I think this is beautiful but I think you should also consider making one of the rooms up stairs your master ESPECIALLY if you plan for one of those rooms to be a nursery. This downstairs room really looks like an office space to me and would be perfect for Romeo’s business especially being so close to the washer and dryer. It seems like the layout is funky and you could have a much more designed, cozy, and comfortable space upstairs! Also, when you have guests you could have your own sides of the house to keep privacy. I think a beautiful bench seating built in around the windows with shelves on either side of the windows would look beautiful for an office. Similar to what you built at the cottage! You always make things look beautiful, but as a mom, my suggestion would be to get closer to your future baby!❤
Omg I've been thinking this exact thing since the tour, I kept saying the nursery is so far away . Either way no matter what she decides it will be amazing
Lol masters are fine on the first floor even with babies. Most people co sleep till the baby or toddler sleep through the night and no one going up and down stairs just cause the master is on the first floor. 🙃
Flicking the lamp light switch was like the Friends episode when Phoebe blinks each time Monica is in the other apartment with the switch, trying to figure what it connects to… ☺️
i'm so surprised that you guys chose this to be your bedroom and not one of the rooms upstairs, especially for long term with having kids! i feel like this room would make more sense as romeo's office (as a lot of others have said too) obviously we wouldn't truly know since we've never physically been in the space lol but the room does look beautiful regardless!! i love your style so much and i can't wait to see how you decorate the rest of the house!! and i really can't wait to see more progress at the cottage!!!
Agree. I think they like the skylight? The laundry is also down there but i think she said it may get relocated. There are just too many doors going on. They may just be in there temporarily?
Romeo’s office is more like a shipping area with shelves, clothes racks and boxes. They probably don’t want it visible from the living room. Maybe they will move it once they need a nearby nursery though.
I find it odd too, especially as the bedroom is so easily visible from the living room, and there's no privacy. It's almost like a cramped apartment. It would be much better to use it as a study, or even a dining room.
For your cabinets that were painted with chalk paint you can use wax that is made specifically for finishing chalk paint. It gives it a gentle shine and gives it a durable finish.
Yes! And the current color is so pretty in there. I know she mentioned the hardware being black in a way that indicated she might not like it, but I think it's a good choice - a brighter metal would stand out too much, I think. I like that the pulls are dark and detailed but just blend in with the piece.
I was thinking the same thing! I have had a good experience with chalk paint and then using wax over my pieces. The finish is a soft shine but plenty durable.
I know it could be a while away but do you think that when you do start a family that you’d swap your bedroom for one upstairs so that it would be closer to the nursery, so when baby does eventually go into their own room you’re not running up and down stairs all night 😅 xx
Number 1. That rm down stairs was not meant to be a bed room, it was definitely a office space, you could actually put a sleeper sofa in there for when guests stay over, hence the bathroom is there for when you have company over. I would not want people going in and out of my bedroom to use the bathroom.
Agree, I think it would make more sense to have all bedrooms upstairs and Romeo can have that room as his office, close to laundry. I could not sleep in a room with all those doors...
I think the bedroom will work much better upstairs, specially once you have children…I think this should be for now Romeo’s office maybe, and in the future, a play room. Hopefully, since you’re not starting renovations yet, this will give you time to live the house and think about the best layout. 😊 The decoration is wonderful though ❤
I’m so happy for you both. I love following along this journey with you. Congratulations! I still feel that huge bedroom upstairs should be the master, with the potential to breakdown the walls and make that bathroom and ensuite and this bedroom downstairs either Romeo’s room or ??? Someone in your past video explains it very well. Either way, I’m here for the ride. ♥️
Thank you for saying this! It stresses me out and I don't know why? That beautiful big bedroom should be the master, it's more private when you have guests over. When you start a family the kids room would be beside. Romeo can have that room downstairs and can organize his clothes in that big closet, the washer is right there for him and guests can stay in there when the over and guests would use that washroom and not the upstairs ones. The built in in that big bedroom is so nice and so are the big windows. The windows in the current bedroom remind me of a basement. I really hope you switch it!
I agree. Upstairs should be the master. Downstairs should be a office / guest room. I would also some day this year or next year add on another bedroom and small bathroom to the house for future children, downstairs, if there is room.
The louvered closet in laundry area would be great place to store collapsible step ladder to reach storage over washer/dryer. You should find a place upstairs as well for another step ladder. I have 2 story home & always need to reach things on top shelves somewhere!
I agree with where you made the bedroom. I would’ve chosen downstairs because all the living quarters is downstairs and it’s easier to take Kinsley out. She looks great on your bed and is the sweetest . You can always move upstairs at a later date when needed. I love the simplicity of your decor. We also have light switches in our house that we cannot use. 🤷♀️ Congratulations on the purchase of your new home! 🫶 It’s such a blessing. 🥰 Feb 1, 2023 Great Podcast!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Okay now I get the comments on the last video. That downstairs bedroom is 100% a guest room or office. I could never envision that as a master. The master is for sure the larger room upstairs. Also I know upstairs room is for your mom but downstairs is more practical for her. As my mom got older her guest room was downstairs. This is because of mobility issues. This may also be the reason the previous homeowners made the downstairs bedroom a main/master bedroom. You have worked so hard and you are so humble but you deserve that upstairs room as your master bedroom.
The great thing about a home and how you are taking your time decorating is that you can change. Change your mind about a room function, colors, renovations. I agree that I think you’ve chosen a weird room for the primary especially since it’s right off the living room. In addition, I’m a door closed kind of person, doors, drawers, cabinets, hampers, etc need to be closed or I just feel a little anxious. It’s a an oddity of mine.
Puhlleeaase do a video on hanging art/mirrors. When I've measured to hang pieces side by side, one over the other or a certain height- they are uneven. Is there a typical height of where or how high it should hang. Also any and all, tips and tricks, or devices The struggle is real-lol 😩 Thank you💛
As for the switches, make sure the lamp is on when you plug it into the socket that you think is dead. Then try the switches that don’t work for anything else. Hopefully that’s the solution.
I suggest to switch your bed to the chest/tv wall. It affords a little more privacy and the dresser would look great under the windows from the living room. It would also give a better pathway to the laundry room
I wouldn’t put master there but would use it as office room due to it being right next to lounge and open window doors. Also I wouldn’t want a laundry in my bedroom. Now I understand why everyone commented that it should be Romeos office. Anyway it’s just my personal opinion, very happy for you on your house!
I knew you would waste no time getting settled into your home! Glad things are a little slower! Everything looks great! As usual and using what you already have is great! PS I noticed Kinsley is staying very close by at all times! ☺️
Might seem like a crazy idea, but what if you hang the rug you currently have at the foot of your bed, on the wall directly behind your bed, a sort of headboard until you get the new bed. It would cushion the wall a bit and I think it would look very cool.
The moody one your mom painted, it's in a vintage over my lime wash fireplace right now at the moment while I watch this video I'm staring at the same thing!!!!❤
I love all the well meaning advice being given. I personally am team upstairs for the primary. But they are not use to this amount of space yet especially coming from a smaller home. She is making it how she knows. In time she will learn and when life changes she will adjust and we will get more content as a result. You do you MaCenna.
No trolling here, but it sure sounded to me like that's what's you were doing. Just a wee bit condescending to say she doesn't know any better and she'll learn that your way is better. You say she's not used to living in a large space - have you seen her parents' home? Pretty sure she understands big spaces.
I have no idea what you're talking about! I am not harassing anyone, you included. First, you haven't been nice. Second, I have only responded to YOUR comments addressed to ME! So good luck with that. Just walk away / there's no reason to fight. 🙄
Make sure you try both outlets in that area! When I moved into my home I had switches that didn't work, but I found that I had to plug things into the bottom spot of the outlet haha! Electrical is so strange sometimes!
Yes! And try all wall switches in the room. Sometimes its the switch on the other side of the room by an entrance, that turns on a particular outlet or two outlets and sometimes you need to turn off both lamps, so they are in sync and will turn on. Try multiple things before calling an electrician. I had this same issue in a bedroom on either side of the bed and finally solved it.
This is gorgeous Macenna !!! It's been about 3 years since Ive been following you. You've been an inspiration for me ! I recently shifted into a new apartment and everything has been haywire but your videos give me inspiration.. I love your style and in so happy to see the progress in your channel lots of love.. Siyona! 💓
Looks so cozy now, but would really consider moving the primary bedroom and bathroom upstairs. That way you make full use of the house rather than the upper floor risking being kind of separate/ unused as the main living areas of the house are all downstairs.
I always feel so sad when your videos end! I love them and look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, Thurs and Sunday! Love everything you’re doing Macenna. 😊
A lot of places have switch outlets. If you plug it in and turn it on and it doesn’t come on, try flipping the switch. If it comes on after you flip the switch, that’s the switch outlet. If it doesn’t come on, dead outlet. Another way to figure out if they are switch outlets is to turn it on and go around and plug the lamp into all the outlets. If it turns on when you plug it in then it isn’t the switch outlet. Make sure the switch is off though when you do it.
I have switched electric outlets but only the top plug is linked to the switch and the bottom plug is constant. Just a thought and worth checking. I did the same with my outdoor outlets…. Half and half.
Just by using what you have You've made a lovely place. You may find in the future when you have children you want to be on the same floor though. You will have lots that you're goto change the longer your there.
I hope you don't mind a comment?! The doors leading to the laundry room are an ideal frame for a claw-foot bath! In the long-term demo, my vote would be to swap the laundry and bathroom around, as you have the plumbing already there to make the swap around easy. Love this video, though; it's great to see the repurposing.
I love bright white spaces but I think you are SO right about painting the bedroom a darker colour - I think you could make that look amazing and cozy!!
I have waited all week for MaCenna video!!!!!!! I am loving the new home series👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. You MaCenna are my inspiration for helping me decorate my home. Thank you so much for sharing the journey and I loved your podcast and excited to see the one with Mom❤
Please consider relocating your Primary Bedroom to the upstairs which would certainly provide you more privacy and it will be a plus when you have children. It will also be much more of a sanctuary than having it right next to your living room. The downstairs area would be better suited for an office and an area that can be an extension of your daily living space and you could decrease the size of the downstairs bathroom for visiting guests while giving you extended space for living areas.
The new home is beautiful, but I’m ready to go back to the cottage. Love what you were doing there. This one is just too many white walls everyone and stale. The cottage has so much cozy charm. Hope you go back soon.
It’s looking so good! The house has so much character! Be careful adding paintings to the bathroom though, the humidity from showering might damage them over time.
I really enjoy watching you decorate with things you already own. It's helpful for those of us who can't run out and shop the antique store every time we need an update. The area rug you put in the bedroom is a great choice, and it beautifully picks up the palette of the art.
Did you consider having one of the upstairs bedrooms as your primary suite ? I love the light you have upstairs and with your laundry through there and windows in the door feels like your bedroom would make a better workspace. Plus if you have a nursery up there so much more practical to be next door ?
Love how you've made what you have work! Also in love with those lamps. I'm so excited to see how you continue to transform your space. Lots of love ❤️
I think what you're considering to be a master bedroom might actually be a sunroom that was converted into a bedroom for someone elderly. The TV and proximity to bathroom and laundry plus the skylights and brick floor really give those clues. Traditionally, one would never be able to look into a bedroom from the living room. As you're getting used to your new space, it's a comfortable start. But I think you'll want to change it upstairs soon. Certainly when you have kids.
I'm surprised you chose the downstairs room as your primary bedroom. Wouldn't upstairs give more privacy? and makes sense to turn the downstairs into an office space as an extension of your living room. It would bother me so much that one could look into my bedroom from the living room. And would be a lot easier to have the bedroom upstairs if you want children in the future.
I think this is beautiful but I think you should also consider making one of the rooms up stairs your master ESPECIALLY if you plan for one of those rooms to be a nursery. Definitely agree. So many reasons that room should not be the primary bedroom.
Yup. The master will be moved upstairs as soon as baby comes. No mother can be running up and down 3-5 times in the night to feed and comfort baby.
Lol masters are fine on the first floor even with babies. Most people co sleep till the baby or toddler sleep through the night and no one going up and down stairs just cause the master is on the first floor. 🙃
Primary bedroom is great right where it is..
Kinsley is the best accessory in the bedroom. 🐶🥰

That’s pretty much a guess room. Really beautiful ❤
I love watching how you put things together. It gives me so much inspiration ♥️
Kinsley is the best decor you can ever have!!!
Things are coming together so beautifully.
So cute kinsley matches the bedroom ☺💞🐶💫
It’s looking so good! The house has so much character! Be careful adding paintings to the bathroom though, the humidity from showering might damage them over time.
Ur baby is the cutest little doggie ever!!!!❤
Sometimes less is more. And Kinsley makes the setup come together even more. Lol. It Looks real nice.
I really enjoy watching you decorate with things you already own. It's helpful for those of us who can't run out and shop the antique store every time we need an update. The area rug you put in the bedroom is a great choice, and it beautifully picks up the palette of the art.
I love what you’re doing with her new home. ❤
Did you consider having one of the upstairs bedrooms as your primary suite ? I love the light you have upstairs and with your laundry through there and windows in the door feels like your bedroom would make a better workspace. Plus if you have a nursery up there so much more practical to be next door ?
Your bedroom and bathroom is looking beautiful. 👍🥰
love watching you decorate !!! my favorite thing.
Kinsley is always so enthusiastic about whatever it is you’re doing. “We’re unplugging cable, I got you mom! Just standing still…I’m all over it!”
There are doors on the bedroom if they have company.
i love that room for the primary especially with the skylights :)
Me too I would use as a guest bdrm slash office
@@Lucinda_Jackson The doors are glass

Yes, they are. And she has said she will put curtains on them. I have done the same with doors exactly like hers.
Try the sideways pitcher in the bathroom! I can see this lovely coquette/victorian vision to lean into the white, blue, and the glass
So the guests would have to go through their bedroom to get to the bathroom on the main floor?
Honestly so refreshing to see a RUclipsr with a realistic makeup drawer
It is looking more like “your” house every day. Beautiful spaces. ❤ I get the feeling Kinsley has aspirations to be a boudoir model!😂
