To anyone watching this, DO NOT USE the sata to 6/8pin adapters, sata only carry 25w and these GPU's can pull upto 75w under load, they WILL burn out the adapter and possibly the entire cable. you can see clearly that these cards were working just fine and without issue on 365 watts. That "recommended" number is exactly that. They say that to ensure you wont run into any issues AT ALL.
Dell power supplies are rated continuous, unlike run of the mill ATX PSU's, so don't take that 365W into consideration as the limitation because it is not. He ran into issues using a SATA adapter.. SATA power carries 54W max over a single connector, and the slot provides 75w, so 129W isn't enough ( RX 580 runs 185-225w TDP depending on brand/ clocks ).. However the higher end Dell Precisions like the 3620 have a 365w power supply with a 6 pin PCIE power connector and the correct 8 pin/ 4 pin mobo power connector.. The 4th gen processor Optiplex use power off the motherboard to power SATA, so the 3620 being arranged in the same way would be a drop in replacement.. 6 pin to 8 pin PCIE adapters are perfectly acceptable. However unless it's cheap, it makes little sense. A usable ATX 500w PSU is in the $30-40 range... Nice vid. Really surprised in the uplift the 580 gets over the gtx 970 (the GPU I used in two recent builds). Thanks for the idea of just buying a Dell power supply with more power rather than getting adapters for standard power supplies. Have you found Dell power supplies with higher wattage so you wouldn't have to underclock the rx580 ?
This one I used in the video was the only one I could find so far but there may be more out there. For the price though, youd be better off getting a cheap 500w psu and just using that with an adapter for the optiplex motherboard.
nope! you just have to make sure you get an adapter for the 24 pin psu cable to be able to work in an optiplex because they have a proprietary pin out.

you'll definitely have to mod the case to make it fit
I have the same pc with i5 3570 and total power 275w and i order amd rx 580 8gb is it gone a work pls answer me???
You will need to underclock the card like I did if it has a factory OC. Even then, youre probably pushing it with that 275w psu. The 290w I used in the video was barely enough. If I was you, Id replace the power supply!
RA Visuals But is it gone a fit 580 8gb ?
i know im a bit late but im wondering what kind of power supplies would be compatible with some of the optiplex systems
None of aftermarket psu has 8 pins as much as i know
You would need an 24 pin to 8 pin adapter to work
Where’s The Manscaped Link Guy? 😳
haha don't need a link! just head over to their website and use the code!
Have the parts coming in right now
will the hp rx460 work with aa dell 3010?
Do I have to do any cutting to it for it to work?
For the price though, youd be better off getting a cheap 500w psu and just using that with an adapter for the optiplex motherboard.
i took out my hdd cage can i pop a 8gb fxf rx 570 in with a 500watt psu
yes you can!
@@RAVisuals i had some troubles with it hiting the ram tabs but i mange to stuff it in hopefully its fine.👍 runs good upgraded from a 4gb rx 550
So if I get a 500 watt power supply or 430 watt with rx 580 and a dell optiplex will I still have problems or not
nope! you just have to make sure you get an adapter for the 24 pin psu cable to be able to work in an optiplex because they have a proprietary pin out.
Does it work with a i5 Dell optiplex 7010 tower
