      Speaking as a white person, it makes sense to me. White Americans declared their independence in July 4, 1776 and ALL Americans became free on Juneteenth 1865. Making those freedoms real is still a work in progress but the landmark dates mean something.

      Juneteenth is a local, made up holiday. However, worth recognizing the day Republicans freed blacks from Democrats.
      Juneteenth would never have happened were it not for July 4.

    • @dontaylor7315
      @dontaylor7315 Год назад +5

      @@MajorHenryL."Made up local holiday?" Ha! Where I'm from, Texas history used to be a required subject in public schools (still is, I imagine). In the late 50s we learned all about Juneteenth in junior high and our textbooks weren't even new. It's not Texas's fault the rest of the country is so parochial it thought the Emancipation Proclamation ended slavery and didn't learn better till a century and a half too late.
      "Juneteenth would never have happened were it not for July 4?" True: Abolition would have occurred SOONER without American independence because CIVILIZATION, including the Brits, ended slavery BEFORE the US did.
      "Republicans freed blacks from Democrats?" Yep, and those Republicans went on to fight against racial integration and civil rights in the 1950s and '60s, and the last of those Dixiecrats became Republicans under Nixon's Southern Strategy in the '70s.
      Btw you're barking up the wrong tree with that taunt about Dems. I've never been one. Even voted for Nixon in '68 but got over it long before he ran for re-election. Never did consider becoming a Dem though, they're too far right.
      EDIT 6/26/2023: It's been a state holiday in Texas since 1938 (by proclamation - and then by legislation in1979). Since then almost every state formally recognized it over the years, one way or another, before Biden followed up with national recognition in 2021.

    I've been saying this for a long time.
    When people 'throw in' together by buying, building, & supporting each other you come out with a stronger, more cohesive community that can move mountains. If you don't like what others are doing or have to offer, 'throw in' together & make your own; don't depend on others to give you what you want or need.
    A perfect example of this system is the Amish communities; they rely as little as possible on the outside communities. Amongst themselves, they can attain many things because they are a cohesive community. If one person doesn't have the capabilities to get something done, they barter with another community member to get it taken care of.
