    Good video, but I’d disagree on the eye-level height. Chest height tends to work best, especially when indoors, as most things that people will want to look at will be in the lower half of the frame and having the camera at a slightly lower level provides both a more pleasing perspective and also creates less convergence.

    • @BenClaremont
      @BenClaremont  5 лет назад +5

      I’d say it depends on the location as in my experience most venues have had more interesting details in the upper half than the lower half. For example this hotel. Also when viewing in a headset, chest height can feel a little too low.

    • @DaveBowman
      @DaveBowman 5 лет назад +6

      Ben Claremont Indeed it does. There isn’t one-size-fits-all and I think people should assess the environment and then decide what will work best. Hotel lobbies tend to have a lot of global interest, whereas bedrooms tend not to have much above chest height that wouldn’t otherwise have the viewer looking down. So different heights for different scenarios.

    • @vr-easy
      @vr-easy 5 лет назад +8

      In my fours years of doing virtual tours professionally I came to one rule of thumb: The more narrow a room the lower I get the shot. Most shots I take from ca. 1.60m height (I am 1.80m). Also the height depends on the nearest most important furniture - if there is a bed or armchairs and sofas I usually lower the shot to the height of the head of someone sitting on them.

      yeah rule one of architectural photography is in general to shoot interiors from 1,40-1,60m. Also from lower perspectives, verticals and higher objects look way dramatic than in reality. of course it is not a must and sometimes you want to avoid from some stuff like ugly table legs, dirty walls or just want a open sight but it doesn't happen to often and my rule is 1,40-1,60m.

    Another excellent tutorial, Ben!
    1) Can you create a video about using roundme.com for creating and hosting virtual tours? Is that you favorite website for hosting virtual tours?
    2) What are your thoughts on placing the 360 camera at the midpoint between the floor and ceiling to avoid keystoning? For example, if the ceiling were 20 feet from the floor, would placing the camera at 10 feet high be the optimal spot? Or would it be an unnatural looking viewpoint for a person who would normally view the room at their own height?
    Thanks!

    I am struggling with choosing between the V and the Z1. Totally new here and have really enjoyed your videos, so thank you. I am interested shooting for mostly virtual tours and many of the photographers around me do not do them. I am both a real estate agent and a carpenter and I, NOW, have many uses for this type of photography. Being the V is a older and a lot less and with this tough time it would be better financially. I'm not opposed to spending the 1k for the z1 but is it going to give me THAT much of a difference when shooting a VT especially since most of my clients will be viewing on mobile and desktop/laptops? I have zero editing experience and I'm looking for something I can use right out of the box and the RICOH software seems to be a good option until I become proficient with LR or another PP software. I just need something ASAP since they have suspended any and all showings/open houses. PLEASE HELP!!!

    Thanks to you I own the Z-1, I decided to go with Kuula, I have a Bushman monopod on the way and I downloaded the retouch app, so obviously your content is awesome. I wanted to ask about the retouch app. You have to download to your phone before you can edit correct? If so I'll just remove the monopod in LR.

    Hello Ben :)
    As usual an amazing video thank you so much!
    I saw your cameras review that you said what is worth buying and what it isn't.
    For right now the video is already few months old.
    Thanks to you I got the decision to buy 360 camera, so I wanted to ask you for right now if the price is the same of the two cameras which camera is worth to buy, the insta360 one X or GoPro Fusion.
    Hope to hear from you :)

    tnx guys, great tips. Just one question. How do you keep your cam "straight" on a monopod when the ground is not level ?
    I'm doing a lot of real estate tours with a theta V and from garden to driveway to floors they are rarely level ?
    (a little ball head maybe ?)
    Thanks.

      Most cameras should level the images automatically, including the V I’m pretty sure :)

    Hi Ben the top tips are great especially on verticals and lighting the concern there is the no of shots that will be sufficient for the virtual tours. Here you suggest one but in cupix virtual tour video more panos is advised. How many is enough for a walking tour of an hotel or office space .

    • @BenClaremont
      @BenClaremont  5 лет назад

      Hey thanks! In the Cupix video I only took more shots in order to generate a 3D model of the space, I wouldn’t advise taking that many for a client.

      Thanks Ben it does make business value. The shots with the Ricoh Theta Z1 are of high quality could the Ricoh Theta V do the same Job using the HDR and other manual options too ?

    • @d4b
      @d4b 5 лет назад

      Cupix needs many more panos to build their models, but you can then disable some/most of them for the actual published tour.

    This video is amazing and answers so many of my questions. Cannot wait to the course! I was wondering if I can ask one question. I want to shoot tours for business purposes so understand the need to have the images free from people. However if I just shoot for fun and publish on Facebook or Instagram do I need to worry about waivers etc?

    • @BenClaremont
      @BenClaremont  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks Kate! No not really, if the image isn’t used professionally then I don’t see why that would be an issue.

    Thank you for this.
    Can I ask you what software/platform do you use for Virtual Tours (preferred with Google Maps/Street View integration)?
    I try 3D Vista and it's amazing, but I like to hear your opinion.
    Regards and keep healthy.

    Ben,
    Since I sold my Thetas S and V, I am just taking my 360º with a DSLR rig. The images are great but with a lot of work after the pics. I am thinking to buy a one shot 360 again. I love the professional look and easy setup of Ricoh app but I would like to have the video features as well, as the QooCam but not sure of its workflow with my mac and its app. Would you please give me that great, wonderful advice?

      @@BenClaremont I saw. It was great, as ever. I am still afraid of the Qookam as it doesn't have the simplicity and easy to use way as the Theta. The problem, is the lack of video in the Z. Thanks for your reply!

    I always take 2 shots of each pano where I stand in two different spots. I bring them into photoshop on two layers and mask out myself so there is no on in the image.

      Me too, slightly more pos-production but a lot quicker than having to hide each time. Pretty essential too if doing a big wide open space like a large garden with nothing to hide behind..

    If you are shooting a bathroom with a mirror and you can not move left or right to make it work, lower the camera to just below the counter top.

      To be honest I wouldn’t recommend this as it turns the view into a child’s perspective, which doesn’t really help sell the location.
