FYI google's updated instructions for step 2: "To upload a 180° or 360° video file, you'll need to modify the file with an app like Adobe Premiere (2019 or higher) or script before uploading. Learn more about uploading 360° or for 180° ." unbiased my a$$
This needs to be updated. The "help" page no longer tries to help you and simply tells you to fix it on your own...
I am uploading directly using iphone insta360 app. Why it’s not injecting it. Why do I have to go through all this? Why insta360 does it automatically? Insta360 app saves it on phone then ask you to upload to RUclips.

Get this. I did all that. Uploaded the injected vid. Worked all good as a 360 vid. THEN after about an hour, youtube reverted it back to normal video.

But what about Mobile devices ? I recorded 360 on my Insta 1x2 and downloaded it onto my Insta mobile app. So how do I inject the 360 Metadata into that video on my mobile ? Tyvm

I edited an Insta360 video in Davinci Resolve and exported it.
Usually when i open a 360 video in VLC, i can drag around, so VLC recognizes it.
But the exported video did not work.
So i followed your instructions by injecting the MetaData and exported the file.
Then i double clicked AND: i thought that it did not work.
Simply because it was super-zoomed in and i thought that my original file was cropped.
But it wasn't !
All i had to do, is to zoom out with my mousesheel within VLC and then everything works fine.

I'm working through all of your editing videos as I'm new to the 360 technique. I have two questions: 1. If I'm using my Insta360 Air and using the app on my phone, do I still need to inject the metadata if I work with the video on my mac? 2. Is there a way to check in Photoshop or other editing softwares if the 360 metadata is in the video? Thanks!
+vera matson hi Vera, usually the best way to tell about this, is upload it and see whether it displays as 360. Also you can inject metadata anyway to be safe- it doesn't hurt the file 🙂

So is the insta360 Android app Facebook share broken when it comes to 360 videos? I would think that would inject metadata since it's a feature specifically made to share to Facebook. But it doesn't seem to work. The videos upload to Facebook as a flat video that won't even play at all.
Do you recommend a good way of being able to inject metadata using a phone?

Still doesn't work. My videos have all the metadata required and JUST RUclips doesn't see it (all other apps see it).
This doesn't work. The Spatial Media Metadata Injector destroys the video it causes the resolution in the video gets really up close and huge and it destroys any stitching done. it's a giant mess.
Just watched it again. Still laughing about mouse mode. Haha! Especially like from 16 sec.

Not one element of your video was reproduced on my screen. Web pages were different even using exactly the same address. Downloaded zip files opened to present blank pages. Sod it!
My 360 videos are not uploading at all. I've tried searching for the answer for why this is, but I keep getting answers explaining how to fix your 360 videos so that they show up as 360 instead of flat images. My issue is that the videos only get to 99% uploaded, then they fail. Any ideas? I don't think it's my internet connection because it isn't like the upload is getting stuck or taking a long time. It uploads fine, then stays at 99% every single time. I've let it stay at 99% for over a week once just to see if it was still trying to upload. I've tried on two different computers, several times, and the same thing happens. This only happens to me with 360 videos.

Hello Ben, thanks for sharing all these videos, they are awesome! I am new to 360 and Ive used insta360 to do the transitions (following your video, which is also great!) then injected metadata in it, and it works fine on youtube, but the video is super zoomed in, is there another software that I should be using to edit instead? thanks in advance!!!
yancychu glad you're enjoying them 👍👍👍 I know on Facebook there a '360 controls' where you can zoom in and out etc, did you not see any options when you uploaded to RUclips?
@@BenClaremont That isn't what he means Ben. The Spatial Media Metadata Injector does not keep any resolution the video was shot in. It also destroys all stitching. I will be making a video showing what is happening.

Excellent video. I am looking to do an intro on my video that is not on a 360 background. Is there a way to place the metadata on different parts of the video or is there a way to upload this intro on a 360 background? As you can see I am super new to this
Unfortunately not- you have to choose either 360 or non 360

I have the opposite problem. Whenever I try to watch 360 vids, they show up regularly. But I know it's not the videos because a) the comments aren't complaining and b) one of the vids I watched had just been in 360 mode. Any ideas?
This will be to do with the device you watch on as some devices aren’t 360 viewing friendly yet
every other application on my computer recognizes this video as 360 except RUclips. They should just give creators a checkbox that the video is 360 instead of making me manually inject the metadata. The program says "Failed to load" the video
Sometimes it needs an hour or two to process. If the metadata is Injected and the aspect ratio is correct, RUclips will recognize it as 360.
Welp, the videos I tried to inject from the god damned actiondirector pos, it just says "Failed to open video."

@@BenClaremont It just does simple stitching, required for a gear 360. Or can do it manually, and then have to inject the 360 metadata tags so things know it's 360 media..
tbh I forget what I was on about, between sorting my gear 360 and my ip camera, I've tested dozens of things to resolve issues and I forget now what the problem was.. as with everything, I've fixed most of it with scripts. because the default applications are too shit to work with stand alone..
Hi Ben, I got the samsung gear 360 camera and after stitching the video with action director I injected the metadata but there's an error " Parser Error on XML"...what seems to be the problem?

Sorry for being 3 years too late for this video - however, I injected the metadata using Spatial Media. Uploading the video to YT (Chrome and Firefox), but the video is only showing 180 in YT. I can pan left to right, but then the panning stops at about the 180 degree mark. No idea what I'm doing wrong. (Mousey Mouse crying here.)
Try uploading it unlisted and let it process for a few hours, it should definitely fix itself. If not check the settings you injected as it sounds like there could be VR180 metadata in there.

Yes it’s outdated, but what do you mean by a premiere ad?
@@BenClaremont Love your stuff, BTW. The choices are different. The app that is offered is an Adobe Premier tutorial. The info on Python is located under the "learn more about uploading 360". Minor point, but this stuff fries my brain. When you click through and read that page it is not very clear what to do.
What camera was that sample video you used, shot with?
Hey- it was shot with the Kodak PixPro SP360 4k (and poorly stitched incase you hadn't noticed :P)

I followed what you said and its still not working.
It will if you successfully injected metadata. Try again and make sure you don’t miss any steps. Also sometimes you need to tell Facebook or RUclips ‘this is a 360 video’ which can be done in the upload window.

Are you sure you did it correctly? That will definitely solve the problem. Otherwise perhaps you have aspect ratio or file format issues.

The solution for my android cellphone was to uninstall the new youtube version in the playstore. The youtube version that comes within the cellphone from factory reproduces just fine vr 360 videos.
It’s a desktop app

I try to use Samsung Gear 360 (2017). After uploading on RUclips with metadata I see strange black area in the splice. May be I must use some 360 video editor (not only insert metadata)?
Hey, is this at the top and bottom? If so, you've probably exported at the wrong aspect ratio. Make sure you export from Premiere at the same resolution as the footage.
Yes, sort of. I just take file from memory card, inject metadata and upload on RUclips. So it is necessary to use some video editor? Only uploading is not enough?
You need to stitch the footage first.. you can do that on mobile or computer. See my Gear 360 2017 review for more info!

It has been shot in 360, I can move it around until I download it to my ph or send it to someone.

Thanks. I think that this will be helpful for a lot of people but not for me. I was already using the metadata injection tool, but my videos are 360 degree 3D videos. If I don't also inject 3D metadata, then they don't even work on RUclips, but with 3D metadata, they display one image above the other of Facebook. RUclips is able to tell the difference and only displays the 3D format if you are using a VR headset, but Facebook does not seem to be able to do that. As you see here: ruclips.net/video/sIl17RwZpIc/видео.html works fine on RUclips but will not work on Facebook. Oooops... Solved my own problem. It was RUclips issue. The video ran OK on FB and RUclips but RUclips has started picking a 3D display thumbnail, so I worked around with a custom thumbnail.

Some phones/browsers don’t support 360 yet. It will always work on computer- this is a different issue to missing metadata.
@@BenClaremont but my phone supports 360. I can use 360 in the google cardboard app. It work just fine. But on yt I don't even get the cardboard pop-up
there is no checkbox on facebook and the injector wont work for facebook only youtube

It depends on the device you view it on.. my guess is you changed to a device that doesn’t support 360

Ben, when i edit videos and photos and upload for FB ou YTB, the quality becames much worst. Sometimes, even the photos appear with some errors on heads and stuff. How to fix? Thanks brow!
Hey- i've never heard of this.. my only guess is you might be exporting at low quality, and perhaps the wrong aspect ratio :/
LIFE in 360 Thank you for trying to help. How can i export with better quality? And how can i fix ratio? I took one photo yesterday and it was worst :(
HD Motovlog it might be best to leave your photos unedited.. that way at least you get the full resolution and proper aspect ratio that your camera is capable of 👍
LIFE in 360 there's got to be a way to get better resolution into RUclips. I shoot in 3k, but export to studio in 1080p. I then add the meta data and upload to RUclips. Quality degrades after the meta data as I tried without and compared. Any idea how to fix?
WaaProdUSA why do you export @ 1080p if it's 3k footage? That seems to be the problem right there. RUclips and Facebook always compress the hell out of videos, but uploading the highest resolution possible on RUclips helps combat this 👍

If you ask nicely I can give you a suggestion. It’s either A) the metadata wasn’t injected properly or B) the social network you’re uploading to needs time to process it as a 360 video.
Apologies, I was frustrated about it after all day of work. And it was RUclips.
How can it not be injected properly, if I used the method that youtube suggests? Well it technically still can, but every 20 test uploads, 2-3 go correctly and I don't change anything.
