Do you think the relay could be bad?

    Hello Matt, thank you for this video. I decided to buy it after watching your video, I thought i could do it!
    But now, after receiving the product I have a couple of questions, it seems more difficult:
    1. Can I connect the air blower (550w, 220v) to the same plug or just the air pump? The relay switch can support it?
    2.1 I didn't understand how did you connect the wires to the plug, (between 11:37 and 12:25), did you remove the old plug wires?
    2.2 I am missing some details, relating to the relay switch. Where goes the cable number 9 (and is a power in or out) and number 5 wire?
    2.3 Is the controller supporting the power of that plug (as source) 24 volts?
    3. The last question, it's a beginner question, but is important what kind of wires I need to buy? 0,5 copper wire, because seems you are using two types one for 220v and other for 24v?
    Thanks for your videos and support

How do I install the diode and then the wire? Do I bend the tips of the diode 90° down and insert them WITH the wires? Your schematic covers up what you're doing.

    hi matt .... im awaiting delivery of my compressor, until then im using this Air Assist in combination with a built in air pump that only turns off if i pull the plug out ...when i toggle the switch it reduces the amount of air considerably i imagine this is to stop the lens fogging up..will this ruin the pump or is normal to be able to regulate the flow of the pump
    regards tony

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  3 года назад

      you are right - this is to prevent lens fog and protect lens. As to the pump, there is extra resistance when air solenoid is closed, but I don't believe it would ruin the pump, maybe put in a switch to manually control pump power so it may be turned off after you finish with the laser and not leave it run too long on restricted flow. Cheers Matt

      This is for the earth grounding cable. Yes the connection is a pole screw on the back of the machine near the power output sockets. The grounding cable gets attached to that and a then run the other end to your earth ground rod. This is different in each country and electrical code, and with me not being an electrician cannot give advice on this, I consulted an electrician when making a decision about this on my machine, I'd suggest doing the same if unsure.
      With my setup I have been advised that in Australia the earth grounding is the third prong on my 240v power lead and I do not need the additional earth grounding.

    • @MWLaser

      air will pass though when solenoid is switched off, that is by design to protect lens it requires a small air flow. to adjust the air flow with solenoid off use the valve to reduce flow, if you cannot reduce flow enough you can add a better or additional valve.

    • @MWLaser

      On the RDC6445 the STATUS and WIND are both GND terminals. They are switched to GND when they are activated. In other words when machine is active for STATUS or WIND they are switched on to GND and you will have 24+ VDC between the 24V terminal and the STATUS and WIND. When machine does not have active STATUS or WIND they will read 0 VDC

    What is the purpose of the solenoid valve? If I'm interpreting the schematic symbol correctly, the solenoid allows unrestricted flow when the air pump is off (but since the air pump is off, nothing is flowing), and volume controlled flow when the air pump is on. Why not just put the volume control in line and skip the solenoid? I get using a solenoid with an air compressor (though I don't think this specific solenoid configuration wouldn't work with an air compressor), but I don't understand it's application with an air pump. Can anyone clarify? Thanks!

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  3 года назад +1

      The air pump/air compressor is always ON supplying air to the the solenoid valve (SV).
      The SV the RESTRICTS the air flow to allow a minimum flow when you select Air OFF on the cut layer in the software. (This protects the lens from smoke and fumes getting to the lens due to the positive pressure).
      The SV opens to provide FULL air flow when the Air ON is selected in the cut layer.

    Do you really want the air pump to turn off? By the look of that solenoid, it allows a little bit of air through a restrictor to keep air flowing through the head even when air assist is off, I would imagine to keep the lens from getting fogged. Surely if the air pump is off, this feature wouldn’t work.

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  3 года назад

      The air pump starts at beginning of job, and remains on until the job is completed and then switches off. The solenoid controls partial or full air as set in layers of the job. So air is protecting lens from fogging throughout the entire engraving and cutting process.
