I am two months in SC now and I feel quite bored. The variety of missions is limited, and they are very repeatable. Once you get used you know every time what will happen and what to expect. I also find space combat extremely basic compared to other space sims and the flight model quite limiting. I still enter in the game from time to time for the immersion. The one thing that SC does better than any other game is the immersion. It looks beautiful and simply wondering around feels great. Gameplay wise however there is almost nothing to do after two months in the game.

I was a new player, well hadn't played for 8 years. Started last week.
The game is a broken mess, so much so it's frustrating and I am genuinely embarrassed for CIG.
No way does CIG have 700 Devs, I'm calling their bluff on that one.
The current PU game loops especially bunker missions and FPS missions are frustrating, broken and an absolute waste of time for any casual player.
Bugs that have been around for months.
The PU should be show casing SC and generating hype, but it's not.
There's no active bug fix team that I can see.
Game breaking bugs , enemies not spawning, narcotics and mission items not spawning, bunker lifts broken, the player can not enter the mission.
Loot that can not be picked up .
Derelict ship missions, NPC crew not spawning, the derelicts where players fall through floors, glitch on graphics, get stuck and have to suicide or log out to fix
It is up to the content creators to call CIG out, to fix the current game loops in the PU.
    Alpha is not an excuse
Awaiting new game systems ( yes that old carrot on a stick ) is not an excuse.
Tell the truth, don't polish a turd , call out the bugs and that they don't get fixed, call out that it's frustrating to play.
Call them out, we deserve a working game environment to attract new players and restore faith to older backers
How can you say that mining is complex?
It's a hello kitty mini game with a random scale, extremely tedious after a few hours and the only game loop that actually works.
A lovely game to look at yes, but broken beyond belief .
Please call CIG out to fix the game play bugs.
Last night was 5/5 missions bugged, that was my two hour gaming window gone, so frustrating.
Big server wide events, huge space battles? FFS tell the truth, 50 players max but can only handle about 8 before it janks out and frame rate turns to garbage with 99% chance the event will bug. The Xeno event was a meme FFS!
    Tell the truth !
To be completely honest? Then do it, call CIG out.
    Fix the bugs!

I think for the solo player star citizen at its current form is extremely limited, especially since any sort of progress you do will eventually get wiped since its still a work in progress game, it takes a special type of person to play this game at its current form because it does have bugs, glitches, crash to desktop, brain dead AI on the ground or in space, but one thing that it has that beats current space sims is its immersive system, granted there's only one at the moment. I believe that people will get a lot more in the current iteration of the game if you join an active group/org that plays together and make use of the game as a sandbox. I do hope the developers finally finish SQ42 and release it so they can finally focus on building Star Citizen and the PU hopefully they finally get the PU working with PES/MES and fully flesh out the MMO that is Star Citizen.

I'm similar to you in that I started playing a little over 3 years ago and love the game for what it is right now. I do have high hopes for it, but I keep them reigned in for the simple fact that this IS a very ambitious project. And it seems to grow in that ambition with every patch. I'm worried that it will end up infinitely chasing the next newest technology just to keep up with that ambition. They've made great leaps in the game since I started in 2018, and it's actually more enjoyable now, especially since they (mostly) got rid of the 30k issue. There are still bugs, and they'll be fixed, and more bugs will be introduced with the next patch, but that's the nature of a game in development.
Having said that, it's soooo worth it to play right now. If you can't find something to do, ask around. There are always people looking for a turret gunner or someone to fill a slot on a Mole. Even solo though is very rewarding. Get into mining with a Prospector and make loads of creds, buy ships you want to try out, or just hoard your wealth. But it's definitely the most enjoyable with other players.

Okay. But there are ships in the game that cost way way more. And don't give me this, you don't have to buy them crap.
People have spent thousands and thousands on this unfinished garbage and that's the only reason it's still in development is because of the gullible individuals who support this.
If everyone had your attitude and ONLY spent $45 on this game it would have ceased to exist a long time ago.
The ONLY reason the development has been able to continue is the predatory practices of selling people ships, some of which aren't even playable yet.
So everyone you say afterwards is irrelevant. It's like walking into a casino and saying oh you can just buy some tacos and play penny slots if you want and then leave.
Like sure you can but most people don't.
Most people see the new ships and keep buying into the game with the hopes that it will be better.

it is like that of the falling activision-blizzard, and the falling frontier dev.
      3) managment. Good management will study the progress rate of the workers/developers and provide ever increasing in accuracy estimates for deadlines and sub-deadlines for releases and such. And if errors are made, good management takes ownership of failures, blaming no one but themselves, for oversight is their perview and authority; and will communicate as such back to ALL financial backers. Such are the teachings of quality instruction in management and reflected in the types of questions asked in interviews for management positions. @Rheumattica yes it is. White Knights have a problem with defending someone or some organization as if they can do no wrong, even to the point of overrunning and trampling on someone who points out a fair and credible point, such as understanding the game design process and knowing the pace of it and how a stated deadline that was announce is going too be missed and getting falsely condemned as a hater by a mob of defenders just for pointing out the realistic issue of the process and how it will lead to missing that release date.
Just like how a boyfriend would knowingly defend his girlfriend even when that Bf knows the GF made false accusations of rape against someone else. They haven't talked too much about it but it sounds like elite dangerous where you pay a fraction of the ships price to get it back and ships will be much harder to destroy by then. So you will most likely be able to limp your ship to a station.

if you have a good gaming computer and great internet and love space exploration and stuff then I suggest the game. It's a VERY beautiful game. The problem I had was it only was fun for a week. :(

I feel bad there are only a couple of days left to try the game for free, because it looks really intriguing, even with limitations considered. The community sounds amazing.

after you explore all the cities and ships you will get bored very quickly since the actual gameplay is the same thing over and over again. that being said its really awesome and fun the first time you play and explore

Just think October 2022 it will be ten years since the Kickstarter began. We use to joke about it taking ten years for it to come out. Never imagined it was going to take twenty. Of course we do have the Alpha still to play around in.

I want to enjoy this game sooo sooo bad but I have no clue what to do and I purchased a ship and everything. I'm stuck on home world. Also its stuck on 60 fps or less I think, even when settings are low af and my PC is far from bad lol

If you don't have a PC that could successfully be used by NASA to launch a capsule to the space station, Dont bother buying into it. The concept of the game is beyond everything else on the current market, if your happy being hit by bugs & constant fps drops then be my guest. Also as a reference my rig is the following AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, 64GB ram at 3600MHz & a ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce RTX 3090 24GB.

I love this game and yes there are glitches. Loud Guns, the server crash is currently losing my cargo loads. Logging out in bed can bring you back under the surface of a moon or even at the sun. I'm hanging on for new developments. $45 is nothing for the amount of fun it pays back. Visually the game is stunning. It's truly immersive.

How many hours roughly have you played so far? I bought Space Engineers for $20 bucks and have close to 2k hours so that was a good investment.

@@tomc8157 I've been playing for almost two years...it's my primary entertainment. $45 is a great investment too...so much so that I bought a few ships with real money so that I can enjoy the game even more. The community is awesome too.

This game will never make it because progress is too slow, by the time something gets finished something else is outdated and needs to get updated again. Stuck in a vicious circle of incompletion until they run out of money.

Crash, loose inventory, ship fail to spawn and lots of lag. Same as always. My grandkids are going to enjoy this game in 15-20 years. My $240 ship will be worth tens of thousands with inflation... They can sell my account and pay for college.

Still haven't fixed the absolutely horrid fps and optimization. Can play every modern game at 60 fps but star citizen I still get 10 fps in that stupid bed. People supporting this game are ones that have so much money they don't know what to do with it. Those are the only people capable of running this game because they spend tons of money on a computer that can run this trash. They should of been focusing on making sure their players can actually PLAY the game rather than coming out with ships and charging insane amounts of money for just that, pixels.
Its a joke and the ones who are still constantly supporting them only feed into the mentality of the developers thinking this is all okay. It isn't, and all of you are being scammed like never before. This game has made accumulated more money than most popular mainstream games and it still runs HORRIBLE, after how many years? I don't think I have ever heard of or seen a bigger joke in gaming history, and the most hilarious part is they are pulling the wool over most of your eyes just like 343 did with Halo Infinite and its "free to play" multiplayer.

In other words it's like every other MMO with fed-ex missions, find missions, and kill em missions. No crafting, no building your own ships and you are stuck with the ship you bought for real $$ unless you want to shell out more real $$ to get another ship. They received 300 million dollars in funding and this is the crap they came up with? A pay to win?

  • @kl0wnkiller912

Well, it looks cool... until you fall down an elevator shaft.... get shot up by some idiot for no reason.... get something stuck to you that you cannot get rid of.... Try to do a mission only to have someone steal your ship.... but it looks cool... $45 wasted. How long does an "Alpha" stay that way? Maybe I'll try back in a few years.

what kinda pc specs is needed to run this?. Ive been really tempted to get into SC for a few years now. I was subscribed to SC wayback before it was playable. Would love to get into mining/exploration, onlything that is holding me back is the resets. But if its not that often now im thinking i should give it a go soon. Also, is it playable with mouse and keyboard?, or is joysticks needed?
